Round 4 One Day Reports

International Vice-Captain
Province Perform

The Province side travelled to Swansea with a different looking side, keen to get their season back on the rails with a win. Knowing if they were to be any chance of promotion next season a win was needed to bowlers started out well.

Both Michael Powell and Saurav Ganguly were dismissed cheaply with Yates and Nelson doing the early damage.
Glamorgan's middle order showed some promise, however all got out after making starts, besides Owen Hemp who made a well compiled 68, before being disastrously run out.
A low score was on the cards, but some late rallying and good hitting from Marlon Black and Darrel Tuffey, saw the score reach 209 before being bowled out, something which was going to be defendable. All the bowlers contributed well with Irani being the star taking 3/34 off 9 to keep the lid on the score.

Province's new look batting line up started very well. Mark Richardson looked impressive making a quick 24, however with Rickman going for 0 the game was back in the balance. However with solid and rapid contributions from Prince, McKenzie and Laxman, supporting a sparkling knock from Rabbi Llewellyn of 93 (70) showed that Western Province weren't pretenders, as they cruised to victory in the 31st over.

Manager Slats4ever was impressed with the sides performance "we've shown potential so far this season, however haven't really performed to it. We've scraped a win and lost a few good matches. Today's game however was different, we looked to dominate from the start with the ball, and the bowling was tidy and deadly, an impressive performance considering what's happened sso far. Our batting continued to look good with Rabbi showing that he is not a pretender, he could well rise to the heights of guys like Darden and Bevan"

Man of the Match Rabbi Llewellyn
"It was great to repay my supporters with some runs today. I think the pressure to perform has been getting to me, and today I put that beside me so I could focus on getting runs, which I did, the wicket was a nice bonus as well".

Warwickshire were always going to be up against it against promotion chasers Hampshire. Pakistani's Ul-Haq and Bin Nasir destroyed Warwickshire bowling, both making 91 as Hampshire reached 287/3. Warwickshire bowling continues to struggle in the one dayers, with another **** proformance.

In reply Warwickshires openers made a good start putting on 45. Ali went for another disapointing score. Warwickshire battled on, Howarth came, and put on another bulldozing display, making 24 of only 13 balls. Resistance came from Hockley (32), but when he went, the game was up. Anderson made 91, backing up on his 116* from the previous one day round against WP. Warwickshire were bowled out for 231 in the final over.

Things aren't going to get any easier next one day round, as they face Karnataka. Should be an interesting match, you never know... :D

Well you were certainly lucky to get away with opening the bowling with a spinner in a OD match :O - Mind you didn't end with that bad of figures 1/34 from 7 overs and quite incriably 3 maidens.

I'm still unsure as to why Yates opened the bowling!
on my bowling line up he's somewhere down the bottom.
Oh well he did well so no complaints.

Ramage is a leg Spinner and he opened the bowling when he got his 9/7.

Karachi shine with new Manager

After only days of joining the Karachi team, new Manager Tim Evans has helped guide his team to a thumping win over Free State.
Star player Javed rocked Free State with figures of 4/19 as Free State were skittled for 109 after just 32 overs.
Only Venter impressed with the bat as he managed to score 36* with the rest of the team falling around him.
In reply Karachi had little trouble in knocking off the total with Fernando (49) & McMillan (46*) making easy work of the Free State bowlers finishing with 111/2 after just 23 overs.

Man of the Match Fernando praised the team & then thanked the new manager for making such a smooth transition into the team.
Tim Evans then followed up by saying "This team is very talented, we've already won 3 out of 4 matches and I hope this will continue."

Karachi now take on Freestate in a 4 day match.

