Bangladesh Thread

After Richard's kind invite, I once again am left fighting the corner for a country I know nothing about...

I see there are a few more Bangladeshis on the forum now, so maybe there will be a bit more conversation. If not, well, that's what Neil and Hakon are for.

My Bangladesh XI for WC2007:

1 Javed Omar
2 Shahriar Nafees
3 Rajin Saleh OR Alok Kapali/Manjural Islam Rana (batting at 7)
4 Habibul Bashar
5 Mohammad Ashraful
6 Aftab Ahmed
7 Khaled Mashud+
8 Mohammad Rafique
9 Mashrafe Mortaza
10 Shahadat Hossain
11 Syed Rasel

Shahadat Hossain
Seriously... what is it about Bangladesh that really needs discussing?

Total and utter nonsense.
They were supposedly improving every game 2 years ago, too - and a fat lot came of that.

Funny how you're the only one who can't see it, and that's because you don't want to see it.

There's no doubt that Bangladesh are improving. They're just not going to become competitive in every game over night.

Even if you think they aren't improving, what's the point in bringing it up in every thread about Bangladesh. Some people are actually interested in Bangladeshi cricket and don't really need you telling them how little you think of their team.

Immediate trouble areas:

Number three
Number ten
(and number eight should be after the World Cup - Rafique's nearing 40 now, isn't he?)

Yeah, Shahadat's a bit wild, but that will definatly be useful vs Bermuda and hopefully he will rattle India, Sri Lanka (as he has done in the Tests).

Ideally Habibul would bat three, but I feel he would be better used as the middle order lynchpin.

When Rafique retires (probably after World Cup) it will probably be time Enamul Haque jr steps up, with support from Rana. When Saqibul is fully blooded he'd make an ideal number three coming in after Javed and Shahriar, and provide left-arm spin.

No, I just don't jump to conclusions like most people do and assume that 5 or 6 games means much.

Well, England weren't acknowledged as a true Test force before the Ashes (Nonsense, you say, but the exact same thing happened before 2001, and they were wiped off the park).

It only took 5 (realistically 4) matches and suddenly England is 'easily' the second best Test side in the world. So, yes, 5 or 6 games do mean much.

You what?

The 5 consecutive Test series wins including dominating SA in SA (the only side apart from Australia to win in SA since readmittance) weren't enough to make England a true Test force?

Like I said, it was what was claimed before the 2001 Ashes as well. And, to a lesser extent, before the 2002-3 Ashes as well

How many players make up a World Cup squad? It was 15 last time so I'll run with that

1. Shahriah Nafees
2. Rajin Saleh
3. Aftab Ahmed
4. Habibul Bashar
5. Mohammad Ashraful
6. Alok Kapali
7. Khaled Mashud
8. Mohammad Rafique
9. Manjural Islam Rana
10. Mashrafe Mortaza
11. Syed Rasel
-------------------------------
12. Tushar Imran
13. Javed Omar
14. Mushfiqur Rahim
15. Shahadat Hossain

Maybe a bit foolish to go into the tournament with only three specialist seamers in the Windies but Mashrafe and Rasel are the only quicks in the country who deserve to be there on current form. Aftab first change with the two spinners bowling the overs in the middle with Alok and Ashraful there if needs be. Depth in the batting with Rana coming in at 9 to limit the damage caused by a collapse.

Shahadat Hossain looked pretty impressive in the test matches against aussies, ithought he bowled better than Mushrafe Mortaza, maybe this ODI series against aussies will tell us a bit more about the fast bowlers..
