Free State kicked off their first WCC season with a crushing win over Mashonaland at Goodyear Park.

Mashonaland, batting first, were ripped out in spectacular fashion by the spin of Santosh Vadeyaraj and Lennox Cush.

Free State cruised home for the loss of just two wickets.

Hampshire won their opening game against a strong glamorgan in a fashion which the hampshire manager isint pleased at all ,

Hampshire which went into the game with nothin to lose , looked at its strong star studded batting lineup to give the most , put into bat after losing the toss , wickets fell and the only top scorer was f.iqbal wth 25 Hampshire all out for 76 hamps manager was furious and was seen smashing the dressing room glass , and now has to front up to the Wccc office jury to decide the fate on the indecent behaviour

Hampshire realized that atleast they should bowl extremely well , so that even if we lost atleast we dont lose by 9 wickets to bring our morales down

Hampshire isint weak in the bowling department , with C.Tremlett having a good season last year and backed up by J.Dawes, N.Johnson and this years new trade M.Sigera, what hampshire lacked last year was a quality spinner though , they made up for that by picking up Superstar spinner S.Macgill who had bowled awesome for NSW and was the start of the VB cups.. etc ,

Glamorgan lost wickets at quick intervals and in the end got All Out for 66 Superb bowling by S.Macgill !!! S MacGill taking 4 wickets for 7 runs in 3 overs !! and C.Tremlett taking 4 wickets for 15 runs in 5 overs and 1 maidens..Tremlett earlier added 16 runs- the 2nd highest scorer for hampshire in the game ...

Hampshire winning by 14 runs , a win to start the season ! :D

Karnataka take WP to the Cleaners

Division 3 heavyweights Karnataka, had a practice session against challengers WP.
Both sides wanted to win this one badly, as both are fighting for promotion at the end of the season.
A Kale came out firing at the start taking dispatching both opening batsman and set the tone with his quickfire 19 off 9. From then on it was a process of Karantaka building an imposing score. The wheel's fell off in the middle stages when they stumbled to 5-99 with wickets in consecutive deliveries.
However then a wonderful stand between WP discard Graham Smith (62) and wicketkeeper T Naidu (75) and a handy 40 from A Jones allowed Karnataka to post a strong 290.
WP spinner G Yates was the only one to impress taking 3-40 from his 10 overs. The bowling however of the three front line quicks, Lee, Nelson and Hogg was very dissapointing with 170 being taken from there combined 29 overs.

290 was always going to be too much in these conditions for WP. When Mark Richardson went to K Ali's first ball for 0, it prompted a wonderful spell from the seamer who took 5-38 from 10. He was abley supported throughout however by all rounder A Jones who continues his impressive efforts from last year. The only positive for the WP side was an impressive 43 at better than a run a ball by debutant Rabbi Llewellyn and a corageous 31 by new wicketkeeper G Mail. WP were bundled out quickly in 25 overs for 127 which lead WP manager Ian Markus to say "this really wasn't the way we wanted to start. We knew Karnataka were a good side who are hard to beat anywhere, but to get beaten by this margin is shocking. We have to move on however and hopefully the side won't get too down for next week".

Blewett the hero

Much maligned draft pick Greg Blewett blasted Surrey to a massive win over last year's undefeated Division 3 Champions, Colts.

Colts were never really in the game, as superb tight bowling from last years heros Tudor (conceding 37 from his 10 overs) and Bicknell (1-34 from his allotment) restricted them to a meagre 234-4, thanks in the main to a composed 95* fron Singh (who used up too many balls in that knock) and a brutal 41* from Klusener.

The only dark spot was the top order not performing to their potential in this particular game, but from the moment Blewett came in at 41-4, the game was up. First he added 94 with fellow debutant Josemite Wilkes (newly christened before the game), before upping the tempo when captain Hollioake joined him, as the pair added an even 100 to cruise home with 9 overs to spare.

Blewett ended up 106 not out from just 79 balls, and a very deserved man of the match!

For Colts, Beasley and Hoggard performed reasonably, but Vaas was the stand out, delivering 7 overs for 63!

Dammit, gave Mashonaland too much credit!!

Mashonaland batted first on a hostile Goodyear Park track, and no one gave them a prayer of matching a strong Free State side.

The first wicket took just four balls to fall, Mike Burns (0) scooping the ball to Anand Yalvigi at mid-wicket. The Petal brothers looked like putting Mashonaland on the road to respectability until Andy (17) drove Santosh Vadeyaraj to Kosie Venter at cover. A change of bowling from Free State skipper William Deacon then worked wonders, with West Indian Lennox Cush removing Gary Lambert (3) and Gavin Rennie (0) in the space of three balls.

