Found this very interesting, obviously the odds avry from site to site, bookies to bookies, but nonetheless, everywhere I have turned England are second favourites for the World Cup behind Australia, don't know what our One Day team has done to deserve such optimism!

Australia 2/1
England 5/1
Pakistan 5/1
India 6/1
South Africa 6/1
West Indies 10/1
New Zealand 10/1
Sri Lanka 12/1
Zimbabwe 250/1
Bangladesh 400/1
Kenya 500/1
Canada 1000/1
Ireland 1000/1
Scotland 1000/1
Holland 1000/1
Bermuda 1500/1

England should be 7th out of 8 at best!
Bookies seem as bad as selectors at this mixing-up of the game-forms!

The bookmakers are merely covering their backsides due to the amount of money obviously being placed on England by English fans seeing their side through unrealistically tinted glasses. Nowt to do with owt else.

Best Odds available...

Australia 3.50 (Totesport)
England 7.00 (Betfred)
Pakistan 7.90 (Pinnacle)
South Africa 8.00 (Blue Square)
India 9.00 (BetDirect)
New Zealand 10.00 (Bet365)
West Indies 13.00 (Skybet)
Sri Lanka 17.00 (Skybet)
Zimbabwe 251.00 (Total Bet)
Kenya 501.00 (Betfred)
Bangladesh 501.00 (Coral)
Holland 1001.00 (Victor Chandler)
Scotland 1501.00 (Total Bet)
Ireland 1501.00 (Stan James)
Canada 1501.00 (Stan James)
Bermuda 2001.00 (Paddy Power)

It's a genius's game when you win and a fool's game when you lose. Still, England aren't even worth an optimistic flutter at that price. :@

It's a fool's game when you win because then you just stick your winnings onto something else until you lose.

Scotland beat Warwickshire this season....surely they have more of a chance than Ireland etc.?

I don't gamble often, when I do and win I don't regamble the money, I get very, very, very, very drunk

Some of them odds seem a bit strange, are the bookies with shorter odds for Zimbabwe than Bangladesh (who are the same as Kenya?) hoping that the Flowers, Taibu and Streak all return before 2007?

If so, can anyone find the odds of Mugabe's regime being toppled by February 2007?

More generalising I see 8-)
Not really - did I say that is what invariably happens?
It's a pretty well-known fact, though, that that's where problems with gambling come from, and anyone who even indulges is risking the slippery-slope for me, and as such I'm only ever going near the stuff of occasions (such as £1.50 for the possibility of £125,000,000)

Oh, I don't doubt that - but some are not so sensible (?!) as you.

 Well I don't know about sensible but I guess I'd rather wake up with empty pockets and a headache, than skint because it all went in the slots - I know what you mean about putting it all back, because my mates are gamblers of the highest order, win £50 on the fruits and then put it into another machine  it perplexes me!
