LANCASHIRE PUT TO THE TEST BY SA

LANCASHIRE – 259

A.Anderton – 88
R.Dravid – 60no
G.Kumar – 56
J.Lovich (10-3-32-2)

SOUTH AUSTRALIA – 235/6

N.Adam – 86
W.Jefferson – 51
Q.Boxall (10-1-38-1)
W.Pointer (10-1-41-2

A fine opening stand between A.Anderton and G.Kumar saw visiting Lancashire off to a great start against the reigning champions, but only vice captain R.Dravid was able to establish an innings after this as the SA bowlers became the first side to dismiss the Englishmen this season, Lancashire all out for 259 after 46 overs.
Then a magnificent display of tight bowling from all of the visiting bowlers put the squeeze on SA who fell short at 235/6.
Lancashire now top both the FC and OD Division 1 table, continuing to confound the tipsters who seem to install them as underdogs week after week.

no need to write a report as Graham as just coveredthe game, im very disapointed my batting line up couldnt chase their total, i feel we can win any game chasing under 300, next one day we will be reviewing the line up to include 5 specialist bowlers perhaps...

Ali & Cush Carn Victoria
Wickets Galore in Melbourne as Gamblers Walk Home in Disgust

Karnataka captain Dale Benkenstein was lucky enough to win the toss under cloudy skies at Melbourne, and decided to have a bowl as Khalid Ali and Aditya Jones thought they would get some swing into it. Ali broke through in his second over with a peach of a delivery that had Schiller bowled - gone for 4 (13 for 1). Yapp and Carver built a decent partnership for the home side, and Benkenstein made a controversial choice in bringing in part-time spinner Lennox Cush after only about seven overs. It paid off, though, because with only three balls gone of his first over, Carver tried to drive a slower ball but missed and got the inside edge through to keeper Sanjay Borde, and the umpire had no choice but to award him the wicket (49 for 2). However, Beasley and Yapp were hard to grind themselves on, and they built up a very good partnership in the next ten overs or so. After 20 overs - most of whom were bowled by Lasith Malinga, as he was smacked for 49 runs off 7 overs, the score was 100 for 2, and Victoria had recovered from their slump.

They thought. Lennox Cush, however, had his mind set otherwise. Coming in from the Great Southern Stand, he got one ball to bounce nastily off the footmarks, as Beasley was deceived by it and was left wondering how that one could have hit his pad. Gone he was, though, and Cush picked up his second wicket (103 for 3). Malinga bowled another poor over at Yapp before Cush came in again from the other end. Bowling to Hodge, he had frustrated him with a couple of early balls, and now he stepped onto the front foot and tried to loft him. He was comprehensively beaten and Sanjay Borde enjoyed his second dismissal (109 for 4). After Benkenstein realised Malinga wasn't going to do much, Khalid Ali got chucked the ball again, and he didn't disappoint as he removed Yapp, the most dangerous of the Victorian players, for 66 as he got the outside edge to a diving first slip Sean Maxwell (119 for 5). Dros looked considerably worried when he came to the crease, and he was undone by a 95mph ball outside off with outswing that had him look daft (119 for 6). Ian Harvey tried to get some runs up on the board by hitting a single off the last ball of the over, but became too cheeky and was stumped for 3 (122 for 7). Moss managed to block some balls, but with the last ball of Cush's day, he grabbed his fifth wicket and put in a major application for the Man of the Match award (122 for 8).

With the innings in shambles, Rummans tried not to rotate the strike but to protect Welsford at the other end. It nearly worked, as Jaminda Sigera served up some true pies for him to hit at, but he came back in the thirtieth over and had Rummans caught in the deep by a diving Cush (him yet again! 138 for 9). Malinga was set to wrap up the tail and with Welsford and Harwood in there, both fairly high on the rabbit-scale, Malinga saved some grace by having Welsford caught in the slips (138 all out).

The chase was always going to be easy, but Karnataka's batsmen wanted a good net run rate to catch up with the big boys in the league. As such, wickets fell regularly, with captain Benkenstein gifting one early to Shane Harwood off his own bowling - gone for 4 (14 for 1). Abhijit Kale paired up well with Sanjay Borde, Karnataka's most promising batsman, and they both went at about a run-a-ball until Borde gloved a Harwood bouncer to the keeper, being gone for 15 (54 for 2). The away side did not despair and fought on with their almost suicidal batting, Maxewll smacking three fours off Dros's dross before becoming too cheeky and mistiming a square cut, caught lbw (74 for 3). Kale was trapped into the same mistake by all-rounder Ian Harvey in the next over, gone for 41 (78 for 4). Zenon Keegan tried to build a decent partnership with Khanderao Rangnekar, but after punishing a ball from Welsford for four, he tried the same stroke and was well held at point by Ian Harvey (96 for 5). Aditya Jones, who had done a reasonably good job with the ball, stepped onto the crease and hit runs about at will. Together with Rangnekar, they scored 31 in a little less than 5 overs, before Rangnekar was caught at point (127 for 6). Still, Lennox Cush and Aditya Jones kept it going, and Karnataka won by 4 wickets with over 27 overs to spare.

