This is what u betted.
$1500 on karnataka
$500 on western australia
$1500 on Mash
$1000 on karachi
and $500 on Free State

Karnataka won so a profit of $900.
WA lost so a loss of $500
Mash lost so a loss of $1500
Karachi won so a profit of $700
FS won(i am considering the first result) so a profit of $400.
So in the end there is no profit no loss.($900+$700+$400-$1500-$500)

are you taking into account the money he bet on the winners.
eg how can he only get $900 off Karn if he bet $1500. You cant lose money if you back a winner.

Its the profit on the bets he has put.The original money is intact.
Ok if you want to go other way round then here it is.

He had a total of $8650.
He betted on the following
$1500 on karnataka
$500 on western australia
$1500 on Mash
$1000 on karachi
and $500 on Free State

Total bets of $5000.
So now he has $3650(+$5000 which he betted).
Karnataka won so the total amount he gets back is $2400.
Karachi won so he gets $1700.
FS won so he gets $900.
But WA and Mash lost so $2000 is gone.
So now the amount is $3650+$2400+$1700+$900=$8650.
