It wasn`t like you just mis-typed a few letters. It was a completely different word.
It was, but most people would realise I'd not accuse Collingwood of being a poor fielder.

In the post before you said he was good batsman, said he didn't get the recognition he deserved and compared him to a test level cricketer....
He did play for England....although only as a fielder
He didn't play for England, playing is being picked in the starting XI.
Ben Spendlove was a sub-fielder, too, and he took a very good catch.
If a sub-fielder "played" for England half the professional cricketers in the country would've played for England.
Penney was a good batsman, but he wasn't a Test or ODI-class batsman and didn't play them.

I'd think of playing as having a part in the game...as in he put on an England shirt and played cricket for awhile....
he's not got a number or anything, he's not got a test cap....but he's still played for England

Therefore so have half the professional cricketers in the country, so many have been Test twelfth-men (or fourteenth-man or whatever).
If you wish to think like that, that's up to you - but for me, playing is being picked in the XI (or, briefly in ODIs, the XII).

I don't always do sense-of-humours.
Especially when it comes to putting down rubbish cricketers.

But he doesn't take the place of a better batsman or a better bowler, so it's hardly the same.
