COBRAS ONE DAY TROUBLES CONTINUE

Cape Cobras travelled to England to take on Kent in their round two clash of World Club Cricket's One Day competition. Spirits in the camp were high after another big win in last week's First Class fixture against New South Wales and the South African's were confident of posting their first one day win of the season. Things started well for Cobras when they had Kent at 2/18 with the big wickets of Rob Key and Kevin Pietersen, but a huge 215 run stand between Llewellyn and Pothas gave Kent the upper hand and a big total looked likely. A couple more wickets fell to Zondeki and he single handedly got his team into the game, some good hitting at the end gave Kent an imposing total of 4/278 from their 50 overs, Nic Pothas top scoring with 132. Zondeki took 4/42 for Cobras.

Graeme Smith continued his early season form with a patient 68 as he was the strongest performing batsman for his side, however some bad running between the wickets which cost Cobras the wickets of Gibbs and Kallis was ultimately the difference between the two teams as Cobras batted out their 50 overs falling 17 runs short of their target. Porter again a star performer for the South African's making a blistering 55 however his efforts were in vain. Arafat and Mahmood were the pick of the bowlers for Kent.

Hayden Leads Riot

Queensland captain Matthew Hayden has led a riot against Karachi in their most recent one day outing. The Queensland captain guided his team to 4-303 top scoring with 180*. It was almost a lone hand from the skipper, however he did find a foil in allrounder Andrew Symonds (83) who combined with his captain with a 196 third wicket partnership that broke the back of the Karachi bowlers. Both batsman never looked troubled and it took an ambitious dance down the pitch in the dying overs by Symonds to break the partnership as he was stumped by Froggett.

With plenty of runs on the board, the Queensland bowlers bowled with aggression and the fieldsmen backed them up. Johnson (3-47) began the carnage with two early wickets and was also backed up by Hopes (2-38) and Noffke (1-51). Froggett wss the only batsman to offer any resistance, his 63 not out ensured Karachi passed 200. Bichel (2-27) picked up some late wickets and Zulch (1-19) grabbed one. Queensland won by 73 runs.

First Class Debutant
Victoria off duck.

The Bushrangers have had their first win of the season, using their preferred format (other than Twenty20) to get off the mark.

Winning the toss and batting first the bushrangers set a total of 261 for Yorkshire to chase down. With Brad Hodge starring with an unbeaten 103 from 141 balls. The rest of the batsmen batted around Hodge, all making starts, but failing to go on with it.

But it was with the ball this match was won. 261 looked a lot bigger when White caught Pyrah in Wise's first over of the innings. Meanwhile at the other end Nannes set about destroying the Yorkshire batting line-up, finishing with match winning figures of 5/42. Nannes was supported well by spinners McGain and White, who bowled economically on a spinners track at the MCG.

Hopefully this is the first of many victories.
