Somerset hold on for draw

The ACT v Somerset division 4 clash ended in a disapointing draw with somerset having just 2 wickets left in the 4th innings, still over 100 runs behind.

While ACT can still come 2nd, its going to be a tough ask to beat champions WP, while still needing victoria to lose.

There were some positives to come out of the game, Watson batted well in the opening position, Cade Brown smashed his first century of the season and backed it up with 70 in the second dig. The form of Shah has also left incoming manager Brendon Goff with some selection headaches when it comes to choosing the season 5 squad.

Ramage, Bulbeck and French shared the wickets between them in a positive sign for the bowlers. Ramage's 4/58 and French's 3/38 in the first innings were real highlights.

There as some controversay however, the condition of Somerset's pitch is of real concern, from day 2 onwards te ball kept extremley low and on some occasions batsmen were lucky to not get out of balls that rolled. 17 of 26 wickets to fall in the last 3 innings were bowled or LBW, so obviously a lot of work for the ground staff for Somerset's next home game.

In What was an emotional day at the Adelaide oval, and a day that signalled the changing of the gaurd South Australia took on Indian Giants Karnataka...

The game signalled the LAST home game for South Australian Hero Darren Lehmann, as well as long serving Manager Brendon Goff. Lehmann who only 2 weeks ago shocked the world when he announced his retirement had an emotional farewell as record crowds flocked to the picturesque ground to farewell their champion..
Goff who has been at the helm since midway through Season 1, has been mainly responsible for taking the redbacks to the great heights they stand at today.

The day started perfectly for the home side as Lehmann won the toss and elected to bat 1st, however Andy Flower departed early for 3, But the talent of the Redbacks lineup again shone through as 4 of the next five batsman piled on the runs all passing 50, added to that a solid 40 from Vic Oliver, 24 from Scott Brant and a blistering 16 from 16 balls from Heath Axelby, However the highlight for the crowd was the Lehmann 50, the skipper recieving a huge ovation, one only matched by that of his departure from the ground...
SA racked up a solid 393, but little did they know what was ahead...

From the beginning of the Karnataka innings they didn't look settled, and something that has always troubled Indian teams raised its head again, as Kale was runnout for a 2nd ball duck. The dismissal was only the tip of the iceberg, as Stratton pushed his claims again for back to back player of the year awards with 4-42, whilst Dennet 1-27 and Snow 2-30 rattled Karnataka to see the Visitors all out for a modest 203...
The visitors day was shown through the dismissal of Howarth for 99..

Forced to follow, nobody would have predicted what would happen, Karnataka were again dismantled by Stratton as he took 5-24 to see Karnataka bowled out for a humiliating 128, and to the dissapointment of the home crowd, there was no chance to see Darren Lehmann bat again..

However a brilliant performance from the Redbacks again as they continued to show their dominance, and are starting to show signs that their is life after Lehmann...

Man of the Match was Rob Stratton, however the star of the show was without doubt Darren Lehmann, as after the game both he and Goff were chaired around the ground to say farewell to their fans...
South Australia have 2 games remaining however they will travel to yorkshire for 2 weeks as they play the English side in the final 2 games of the season..

Lancashire lost to NSW after a crazy declaration practically gifted the game to the home side. Look at the scorecard and you'll see what I mean!
Rumours soon started circulating about match fixing, but these were of course pooh-poohed by both sides.

Warwickshires hopes of promotion were hit hard in their game against Leicester, as the heavens opened up, meaning the 1st innings were not completed.

Other results see us drop to third. We now need results to go our way if we are to even make it into the promotion playoff game in the last round. To make matters worse we are up against Worcestershire, and the Steve Prefontaine Cup will be on the line. The ledger sits at 2-2, with the chance in this game to be able to keep it over the off the season. A lot will be on the line so our team must lift.

WA travel to Glam. Glam did it against Canterbury, so I don't see why they can't do something similar against WA. Canterbury host Leicester. Hopefully the can put on a spirited proformance as they go down to division four, perhaps giving their fans a show of what could have been. Even if that all happens we'll still need a solid victory over Worcestshire. The way our batsmen have played this season, its hard to see that happening. If Dean (50 wickets @ 20) and Gregson (36 wickets @ 24) can pull something together, as they have done this season we'll be in with a shot fo sho.

Northern Districts beat Colts by 6 wickets in their Round 9 Four Day clash.

"I am very happy with the win and a more detailed report will be forthcoming when I get a chance to go through the scorecard carefully." Team Manager Eyes_Only said today.

Western Province have finally succumbed to the pressures of being undefeated through season 4 as they went down to a hungry Victorian side.

It wasn't the start that set the tone for the match as Richardson and star bat Llewellyn taking the score to 1-131 before Richardson was dismissed for 75. The slide then continued as Victoria's star Harwood showed that this Province batting line up can be beaten with disciplined bowling. Harwood finished with figures of 6-102 and he was ably supported by Ian Harvey 3-52. Importantly however Province got to 300 giving them an extra bonus point making the D4 Championship theres.

Victoria still had a fight though. Currently sitting in second place a win here would give them a larger guarantee of making it into a play off game. Things started poorly for the Vics as early wickets halted their chase however some dogged lower order batting by former Province batsman Ashwall Prince (80) who was ably supported by Jeffrey and Stanton as Victoria edged closer to Province's 300. Ishy Nelson however was able to swing the game in to Province's favour with 4-84, leaving Victoria all out for 291, importantly for WP they denied Vic a bonus point.

The response from WP however was woeful. Things haven't been tight yet this year and it appears that when things get tight the young stars at Province just don't want to stand up. The verbal stoushes which followed in the dressing room when Llewellyn, Funston and Rickman all walked back only after walking out were audible in Jo'burg as Slats told them they are not wanted here if they don't want to fight, because in coming seasons in the top grades they will have to fight. 236 was all the side could manage setting Vic a realistic chance to stay alive in the div 4 playoff race.

Western Province's bowlers however did show the fight required with Bishop Matthie and Ishmael Nelson showing that they have the hunger to win these close ones. However the strength of Victoria was too much and big Matthew Elliot was once again instrumental in defeating Province, he's done it before as well. DAMN ELLIOT

Anyways a poor weekend of cricket somehow put the nail in the coffin and secured Province the championship...
Believe me the beers still flowed...

Come on Div 3
