Coach Claims most Amazing thing in Season 3

Province travelled to Colts with the aim of restoring some lost pride against arguably the strongest side in D4.
Colts won the toss and had no quarms about batting first as the pitch was always going to deteriorate.

The Colts batting line up showed there tremendous class and depth. V Shewag and M Boucher was the stars of the innings with Shewag compiling 116 and Boucher a brilliant 96, there were however many other solid contributions with Shahrath 47, Y Singh 60, and Shaw 54.
B Lee kept Province in the game taking 4-124 but Province now were behind the 8 ball.

Province batsman who had yet to really perform this season showed tremendous resilliance against a strong bowling outfit.
6 batsman scored 30 or more runs, with Yates Rickman and Irani all going past 50. It was an innings which promised more however as no one went on to make a really big score.
A Prince however was the star, not content with 162 against Colts last year playing for Auckland he added 83 today to give the total the edge required of 452 to deem it competitive.

However what was to Follow was amazing.
Colts, the side with the most batting points on the table, a side whose avg's state they should get in excess of 320 were dismissed for what is believed to be a record low 40. Nelson was the star, finally showing the WCC what a young champion he is, destroying the Colts top order. Colts were 4-26 with Nelson claiming all 4 before you could say "**** this kids good".
Brett Lee then set about destroying the tail ending the innings with 4-26. Nelson however bettered Lee and finished with 6-19 t show how much of a star he is. 6 ducks were recorded in the innings and a total of 143 was set for Province.

Province batsman followed on from where the bowlers left off. Llewellyn hitting his way to 80 not out secured the win by Colts by 9 wickets.

Slats4ever: "The win today finally does justice to this side. The side is a very talented side and so far this season there performances have been ****house. But today the teams 3 stars stood up to hopefully lift the side for the second half. Lee was inspirational, Llewellyn was classy and Nelson was brilliant, to dismiss this side for 40, I don't care what anyone says is the most amazing thing to happen in WCC season 3."

Canterbury Continue Charge to Division 3

Canterbury played Victoria in their round 5 clash which was never going to be an easy match for either side. Victoria batted first and got off to a poor start losing 2-16, before Arnberger (33) and Lloyd (51) put on a good partnership. A century from Webster (103) pushed the score on to 334 all out with help from Harvey (56) and Blackwell (34). For Canterbury, all bowlers too a wicket with Kirby and Mills taking 2 each and White taking 3-61 in only his second match of the season.

Chasing a respectable target, Canterbury needed to get off a good start which they did with Jaffer (44), Sinclair (71), and Mills (111) pushing the score past Victoria's for the loss of only 3 wickets. Two more centuries were scored by Raza (104) and White (101 no), with Round (98) narrowly missing his. Canterbury all out for 616, giving them a lead of 282. Webster continued his good performance taking 3-84.

Victoria's second innings got off to a worse start then their first losing 2-0. A couple more wickets it was 4-70. Only Webster (54) and Lloyd (81) provided resistance and Victoria were all out for 216. All bowlers again took a wicket with White taking another 3.

Canterbury wins by an innings and 66 runs.

Man of the match was White with his 6 wickets and century.

Another disappointing draw as the Qld bowlers could take advantage of a good first innings lead.

NSW batted first and got to 396. Slater 115 and Lara 79 got the runs. The wickets were well shared with Trott taking 3/36.

Qld in reply batted very well to amass 579. Love 160, Hussain 64, Fogden 61 and Pothas 85 were the stars. Ferguson ans Cairns took 4 wickets each.

NSW then hung around long enough to keep Qld out of the game. 328 with Kallis making 137. Kaspar took 5 wickets but too many overs were bowled.

Faced with a target of 146 off 19 overs it just couldn't happen.

The bowling is a real concern. The batting has also been hit and miss but in this game was good.

Warwickshire Vs. Worchestershire

Warwickshire for the third time this season, failed to score over a bonus on their first innings. Sent into bat they were bowled out for only 170. Hemanath Kumar (49*), Anderson (37) and Howarth (31) showed little resistance, but it was never going to be enough.

Worchester had a chance to push on for a 1st innings lead, but they were never given a chance as Warwickshire pulled out one of their best bowling proformances of the season. Gregson removed Dighton and Flower with his first two balls, and from then on there was no looking back. Kaneria took the middle order apart, and as Gregson finished off the tail, finishing what he had started, Worchester were all out for only 73. Gregson (4/18), and Kaneria (4/9) were the stars.

Warwickshire now had a lead of 97 and they pushed on. It was a much better innings. Anderson fell short of his first century making 95, while Hemanath Kumar remained unbeaten for the match with 89*. Lawson was the last man out picking up a pair as Warwickshires second innings closed at 360. Worchestershire needed 458 to win.