ACT vs Mashonaland

The grudge match of division 5 saw ACT host Mashonaland at Canberra's Manuka Oval. The Comets turned on a beautiful day for the Zimbabweans who were looking for their 2nd 1d win of the season. It was always going to be a tough game for them taking on division 5 leaders, the unbeaten ACT Comets.
ACT batted first and were soon in trouble as Ben Southam was out 5th ball of the innings for a duck.
This pitted 2 of the Comets best together. Captain Michael Dawn and in form Sean Maxwell played some fantastic shots, thrilling the 8000 or so members of the crowd.
Australian prime Minister John Howard was in attendance for the day of cricket and was quoted saying that The Comets are now his favourite WCC team. The ACT board have apparently now approached Mr Howard to be number 1 ticket holder.
The Comets batted well and were dismissed in the 50th over for a solid 286.
Top scorers were Shane Watson 59(55), Michael Dawn 55(61) and David Jeffrey 54(45). Brad Hogg also impressed with a better than a run a ball 33. He now averages over 50 in the 1d game for the comets.
Lambert and Cunningham took 3 wickets each for Mashonaland.
The Zimbabweans were no match in reply as Burns was the only one to show some form with a brilliant 69 from 61 balls.
ACT Leg Spinner who is quickly making a name for himself took a further 6 wickets to take his season total of 19 one day wickets. Ramage also took his 2nd hat trick of the season to complete a fantastic performance.
Shane Watson was named man of the match after taking 3 wickets to go with his 59 runs.
Mashonaland all out for 160 in the 35th over.
ACT won by 129 runs and have now won 4 consecutive games.
manager Simon Fitzsimmons is happy with the way the side is performing but is a little worried about the amount of runs being conceded.
Mashonaland are obviously a much better 4 day side than they are 1 day team and we will have to be at our best to beat them.

nsw get home

nsw looking to keep there unbeaten one day record in tact when they faced a fired up colts. nsw knew it was going to be a tuff win.

nsw batting first could not have gotten of to a worser start. haddin being promoted to the top of the order with a shuffle around in the batting was dissmised 2nd ball and nsw 1 - 0. corey richards did what he did best and that was to score runs, 137 (153) just proving how under rated he is to nsw. he was well supported by m bevan who hit 120* (105) and lara played a late cameo knock of 28 (11). nsw setting up a good total of 3 - 321.

the best bowling for colts was M Beasley 9 overs 1 maiden 1 - 48.

could colts chase the big total, or would nsw bowlers get ontop.

it all started well for nsw when colts where 3 - 57 then 4 - 84, the boys started to relax but then come big hitting l kluesner who hit his highest total for the season with a magnificent display of power and timing, 124 coming from (103) but he had very little support except for g shaw who hit 86 (71). colts would fight backw ell but fall 22 runs short.

the nsw bolwers all got wickets but the pick was g mcgrath who stepped up and had figures of 9 overs 2 - 43. was backed by d ferguson who continues to improve with each game.

all in all a descent win but bugs wouldnt say a comfortable win when at once stage colts where 4 - 84, the boys then took it to easy and it nearly come back to bit us on the bum.

just happy to be ontop of the table.

thanks

Qld got knocked over by SA this week and the team is really struggling. We could only manage 105 (Hussain 41 and Flintoff 29). R Stratton took 4/16. In reply SA only lost 1 wicket late in the chase. Jenkins 54 and Williams 54* got the runs.

Things will need to pick up for the Qlders otherwise they will relegated in both forms of the game.

Congrats to NSW on a Brilliant Batting display especially Richards and Bevan for their Hundreds and Lara for his 28(11). Beasley was the only bowler not to get smashed.

Great Batting from Klusener and Shaw got us close but not quite there, no matter

Congrats to NSW on a good win

LANCASHIRE SNATCH TENSE WIN OVER WA

Western Australia batted first and put together a competitive 243/5 with M.Hussey (70), A.Gilchrist (57no), J.Langer (43) and M.Goodwin (41) all standing out.
S.Harwood (10-3-23-1) and M.Mendis (10-3-33-2) bowled superbly well for the home side and it was mainly due to their efforts that the visitors were restricted to a gettable total.

At 128/4, Lancashire looked out of it, but a magnificent innings from J.Madanagopal was holding things together just. But when the situation deteriorated further to 191/8 and then 220/9, 24 runs were still needed with the last pair of Madanagopal and S.Harwood at the wicket. It was to be Madanagopal’s day though as he guided the home side through to victory, finishing with a wonderful lofted six to end the match on 105no.
Of the visiting bowlers, P.Peters impressed most with figures of 6-1-28-3. J.Yovich picked up four wickets but was too expensive (10-0-59-4).

WA – 243/5

M.Hussey-70
A.Gilchrist-57no
J.Langer-43
M.Goodwin-41

LANCASHIRE – 248/9

J.Madanagopal-105no
A.Schiller-32
J.Yovich-4/59
P.Peters- 3/28

Lancashire sitting just 2 points behind unbeaten SA on the points table!
