Sri Lanka v West Indies

Bazza

International 12th Man
This one is getting interesting. Sri Lanka lost early wickets and crawled along. Didn't look like they'd get much past 200 before some late blows saw them reach 228-6.

West Indies lost Hinds early, then Lara for an uncharacteristic 1 off 22 balls! Vaas inspired early on returned 7-3-14-2 which includes 5 runs off his 7th over.

So Gayle, along with Sarwan is looking to repair the damage when this happens:

While Vaas was bowling brilliantly again, Gunaratne leaked 34 in 5 overs, so on came Fernando....

Fernando now replacing Vaas with the wind at his back
14.1 Fernando to Sarwan, FOUR, short loosener and Sarwan shows no respect, pulls hard through mid wicket, Welcome Sir

14.2 Fernando to Sarwan, (noball) no run, short, took his eyes off it, smacks him on the left hand side of the helmet around the ear. Was late in deciding to bail out and went down like a stone in a pool of water. The medical staff are out there seeing to him - still down lying on the wicket. Looks like he may have a cut, stretcher is on the ground now as it looks like they will have to carry him off. Hooper in to replace Sarwan.

RR Sarwan retired hurt 10 (19b 2x4 0x6)

Looks like the ear is cut - blood around it.

While Vaas was bowling brilliantly again, Gunaratne leaked 34 in 5 overs, so on came Fernando....

14.2 Fernando to Hooper, OUT: traps him right in front, looked a good call

West Indies 62/3, Partnership of 35
CL Hooper lbw b Fernando 0 (1b 0x4 0x6)
CH Gayle 41* (37b 7x4) CRD Fernando 0.2-0-5-1 (1nb)

Bang, West Indies go from getting back into the game at 57-2 to effectively 62-4. Chanderpaul in and WI well up with the 4.6 RR but struggling in the wickets column. Gayle amongst the runs for the first time, he needs to make it count and so does Chanders.

94 for 3 now, Gayle and Chanderpaul shaping a mini-recovery. The failure of both the senior batsmen, Hooper and Lara in this crunch match is quite shocking.

120-3 after 27.

If it's just a stitch or two, Sarwan may return. Hope so. I think he'll be OK.

Crystal Gayle's playing a gem of an innings

Vaas is in roaring form in this WC. Now, WI has an uphill task ahead and it all depends on Chanderpaul.

Well...SL win by 6 runs and becomes the first team from Group B to make it to the SS.

What a stupid shot Powell played:!( . I was expecting it when Marali was bowling to him and so to the SRL and that's why Murali flighted the ball. He just missed the first one and should have understood about that and play safely and attack the faster bowlers. Well badluck to the windies and also they didn't play well in pressure situations.

SL are not gauranteed to progress are they?

Vaas now has 16 wickets and could beat the 1999 record of Geoff Allott and Shane Warne of 20. Those wickets have come at an average of 8, but also he was wicketless against New Zealand, so 16 wickets at 6 in the last 4 games!
