Unfair Play!!

Oh man ! I can't believe this guy is let to blantantly chuck the ball.. I recorded the game and a bunch of was were specifically watching Akhtar for his action and boy, did he chuck.. Just look at the delivery that sachin got out on in slow slow motion..his elbows bend and he chucks..period !! I wonder what these 3rd umpires and match referees do ?

They watch the game and look carefully at dubious actions. Since there was no report of chucking to the match referee (which is supposed to happen immediately), he doesn't chuck according to them. According to the University of Western Australia he doesn't chuck and to anyone who's watched him bowl with an unbiased eye, he doesn't chuck.

Zaheer Khan has a similar (but not as pronounced) hyper-extension to Shoaib but would you ever hear of him being called or reported for chucking? No. Why? Because it's obvious he's not chucking and the bending of his arm is back the 'wrong' way.

These allegations will never seize. Whatever the specialists say and whatever the umpires think, Akhtar will continue to be dogged.

Can anyone tell me wether the use of the wrist is allowed ? I mean before delivery you have your wrist taut and back, while delivering you thrust if forward, is that throwing ? I dont think it is but still it looks odd.

Oh please! Leave Shoaib out of this, he is a fine, fine bowler, and cricket is lucky to have him there. He has been cleared by all bodies, which means his action is okay!

Right, before this gets out of hand, a quick definition of chucking, then GI can go back to watching his video again and check if he wants.....

There is nothing in the laws which say that you cannot bowl with a bent arm - Brett Lee, Shoaib, Murali, they all have slightly bent arms, usually because of hyper-extension of the elbow.

If you look at any bowler (not just the ones I have mentioned) from different angles, you will always find some 'evidence' of the arm not being perfectly straight.

A throw is defined as straightening out the elbow at the moment of delivery.

The bowler can do with his wrist just what he wants - straighten it or bend it at the moment of delivery.

I know the definition Eddie, and I believe and have always believed Murali, Shoaib and Lee to be chuckers. Others disagree with me but in my opinion their arms bend back and then straighten. I'm afraid nobody will change that opinion.

Afterall he has an unatural arm, you can't fix it so his allowed to do it, even though he modified his action an all. He still chucks having this advantage. THough he has lost his strike rate of taking wickets. ANd that 100.6 Mph ball was clearly chucked aswell, no bowler not even jeff thomson could break the 100 mph barrier with his delivery which were hurled with a natural action, unless if thomson chucked he would have reached close to 102 to 104 mph and there was no speed radar gun available at that time during all the games, can't blame akhtar either, you just can't help it. How many times Brett lee tried to break 100 mph barrier and how many times he got injured and got back stress fractures. Bowling 100 mph is serious game even baseball players have hard time throwing heats that shoot up to 96 mph and they chuck the ball outright. ANd in cricket running from 16 yards and then bowling a chucker can measure up to 100mph indeed. ANd without chucking or having arm like akhtar its really hard to bowl 100 mph. Brett lee or other fast bowlers can do it without chucking but its just that after hitting th 100 mph barrier he is bound to get massive back aches and suffer from nausea and stress fractures, it wouild take toll on his body and akthar drinks a lot of heavy booze and eats raw meats to keep up his body with fats and carbos, and plus he gets tired easily if he doesn't chuck, after what we saw him Against India. Remember what happen to lillee, it took almost two years of his cricket away trying to bowl fastest delivery on earth with a natural arm action and he didn't have problems like akhtar in his arm, after he fought hard to create himself into a new body and refiened action and come out in almost 6 months and he was at the top of the game. Needless to say that Akthar chucks aswell ICC can't do anything, the more they can do is to refine his action everytime and keep in safety zone before he breaks his arm by bowling with a chucking action. I ve baseball pitchers disloacting their elbows and shoulders and colarbones and never recovering from it. And this is cricket afterall the fairest a game can get on the field.

Sorry, Bazza, but your opinion is not shared by anyone who actually counts in the game (ICC)

It's not exactly a new phenomenon, nor is the establishment's reaction to the phenomenon. To take an extreme case, the 1958-59 Ashes series. .Jimmy Burke, Keith Slater, Gordon Rorke and Ian Meckiff had all been 'accused by opponents' of throwing. Not bad, eh? Four in one team. England had a couple of 'questionables' in theirs too - Peter Loader and Tony Lock.

Let's lay this nonsense to bed for once and for all.

The game has less questionable actions now than it ever has had in the past.

This one's on a very short leash.

I can't see there being anything productive out of this, so watch it carefully.

I've said it many times, and I'll say it again. If a bowler's arm bends backwards that is hyperextention and is not counted as throwing. Murali's action is mostly wrist driven and he has a deformed elbow which he can't straighten fully. So he straightens his elbow as far as he can so he's not a chucker according to ICC rules.

This has gone on for a long time and no one agrees, so just give it a break...

Precisely!

People shouldn't whine about it after proffessional analysts have taken a look at it AND cleared it. People think they know better than those people actually doing the job.

Exactly. People who've seen a few replays of him bowling and think their opinion is just as valid as the people who did the study on his action are right up there with those who believe that an opinion that the moon is made of green cheese is just as valid as that of Neil Armstrong's.

No offense Bazza. :)

If anyone wants an explanation of the technical terms, just ask. Either I or Luckyeddie would be able to help.
Thank God that we have some smart people amongst us...:) :P

One question, you cannot analyze every delivery that shoaib is bowling. he could have refrained from chucking during the analysis and started the day after and you wouldnt know cuz its not being analyzed. ask him to bowl a 160kmph delivery under close scrutiny not a 140kmph one and lets analyze that one.
