Bangladesh Thread

After Richard's kind invite, I once again am left fighting the corner for a country I know nothing about...

I see there are a few more Bangladeshis on the forum now, so maybe there will be a bit more conversation. If not, well, that's what Neil and Hakon are for.

My Bangladesh XI for WC2007:

1 Javed Omar
2 Shahriar Nafees
3 Rajin Saleh OR Alok Kapali/Manjural Islam Rana (batting at 7)
4 Habibul Bashar
5 Mohammad Ashraful
6 Aftab Ahmed
7 Khaled Mashud+
8 Mohammad Rafique
9 Mashrafe Mortaza
10 Shahadat Hossain
11 Syed Rasel

Seriously... what is it about Bangladesh that really needs discussing?

If crappy Holland deserve a thread, Bangladesh does.

Try the fact that they're improving every time they step on the field.

Total and utter nonsense.
They were supposedly improving every game 2 years ago, too - and a fat lot came of that.

Funny how you're the only one who can't see it, and that's because you don't want to see it.

There's no doubt that Bangladesh are improving. They're just not going to become competitive in every game over night.

Even if you think they aren't improving, what's the point in bringing it up in every thread about Bangladesh. Some people are actually interested in Bangladeshi cricket and don't really need you telling them how little you think of their team.

Immediate trouble areas:

Number three
Number ten
(and number eight should be after the World Cup - Rafique's nearing 40 now, isn't he?)

Yeah, Shahadat's a bit wild, but that will definatly be useful vs Bermuda and hopefully he will rattle India, Sri Lanka (as he has done in the Tests).

Ideally Habibul would bat three, but I feel he would be better used as the middle order lynchpin.

When Rafique retires (probably after World Cup) it will probably be time Enamul Haque jr steps up, with support from Rana. When Saqibul is fully blooded he'd make an ideal number three coming in after Javed and Shahriar, and provide left-arm spin.

No, I just don't jump to conclusions like most people do and assume that 5 or 6 games means much.

5 or 6 games means the Ashes, though.

Well, England weren't acknowledged as a true Test force before the Ashes (Nonsense, you say, but the exact same thing happened before 2001, and they were wiped off the park).

It only took 5 (realistically 4) matches and suddenly England is 'easily' the second best Test side in the world. So, yes, 5 or 6 games do mean much.
