Strike rate v Economy rate.
I'm really counting on the new sim taking both into account as VCM4 did, otherwise I'm stuffed!
Let's look at two different bowlers, one with sr 48 ec 2.7, the other with sr 42 ec 3.5. Bowling 20 overs each, theoretically the first should concede about 54 runs capturing 2.5 wickets. The second should concede about 70 runs capturing 2.8 wickets. Question is - does 0.3 wkt equate to 16 runs? (1 wkt = 53 runs) Looking at this way, which bowler would you prefer? |
The first one basicly your saying 16 runs or 0.3 of a wicket
|
Any opinions or this too intellectual!:P
|
It depends if he deserves the wickets or not :saint:
Personally, I'll go SR every time. |
i would much prefer bowler 2, i mean if he's picking up wickets, i would much rather have 6/80 then 2/30..
TBH when im searching for players E/R rarely gets a look in, i look solely at the S/R and the overs if they are level then ill look at the E/R other then that its just another figure to me.. |
I think most people do, but my analysis would suggest that you should look at both factors.
The 48 / 2.7 bowler would in theory take 10 wickets every 80 overs conceding 216 runs. The 42 / 3.5 bowler would in theory take 10 wickets every 70 overs conceding 245 runs. Not really that much difference between the two, this would suggest. |
I agree with Blewy, always look at strike rates, but eco doesnt usually get a look in.
|
Strike rate is my foremost concern, but eco rate is worth taking note of especially if its 4+ in 4d... It can be the difference between 20 runs per wicket or 30 runs per wicket... On a larger scale that could become quite significant...
|
As long as the sim actually takes both into account equitably, I'm happy.
|
Well Ryan Cunningham had an econ of 32 and a s/r of 64 and he got 30 wickets at 25 last season. I'm quite happy with that.
|
But a different sim engine is being used this season.
|
i'm with graham... i picked both clarke and wright on econ's. also mann and kumble also have very good econs...
|
i always look at both equally. love my low er players

In One Day it is something to consider, because obviously economy rate is important.
In 4 Day neither are very important, all that really matters is average which you can easily calculate from the S/R and E/R. |