Dirk Viljoen and Tim Petal stabilised briefly, until young left-armer Charles van der Gucht deceived Viljoen (13) into standing on his own wickets. Craig Evans then missed van der Gucht's quicker ball and the following over, Jamie Hamblin trapped Tim Petal (17) LBW. Van der Gucht struck a third time shortly after, finding Ed Smith's (0) edge to give Boeta Dippenaar at slip an easy catch. Some tail-end hitting by Warren Wisneski (10*) wasn't enough to save Mashonaland's dignity as Hamblin struck twice in two balls, trapping Barney Rogers (4) LBW and seeing Ryan Cunningham (0) hole out to Santosh Vadeyaraj next ball.

67 all out was the final score, with Hamblin (3/4) and van der Gucht (3/23) doing most of the damage, but Cush (2/10), Pretorius (1/7) and Vadeyaraj (1/20) providing more than adequate support.

The testing pitch was supposed to make Free State's batsmen struggle, but South Africa A 'keeper Morne van Wyk (37*) and Boeta Dippenaar (29*) made light work of the total off just 58 balls as the hosts cruised to a ten wicket win.

Charles van der Gucht, on his Free State debut, was awarded man-of-the-match.

Free State's net run-rate is now 6.8-1.34 = +5.46 :D

The Queensland side started its campaign with an away win over the tournament favourites Mumbai. Mumbai batted first and couldn't get into gear. Darden with a quick 49 was the only batsman to shine as they were all out for 158. Hopes ripped through to take 4/35 with handy backup from Dawson 2/35.

The Qld openers put on 114 and the game was over. The middle order then collapsed a little but we were never going to lose. Hayden 85 and Maher 41 were the stars as Qld won by 4 wickets with 16 overs to spare.

The underrated Guyanan side had been practicing hard all week for their big match against the favourites to take the d5 one day trophy the ACT. The Guyanan team knew all alkong they were going to be the underdogs of devision 5 this season even though they have a lot of potential in the one day aspect.

Guyana were first to bat which would give ACT an advantage due to the warm conditions but the Guyanan team were used to this sort of thing. Guyana batted well from the start. The first wicket fell at 96 when sarwan got cought out and left Saravanan at the crease on 51. Guyanan's draft pick Cameron came to the crease and he and saravanan put on a 96 run partnership before saravanan was cought out by Hogg trying to go for a slog over cover. Saravanan scored 109 runs off just 83 balls in an excellent batting performance.

Kumar was next at the crease and he did not dissapoint either beggining a good innings with him hitting many ones and twos to rotate the strike effectively. Unfortunetly Cameron fell after getting his half century to a suspicious LBW decision. Parlane the man who Guyana had high hopes for was next in but after hitting a quick seven runs he was dissmissed lbw by Jeffery.

Morris was the next man in to join his former Mumbai team mate and now Guyanan team mate Kumar. The two put on a great partnership which saw them hitting a lot of runs off very few balls. Morris was eventually cought out on 57 off 42 balls. Martin was dissmissed for a golden duck being bowled by mann. Hitchcock then came in and hit 3 runs to finish the innings off. Kumar ended up getting 57 runs off 56 balls not out and with a little more strike he could have got a score in the hundreds.

S. Mann was the savoir for ACT in this case bagging 3 wickets which kept the guyanans down to a brilliant score of 6 for 330.

ACT's confidence was low as the two openers went out to the crease looking up at the scoreboard and the daunting 330 run total the Guyanan's had set.

Things changed however when the first wicket partnership was 152 when dawn got out for 75 off 64 balls. Southam knew he had a big job to do because now the ACT team were in with a chance. Unfortunetly whilst fielding Hettiarachi Guyana's best spinner pulled his shoulder quite badly and was unable to bowl which gave the SCT a bigger advantage ontop of that. The next wicket fell for 255 after a 103 run partnership. Maxwell got out on 129 by being cought by Kumar as he went for a cut shot which hit the edge.

The next few wickets fell relatively quickly but Jeffery and Dawson were able to add to the ACT's score with some quick runs. Jweffery was eventually cought out on 59 off 59 balls. Hanna's wicket fel quickly and the game was just about even again. Watson and Hatton had a hard job to do when they needed to get many runs off few overs. The two however were able to get the score to 6-333 off 49 overs with one over to spare.

In the ende ACT won the match with a brilliant second innings combined with the injury off Hettiarachi. The Guayanan team looked good in their first game and hopefully now the rest of the devision 5 squads will realise this team has a lot of potential. If they don't then the Guyanan team may get a few big wins. The guayanan crowd left the stands overwealmed by the amount of action they had seen today out in the middle and the quality of both teams.

Tasmania def. Auckland

After an average start to the season, Tasmania started its campaign for the one daytitle with a flier...

Scoring 3-272 off their 50 overs, with Evans, Rudolph and Midlane all scoring fifties. The Auckalnd side was in tatters having to use 7 bowlers.

Chasing the total started badly, with T Canning taking a wicket on his first ball of the season (1-2 off 1.1) and it never got better... Auckland bowled out for 1-39.

Tasmanian Pandas by 133 runs.