Victoria 138 (30.5 ovs, Yapp 66 - Cush 5/36 [10], Ali 3/13 [5], Jones 0/24 [5]) lost to
Karnataka 140/6 (22.3 ovs, Kale 41 [40], Jones 27* [19] - Harwood 3/30 [6]) by 4 wickets

Match Star Points:
Lennox Cush (Karnataka) 3
Khalid Ali (Karnataka) 2
L Yapp (Victoria) 1

Karnataka Star Points:
Lennox Cush 3, Khalid Ali 2, Aditya Jones 1

nsw back on track

nsw got there one day campaign back on track with a not so convincing win over yorkshire. batting first nsw could only muster up a smallish total of 193 from 37 overs with j martin the star with 93(103) and m richardson continuing on his good form with 48(47). a terrible performance but take nothing away form yorks wo bowled a great line and length all day.

nsw defending 193 with the attack would hopefully do it easily and the attack of nsw proved to be too strong with yorks falling 82 runs short with bullbeck showing the way with 3 - 33 of 10 overs, young rookie q moore really struggled and only bowled the 3 overs, with himself having no rythem the skipper decided to rest him as the pressur eform the young lad was getting too much.peters , kallis and lee al chipped in with good bowling performances.

with sa loosing it see's the top of the one day table get close and a nice little battle starting to form for the div 1 one day title.

Somerset Thump Stunned Province

A massive 9 wicket win was the story of the day at Somerset, with centuries coming from the blades of both Rayadu and Sharath. It was welcome relief for Rayadu, who made a golden duck last week. For Sharath, he continued his rich vein of form, striking his second century for the season.

Coming in first, Province looked on top early, at one stage 1/135. After Mathur dismissed the brilliant Llewellyn at 32, a 103 run partnership followed and Somerset looked in dire trouble. But then Akhtar got too work and Province lost 6/63. They recovered from 7/198 to 243 all out. A challenging trouble to say the least.

In chase, it was to be a brilliant display from the No. 2 and 3 batsmen, compiling a mammoth 236 run partnership. Both the batsmen who did the damage gained tons for their efforts, and WP were in disgrace. Rayadu finished on 128* and Sharath 113*.

Very pleasing win.:)

Guyana In Familiar Territory as Unbeaten Season Comes to an End

Guyana came back to earth Yesterday as they lost their first one day game of the season as they were soundly beaten by a confident Glamorgan side.

Guyana bowled first and had early success when Lawson removed Ganguly but a 164 run partnership between ex-Guyanan Saravanan and van Jaarsveld put Glamorgan in a strong position at 2-172. Guyana were able to keep Glamorgan from posting a 275 plus score restricting them to 6-252 off their 50 overs. van Jaarsveld was the star for Glamorgan falling one short of his century. Perrera was the best of the Guyanan bowlers taking 2-33, usual Guyanan hero Ardley went for 70 off his 10 overs. An early injury to Mackenzie kept him out of the attack.

Guyana were confident in chasing down the total on a very good pitch. They were in a good position at 3-147, but Love departed there was nobody to offer the out-of-form Francis support, as Francis turned around a disapointing season to carry his bat for 103*. Guyana were dismissed for 197 in the 35th over losing by 55 runs. Gill was the pick of the Glamorgan bowlers taking 4-35.

Guyanan captain Martin Love was left to lament his batsman inability to build strong partnerships.

"Francis was batting superbly out there today, he was hitting the ball as well as I have seen all season. He was middling everything, and I think we all tried to follow suit rather than playing our own games and building partnerships. This will be a good learning curve for the younger players in the team who didn't experience the lean times that Guyana have had, maybe they won't take the team for granted now, maybe they'll pick up their act.

"We are not panicing yet, a loss this early means we can work on things. We have a tough four day game to prepare for against Auckland this week, we will have to turn things around if we want to compete against them."

Glamorgan 6-248 (50)

van Jaarsveld 99 (120)
Saravanan 68 (94)
Perrera 2-33 (9)

Guyana 197 (35)

Francis 103* (108)
Gill 4-35 (6)
Chandana 3-38 (7)

The Charge Continues

Warwickshire now sit on top of division 2 one day all by themselves after cruising to another win over Western Australia in Perth. This sets up a game in 2 weeks time against Tamil Nadu which could be a huge stepping stone towards winning the division.

Tamil Nadu, dramatically beaten on the weekend by Queensland, will fall 4 points behind Warwickshire if beaten, a gap that wont be easy to pull back.

Warwickshire won by 5 wickets btw
