A good start to the season, happy to see everyone has gotten their teams in on time. For those guys who volunteered to help Matt with the Player of the Year points please get those to him ASAP.
On the field it was an enjoyable start to the season, several players had remarkable debut's and some teams look to have turned the tables while it looks much of the same for some others.

Are they blind? - McTavish

After seeing his side fall at home to NZI in the opening game of the first class season Hamish McTavish let fly at Umpires Steve Bucknor and Asoka De Silva after the pair single handedly took away any chance the Lightning had of winning their inaugural match.

"Those to blind fools wouldnt know the meaning of LBW if it was tattooed to their foreheads, i mean look at some of the decisions, 9 LBW's and 6 of them were against us. I know their is a vendetta against us but we don't care, from now on we will take matters into our own hands" McTavish proclaimed.

Asked if the lightning would be making a complaint over the performance of the umpires, McTavish replied, "Let's just say we've already dealt with the problem and we have a feeling it won't be showing its ugly face, or should i say face's again"..

Asked to comment on the performance of his players, McTavish heaped praise on new ball pair Bert Rankin and Neville Dredge, saying the pair stepped up in the absence of the experienced James Kirtley although they needed more support from Norbert Carter, "The new ball boys were sensational, but we lacked punch with that 3rd quick option, we may look at other options in that area in the next game, but we'll see what happens".

In Other news it has been reported that ICC Umpires Steve Bucknor and Asoka De Silva have not been seen since departing the field after the clash between the Lightning and NZI, Police are said to be investigating a drug ring that the pair were allegedly involved in. More news as it comes to hand.

Not sure why you would ever declare in this league. Would have been happy with a draw, oh well. Probably need to play a 5th bowler to try and take 20 wickets.

Not exactly what I was hoping for, but our batting held strong. I was looking for more from our bowlers, but didn't really get it. Will be looking for more potency in future performances. A solid start in all, but really think we'll struggle in FC this season.

COBRAS OPEN THE SEASON WITH CRUSHING WIN

Cape Cobras have opened their WCC Season 3 campaign with a huge victory over title challengers New South Wales. Cobras picked a maximum 20 points in the win which sends them straight to the top of the table. The fixture was dealt a huge blow with the withdrawals of Blues bowlers Brett Lee and Beau Casson, however the Australian's bowling attack still looking meanacing and should have been able to perform.

Cobras produced one of their trademark first innings performances by posting 459, youngster Richard Levi continued his incredible WCC career by scoring 105, batting one spot higher in the order now he is expected to be the rock in the middle order at number 4 and he showed again what he is capable of. Reigning WCC player of the year had a day to forget as he fell to the first ball of the season to debutaunt Dharsana Gamage. Ben Allen made the most of his shock selection by scoring a well crafted 79, Wicketkeeper Matthew Wade playing his first WCC game in over a season made a solid half century. 73* from all rounder William Fitzstanford got the Cobras to their good total of 459. NSW Spinner Greg Belle was the best of the bowlers with three wickets including those of key batsmen Levi and Frank Hammett.

Matthew Wade enjoyed his WCC comeback match with a solid fifty

New South Wales' top order crumbled under the pressure of chasing a big score, with NSW's batting supposedly their strong point it was worrying signs for manager Jamee Gray to see his side slip to 6/57. A poor total 142 was eventually posted with only 47 not out from wicketkeeper Brad Haddin contributing anything decent. Fitzstanford again starred, this time taking 5/33 which indcluded 5 of the top 6 batsmen, the highlight an inswinger york to bowl captain Phil Jaques. Pakistani fast bowler Naved Ul-Hasan also impressed on WCC debut taking 3/50. New South Wales were asked to follow on.

A much better second innings effort from the Blues gave to respectability to the match, a total of 419 meant that Cobras would be batting again. 92 from opener Phil Hughes and another 88 from Brad Haddin were the highlights of the innings as the Cobras bowlers struggled on a relatively flat deck. Carey Vaughan also impressed as WCC's first female cricketet made 82 and looked right at home. She was denied a hundred by a stunning catch to Seekkuge Prassana. Spinners Prasanna and Nisitha Rupasinghe showed glimpses of form as they took three wickets each. Another spinner in part timer Frank Hammett also revelled in his extra bowling workload to take two wickets including that of Hughes.

Phil Hughes top scored with 92 in the second innings

Needing just 103 runs to win the game with plenty of time remaining Cobras coasted to the win but not before NSW produced a mini revival. Finishing at 4/105 Cobras claimed the victory with relative ease but it probably gave due credit to the figh that the Blues showed on the final two days of the game. Neil Dexter made 28 as he top scored in an innings where all the batsmen got starts. Stuart Clark produced a good spell of bowling to finish with 3/26.
