Sorry, but this is a silly topic. The top players in the world are playing the WC...

Maybe we could discuss the guy who did the most stupid thing out there!

Chris Cairns bowling and going for 21 off his 1st over? That's a breadcrum moment if ever I saw one!

It might well be a silly subject.
But, not all these players deserve to be in the World Cup such as Tushar Imran.
There is no way that he should be in the World Cup.
He's out of this world. In a bad way.

<quack> in the context of the match, it had little or no bearing. I do agree, though, that it was

a) unusual
b) quite funny.

If the West Indies had won by 1 or 2 wickets, I'm sure I would have found some way to include it - and to have blown it out of all proportion

At the end of each week, I think that I will let you all decide on the 'breadcrumb of the week' - not necessarily just from my list. After all, I am only one duck.

These are some players I dont think deserve to be there, but they are obviously excellent cricketers for getting anywhere near selection!

England - Harmison (deserves top prize in this category)
South Africa - Robin Peterson
Pakistan - Shahid Afridi
Zimbabwe - Brian Murphy
Sri Lanka - Jehan Mubarak
New Zealand - Lou Vincent

Well, since Australia have the better crop of players they shouldn't have any bad players ? and since Bangladesh are minnows they peobably have a team full of them ! so...that renders this topic useless MB

Is Lou Vincent there as wicket-keeping cover?

I think it means, which players don't deserve their places in the World Cup squads.

I nominate Charl Langeveldt...

Sorry Rich :)

Lou Vincent may suck at batting, but he's one of the best fielders there is.

I felt sorry for Cairns, although he really delivered a benefit over to the West Indies he hasn't bowled for over a year & its unlikely after that over that he'll bowl against the better teams during the rest of the tournament.

Which is why the duck was so hard on him - and it's not fair.

<quack> I don't know what you mean.

Come on, DD. Your tedious infatuation with unusual dismissals, spectators being hit by sixes, accusations of players being drunk and now, even worse, your sellout to pure commercialism in your latest column has made me seriously reconsider your role in covering Cricket World Cup 2003

<quack> You're lovely when you're angry.

Stop it! Your thread is just a celebration of the mediocre.

<quack> I never mentioned England once!

You could argue that Symonds did not deserve his WC Place but he's now put that to rest. The only other player I can think of is Maher...who hasn't set the world on fire, but then he is the backup keeper and a better batsman than any of the keepers bar Gilchrist.

I noticed in the squad profile for Sri Lanka on the bbc world cup website that they said Jehan Mubarak was an outstanding fielder. Well I got a totally different impression of him in the VB Series, to put it simply he was awful & I wonder if the BBC have got him mixed up with someone else?

Lou Vincent hasn't got going with the bat as yet but you will notice he is tremendously quick between the wickets.

Most players are thought of as brilliant fielders...I mean Vaughan is rated as a superb fielder as he can take stunning catches yet he can also let the ball go between his legs or drop the easiest catch. As long as they are not Indian then they are a great fielder in the media's eye. As for India, Kaif and Yuvraj are good fielders, but on the tour of England, Kaif dropped at least as many as he caught.

Most fielders are good at international level & thats the way it should be.

There are probably 3 brackets..poor, good & excellent.

about 70% of players probably fit into the good category while 20% are poor and then theres the 10% who are excellent.

Michael Vaughan may be a good catcher but IMO you've got to be good at everything in the field to be excellent. Currently there are few players who can claim that status.

The problem is that Vaughan is thought of as a superb fielder yet he drops too many catches and miss-fields too often.

Oh well, I'm allowed to talk as I used to be known as "Jonty" because of my habbit of throwing myself all over the field and trying everything to stop the ball from crossing the rope...