Surrey vs Colts

After winning the Toss new Colts skipper Mark Boucher decided that we would have a look at the supposedly good Surrey bowling attack. Tight bowling from Tudor and Bicknell helped restrict us to 4-234, Singh Held the innings together with a solid, but slow 95*(130) and a solid 41*(35) from klusener helped boost the score

despite the low score we were still confident of victory cause surrey have a pathetic batting lineup. this looked to be proven true when surrey were struggling at 4-43, Brown, Ward, mane and thorpe all out cheaply. fortunatley surrey had recruited Greg Blewett, the only batsmen ever able to tame the colts attack on more than one occasion (last season playing for somerset in 4 day he scored 2 enturies in one match). who combined josemite wilkes and adam hollioke to bo past our score with plenty of time tospare, new colts players G Shaw and K Vaas taking the bulk of punishment. alao in his first game for the colts Beasley bowled well taking 2/44, hoghgard bowled economically conceding only 31 runs from his 9 overs. Congrats to Marc and the surrey boys on a well deservd win. Colts players however are still baffled about how blewett scored at more than a run a ball for the first time in his career

Opening their new stadium 'City of Birmingham Stadium' (Original name :D ) things got off to a poor start as Warwickshire decided to bat on their new ground. Things went bad early as Anderson and ALi were dismissed early, leaving Warwickshire 2/6. Warwickshire young guns turned things around. The 3 debutaunts, Howarth 36 off 18, McDonald 43 off 72 and Hockley 68 off 87, all had impressive debuts.

These three carried the score through to 3/131 before things turned sour and the ****s rained down on Warwickshire. Anderson helped Worcestershire reduce Warwickshire to 198/8. Some big hitting from Adams (48*) and Kaneria (22) however gave the fans something to smile about as Warwickshire finished up on 247AO.

Hopes were high but the ****s were about to rain down on Mark Ealham. Gregson and Adams got things looking good reducing Worcestershire to 2/36. Enter Mark Ealham. Worcestershire toyed with this sorry bastard, slapping him for 72 runs in 7 overs. Because of this Worcestershire cruised home with 6 overs to spare. Chants such as 'Ealhams a Wanka' and 'Ealham you dick **** were heard'. The usually happy Warwickshire crowd, rained a shower of Coke bottles down Ealham. "He's had a really rough day. He now got a lot of work to do if he wants to win back the fans faith".

This is **** poor start for Warwickshire. Most would generally see Worcestershire as the weakest OD side in division three. However now I'm convinced its going to be a battle for Warwickshire to avoid the bottom two. "Staying afloat in division is the key now"

There's no supposedly about it - that attack was head and shoulders above anyone else last season.

ACT travelled to Guyana for the frist ever WCC game for both of these sides. Both 2 are expected to be right at the top come end of the season.
In warm conditions Guyana batted first and looked to be taking the 'nothing to loose approach'. The nothing to loose approach turned out to be a lie, as up to 5 balls were hit out of the ground and never retrieved.
Wests Indian test vice captain ramnaresh sarwan and former TN star Saravanan were sent out to open the innings. in a surprise move Spinner Matt Ramage was chosen to take up the attack with spear head Simon Mann. The two got Guyana off to a positive start with the 50 coming up in qucick time.
Sarwan raced to 39 before being caught by one of the all time greatest catches on the cricket field by Ben Southam.
Cameron strode to the crease with the score at 96/1, the debutant was looking for a good score to start his career in a positive way. He was dismissed 2 balls after reaching his half century, LBW to Mann, another 96 run stand with Saravanan.
soon after Saravanan brought up his ton, in fine fashion with a 6 over backward point.
the innings went a long nicely for Guyana and by the time their 50 overs was up they had compiled a massive 6/330, top scorers were Saravanan 109(83), Kumar 57(56), Morris 57(42), Sarwan 39(43). Mann with 3 and Part timer David Jeffrey with 2 were the only multiple wicket takers. Ramage the big dissapointment having 76 smashed from his 10 overs.
ACT had the daunting task of chasing 330 for victory and went out looking very positive, captain, Michael "Cracker" Dawn certainly when out and cracked them to all parts of the ground. smashing 75 from 64 balls his reputation in the World Club cricket is certainly growing. Under rated Batsman Sean Maxwell opened the innings with dawn and didnt let his side down. Scoring 128 off less than 100 balls in his Man of the match performance. At 3/297 the game looked over, but a couple of late wickets got Guyana back into a game they should never have lost. Shane Watson and mark Hatton cruised to victory with 6 balls to spare.
Top scorers for the ACT were Sean maxwell 128 (98), Michael dawn 75(64), Ben Southam 59 (59). Cameron with 2 wickets was the only Guyanan bowler to make the scoreboard attendant move to the wickets column more than once.
Jermaine Lawson struggled on and off the field, after going for 80 runs from 9 overs it is reported he was locked off the team bus. teams mates said he learnt a lot on his 7km walk back to the hotel.
In a big surprise both Brad Hogg and Shane Watson werent used as bowlers in the Guyanan innings, the matter is being looked at. ACT beat Guyana by 4 wickets in once of WCC's highest ever scoring one day games.
