West Indies Thread

If Scotland have a thread then most certainly the West Inides deserve one.

O0O, Liam does not wish to make the thing after all...
Glad I left it to a West Indian, tho.

wat do u think are kelly's chances of making the wc squad

roseboy64 06-04-2006 05:23 PM

Slim I'd say currently but you never know with the West Indies.

Mr Mxyzptlk 06-04-2006 05:34 PM

Is it just your Jamaican bias or are you seriously that much out of the loop?
Richard Kelly will almost certainly be in the World Cup squad next year. Currently he may even be poised to play against Zimbabwe this year.

He's an excellent shot for the World Cup squad.

roseboy64 06-04-2006 05:44 PM

That's why I said you never know. No need to bring bias into it. He's not played a ODI yet but if he does and does well as he should then he'll be there I'd expect.

Mr Mxyzptlk 06-04-2006 09:03 PM

lol

You're so easily baited. I'm quite certain Richard Kelly will get capped before the World Cup, so I'd definitely say his chances are greater than "slim".

roseboy64 09-04-2006 05:18 PM

I know that territorial bias is still present in the WI so just making sure it's known I don't subscribe to that line of thought. He's not played a game yet so it'd be very foolish to give him more than a slim rating although I do expect him to get capped soon.

He's had success for the 'A' team and for Trinidad and Tobago and it seems very clear that the WI want him playing international cricket as soon as possible. From all reports he almost went to New Zealand.

I don't see how he can be given a slim chance considering all that. This, especially since Munaf Patel is considered to have more than just a slim chance of making the Indian WC squad by some.

Richard Kelly has a good chance of making the World Cup squad regardless of him not yet playing for the West Indies.

Question: Do you think that Darren Sammy or Dave Bernard jr. are better chances for the World Cup squad than Richard Kelly?

roseboy64 09-04-2006 09:28 PM

Based on selections I'd say Sammy and Kelly are on par. Bernard has no chance.

Yet Sammy has played for the West Indies already. How can Kelly be on par with him then? Both have potential and I assure you that Kelly is regarded much higher than Sammy at this stage.

roseboy64 10-04-2006 08:17 PM

Which is why they're on par. Sammy's experience is the only thing that put him on equal standing with Kelly as the latter is clearly the more talented and is also younger.

Which shows that, even in your estimation, Richard Kelly is a very big prospect. Darren Sammy has been a West Indies ODI prospect for a good 2 years now. That you consider Richard Kelly to be on par with him without any experience with the West Indies team, it says something.

That said, I think you're in a very clear minority when it comes to considering Darren Sammy on par with Richard Kelly in likelihood of future West Indies selection.

Also, Kelly is a whopping 51 days younger than the 22-year-old Sammy.

roseboy64 10-04-2006 09:40 PM

Oh whoops. Confused him with Deighton Butler.
