World Cup betting

I’ve just found an article that said Ladbrokes are now taking bets on every over in the world cup. I reckon it’s a cool way of betting.

I’ve bet on this at the cricket with a bookie at the Adelaide Oval during a boring one dayer and it was pretty cool. It turned a crap match into something really exciting, and it well and truly paid for the gate fee.

I’ve been waiting for the online sportsbooks to do this, and I guess it’s finally happened. Check out the Ladbrokes website just before the match.

The problem with this is it was under suspicion. Especially considering what has happened to cricket in the last few years (scandal).

In the old days you said x will win or y will lose. Then you could say x will score 230-250 or y will win by 40-60 runs. In other words the more variables (is that the right word?) that are added, the greater the possibility for cheating (match fixing).

I remember hearing this as long ago as 3 years ago when England were in South Africa. Which is kind of ironic because it's just after that everything 'came out' and Cronje and all the suspicion, etc.

Hard to rig an over

Have to disagree with you Bazza. If you think about it, it's really hard to rig a single over.

I went to the Ladbrokes site and it is really well set out. You can bet between each over, so you'd have to have almost every player in both sides rigging the result, otherwise it would get messed up by a no ball or a wide!

I think it is fun.

I'm not saying that exactly. What I meant was that it is easier for a team to fix their score (eg 230-250 as I said before) or you could do a 15 over score (eg 70-80) something like that. It is easier to do that probably than to lose a game. I dunno.

Anyway it's not particularly nice to talk about that kind of stuff when the World Cup is on! Lets just sit back and enjoy it.