Worchestershire were always behind the eight ball. A gutsy knock of 146* from Nicol saw them through to 386, 81 runs short of their target. Lawson enjoyed one of his better spells of the season taking 4/82, while Kaneria picked up 3/88 and Gregson 2/87.

Warwickshire now lead the division three title race by 5 points. Tasmania have taken 14 points out of that lead in the past two rounds. IMO the round 7 clash between these two sides could very well decide who gets automatic promotion.

LANCASHIRE BOWLERS TOO GOOD FOR TAMIL NADU

Tamil Nadu batted first, but could only scratch together a disappointing 190 all out with S.Jayasuriya (40) and M.Samuels (36) the best of the batsmen.
All of the Lancashire bowlers impressed with S.Harwood (3/26), M.Pushpakumara (3/52) and M.Rice (3/57) the most successful.

The Lancashire batsmen found the batting conditions just as awkward, but K.Baumgarner (93) got good support from R.Dravid (55) and M.Ramprakash (40) to help their side though to 285 all out, a useful first innings lead of 95 runs.
Young Tamil Nadu paceman Y.Engineer was in devastating form as he finished with figures of 16-8-27-5, but the other bowlers failed to back up his efforts.

Tamil Nadu’s second innings was even more woeful than the first as they tumbled to 166 all out with keeper T.Arasu (32) the top scorer.
Lancashire showed that they should cope with the loss of veteran pace bowler A.Dale (out for 6 weeks after being injured in the previous match) as E.Kellar (4/32), S.Harwood (3/61) and M.Pushpakumara (2/40) did the damage this time round.

Left with just 73 to chase for victory, Lancashire lost M.Ramprakash early before A.Schiller (52no) and K.Baumgarner saw them through to a comfortable 9 wicket victory.

K.Baumgarner was named man of the match for his standout innings of 93 on a difficult pitch.

TAMIL NADU – 190 and 166
LANCASHIRE – 285 and 73/1

Karachi travelled to Canberra for the big division 5 clash this week. Karachi captain Moin Khan took the reigns as manager for this match as previous manager Tim resigned from his post earlier in the week.

In a first for Manuka Oval this season the deck looked like it might suit the bowlers for the majority of the match. So when stand in ACT captain Cade Brown won the toss and elected to bat first it was a bit of a surprised.

Although missing both captain and vice captain (Dawn and Trescothick) through injury, the Comets were still confident of keeping their unbeaten record in tact.

In form batsmen Maxwell and Brown were the first 2 to fall and when opener David Jeffrey fell with the score on 61 ACT were in trouble. A steady fall of wickets with no big partnerships saw ACT all out for just 218. Shane Watson (45) top scored with off spinner Mark Hatton getting 32 down the order.

A big bowling effort was required for ACT to stay in the match. With some of the strike bowlers in good form a first innings lead wasnt out of the question. the Comets got the start they needed having Karachi at 4/76. no one in the top order did much for the pakistanis, they looked gone at 9/209 before Penney and Midlane put on 133 for the 10th wicket and put Karachi into a winning position with 344.
Penney (84*), Mahmood (66) and Midlane (51) were the best of the batsmen.
Simon Mann took 4/95 with Ramage, French and Hatton all grabbing 2 each.

The second innings was much better for the ACT. They made 390 and the match became very interesting. Cade Brown (131) made his second century of the season, Christian Hanna (69) and Sean Maxwell (68) also played great innings. Maqbool with 4 was the best of the bowlers.

Karachi need 266 to win the match. It wasnt going to be easy on a deteriorating pitch. Solid contributions got them home. 6 of the batsman made between 24 and 29 to go with M Wagh's 79*. mann and Ramage got 2 wickets each.

A disapointing result for the Comets, but with 2 of our stars out losses are expected. A 3 wicket loss against Karachi probably wasnt expected at this stage of the season, but we will just have to work harder to get back to the top of the table.
Still some very poor performances from Jeffrey and Southam in the 4d game. they will need to fire if we will win our next 4d match.

South Australia hosted Yorkshire in what SA manager Brendon Goff said was a danger game for the Redbacks...

The wicket looked like it would have a bit in it for both bowlers and batsman and when the coin came down in favour of SA skipper Lehmann he had no hesitation in batting 1st...

Things however didn't go to plan for SA as they lost Jenkins early for 2, 1-4....
Lehmann and Williams took the score to 71 before Lehmann fell for 29, and with the in-form Stratton failing to score SA had fallen to 3-72.
Snow and Williams took the score to 143 before both departed, Snow for 39 and Williams 62, SA were in trouble at 5-143...
The SA tail fought gamely but a spell of bowling from Hamilton saw him dismiss the last 4 SA batsman to have the home team All Out for a dissapointing 216...
Hamiltons 5-66 by far and away the best for the visitors although the early breakthroughs from Gough paved the way...

In reply Yorkshire got a solid start through Arunkumar and Tendulkar with the pair posting 46 before Bond snared Arunkumar for 16. Stratton then claimed Tendulkar for 30 to have Yorks in a nervous situation at 2-56...
Laney and Hooper steadied the ship, taking the score to 116 before a spell of bowling from Mark Haritty had the Yorks line-up in tatters...
Haritty dismissed Hooper (37), Stuart Law for a 1st ball duck, and then Rookie West for 8 to have Yorks 5-128...
Jones gave support to Laney until he fell to Oliver for 27, 6-207...
Yorks really powered ahead then with White and Laney posting a 97 run partnership before the innings began to wind up...
Stratton taking 3 of the last for including White (57) and Laney (112)...
Yorkshire All Out for 319, for SA Stratton with 4-40 was the pick of the bowlers but he was well supported by Haritty...

SA needed a big score to get themselves back into the game, but when they fell to 3-61, with Jenkins, Williams and Lehmann all back in the pavillion the task was going to be tough...
Stratton and Snow put on 104 before Stratton departed for 45, 4-165..
It was then the rookies who stole the show...
Oliver and Snow playing some enthusiastic cricket took the score to 253 before Snow departed for his maiden 1st class hundred, unfortunatley he couldn't go on and was dismissed for exactly 100, SA 150 in front with 5 wickets in hand..
Oliver continued on and with the support of the tail helped SA post a challenging total, Bowled out for 354 with Oliver hitting 73, Yorks requiring 252 to win...
Again Hamilton stood out taking 4 wickets...

A tricky chase was left for the Yorkshirmen and when Arunkumar departed for 13, Yorks were in early trouble, 1-14...
Tendulkar and Laney took the score along to 81 before Laney fell for 24, and when Hooper fell for 8 the match was evenly poised with Yorks at 3-99...
Tendulkar and Law took the score to 142 before Tendulkar finally fell to Oliver for 54.. The dismissal signalled a mini collapse which put Yorks under immense pressure, Law (29) and Jones (3) both fell and all of a sudden Yorks were 6-154..
West and White put together a small partnership before the youngster was dismissed for 20, and with Hamilton's batting not having the same effect as his bowling, falling for 6 Yorks were on their last legs at 8-191...
White and Gough breathed hope for the englishmen as they put together a good partnership which took Yorkshire past 220 but White's dismissal for 28 was the last chance, Gough battled but the pressure was to much for him and he was dismissed for 29, Yorkshire All Out for 237, falling 15 runs short...
For the Redbacks a good bowling performance with all players chipping in...

After the match SA manager Brendon Goff told reporters that he was pleased with the boys win.. " We didn't play our best out there today but we still came up with the win, It's a credit to the team that they can dig themselves out of a hole like that and still win...."

"To give away a 100 run lead after the 1st innings was a bit dissapointing but we expected Yorks to be a danger, we struggled early but the main thing is we came through..."

Victoria hosted Canterbury this week, and found the going a little tough. The Bushranges won the toss, and deciding to bat on a green pitch. With thier long batting order captain Elliot backed his boy to make a winning score. Not all went to plan, when Elliot was back in pavilion after just 3 balls. To make matters worst he was quickly joined by gun recruit Sanjay Manjrekar. The Canterbury pacemen were all accurate and keep the scoring to a minimum, and when White picked up Graeme Lloyd caugh in the deep, it seemed very dismal at 6-130. Alrounders Harvey and Webster (who was deteremined to prove his ability to bat) went about rebuilding the innings, and combined with some herotics from Ian Blackwell, Victoria crawled to 334 a/o after 100 overs. Webster finishing with his first ton for Victoria.

By the time berries came out to bat the pitch had calm down nicely, and Victoria's only paceman, Ahmed was unable to get any of the unexpected bounce that dislodged the Vic top order. Mills and Raza both joing Webster in century club, followed by fellow alrounder White, who was 101 not out when canterbury closed their innings at 616 a/o. The only Bowler to hold his head high was Webster, with 3/84 off his 28 overs. The total truely showing the lack of ability Victoria has with the ball.

Victoria cam out to bat in the 2nd innings, needing 283 to make Canterbury bat again, sadly it was not to be. Elliot completed a pair, and Arberger made a donut too, and after just 8 balls into the 2nd innings the Vics where 2/0. Manjrekar failed again, while Lloyd completed his 2nd half century for the match. Kumar Sangakarra was looking solid in his quick fire 20, when he misjudged a schofield bouncing, and fell back into his stumps. Webster again out in another fine performance with a 54, and has definately put his hand up for a move up the order next first class match.

Man of the match was White, but a very big mention to Webster, who made 157 runs and took 3 wickets for the match.
