Mashonaland name unchanged side

Andy Cameron, the Mashonaland firsts manager, announced yesterday after his 2nd XI secured victory that he would name an unchanged side for this round's encounter with Northerns.

"I don't see the need for change just yet. We were very unlucky to lose against Yorkshire, but hopefully we can move on from that and win this one. There have been a few little changes made in terms of batting order, but the same eleven players will be taking the field."

When asked about his team's prospects, Cameron was cautiously upbeat.

"There's no question that Northerns are a good one-day team. They have some of those players that can really shine and turn the game on it's heard. We feel, however, that we hold that trump card in terms of our spin attack, and hopefully Ben Joshi and Saqlain can put in some good performances for us. I know Saqlain's been very excited about not only captaining the one day team, but also being the most experienced bowler in the squad, and I'm confident that he can lead the bowling attack well."

Western Province Turmoil Ends Here: McNamara

WP Manager Jack McNamara has cried "Enough is enough", as the South African media circles around his new team. Since Markus' departure, the rumour mill has been rife with accusations of a lack of faith in the new manager from the Board of WP, after the decision to appoint the next coach was taken out of their hands as Markus anointed his successor.

"Look, the last two weeks have been pretty ugly - both the 1st and 2nd XIs having to forfeit at different stages. However, the ship has been cleaned up and hopefully it will be plain sailing from here."

WP, a team that traditionally concentrates on First Class Competition, is happy to experiment with its side as the year goes on and McNamara expects plenty of movement between the 1st and 2nd XI. "I see the OD side of things as a long term project, we're going to work out what sort of combinations work best for us."

However, this scribe notes that McNamara has chosen the exact same XI as what Markus named before the season as his best XI. Maybe far too much noise and not enough action from the new man in charge?

One change for the Comets

ACT Manager Simon Fitzsimmons has announced his side for this weeks One Day clash in Pakistan against Karachi. Rather surprisingly he has resisted big changes after their poor showing in round one. The only change is Indian born all rounder Ismail Tamhane who is out through injury and in comes Scottish bowling all rounder Ryan Watson. Both of these guys have long been considered four day specialists but Fitzsimmons has found a need for an extra bowler to bat in the number seven spot.

Watson's call up will come as a shock to many as his OD career doesnt make for great reading, ACT officials have pinpointed this as a real weakness in their side and for this season at least it will be patched up weekly. Watson who averages just over 20 with the bat and a rather modest 40 with the ball will mainly be expected to play a containing role, his fielding ability has come into it however, a brilliant fielder at backward point could give the Comets the edge in the field when you consider they already boast some fine fielders in Quin Riley and Benji Marshall.

Ryan Watson drafted into the Comets OD team

The full ACT line up is 1 Quin Riley 2 AB De Villiers (wk & vc) 3 Yashpal Singh 4 Alex Louden 5 Misbah Ul Haq 6 Owen Cardew (captain) 7 Ryan Watson 8 Benji Marshall 9 Dean Bent 10 Matt Ramage 11 Paul Marlowe

Yorkshire vs New South Wales

Yorkshire stick with winning side
Yorkshire manager Greg Thomas announced tonight that there would be only a batting position change to their team that beat Mashonaland in the last round.
"I feel there is no need to change a winning team. None of the guys have done anything to be dropped and it's only the second round. I am confident these guys can repeat their performance and beat New South Wales. Their ground conditions suit our spin orientated attack, so I think we're in with a good chance" he said tonight at the SCG, inspecting the pitch.
The only 'change' is the replacement of Wilden Cornwall at the top of the order. It seems Mr. Thomas has introduced a rotational policy at the top of the order.
"Wild scored only a handful of runs at the top position last week - but that's not the reason why I'm replacing him with (Anup) Dave. In my experience in the one day competition, the number one opening spot in all sides have been a bit cursed. Not to say there haven't been big scores at No. 1. Indeed, there have been a few centuries, but if you look into the archvies I'm sure you'll find theres a lot more low scores in the opening position than there should be. I think credit must be given to the bowlers who often strike very early in the WCC one day matches, and a lot of the bigger scores come from positions 3 and 4.
By promoting someone like Cornwall or Dave we can give guys down the order who have the ability to bat, a chance to bat, and get us off to a quick start.
Like Cornwall, Dave is no mug with the bat. He averages in the 30's and a quickfire 30 or 40 from him would really help the rest of the guys in the order."

Anup Dave will be opening the batting and taking wickets.

"Im really pleased to be given this opportunity" Dave said after training.
"I'm used to batting down the order and coming in late. This will be a good chance to get some quick runs under my belt for the side then hopefully go onto a bigger score" he beamed.

The Yorkshire First XI to play NSW at the SCG.
In batting order: A Dave, M Salman (wk), M Dawn (c), W Beasley, F Yashpal, R Kripal Singh, K Agnew, W Robertson, W Cornwall, D Gough, D Kaneria. 12th man: P Laker

Victoria have selected an unchanged side, but have modified our batting order. Promoting Anderson to opening, to ensure that everyone gets a bat this season. This batting rotation will happen through the season, and the playing group are comfortable with it.
Both Malinga and Guiness will be pushing for selection, if they perform well again this week in the 2s.

Free State have decided to name an unchanged XI. Bad performances though will result in players not being considered for the next roung. The Free State managemnet have stated that they expect a better perfomance from the team.

BARNES OUT
One change for QLD.

Queensland manager Daniel Smith declared one change today to the teams to face the Colts this weekend.

"We've given Phadkar a run in the seconds this week, with Tennison coming up from the seconds to the firsts." When quizzed about where Phadkar would bat, and just who would open the batting for the 2nds Smith had no hestitaion in putting his faith in Phadkar to open - "Look, he's a top batsman and has an aggressive frame of mind, I can see him doing well out of position. As for Tennison, he'll slot in at #3, and we believe he'll excel himself."

Karachi name unchanged lineups for both teams
Karachi 2nd XI manager Myles Hutchinson had the job of picking both teams this week, but it was a relatively easy task, with both the 1st and 2nd XI's naming unchanged teams. "Mat was away this week, so he left me in charge of the 1st XI for this round." He said, at Karachi's mid-week training session."Both teams had fairly large victories last week, and i felt there was no need to change a winning team." Karachie take on the ACT comets at home, later this week.

Lancashire Unchanged: Visitors in Drunken Controversy
Carpenter Slams Loose Morals and Poor Role Models

The news that Lancashire's OD side would go into the second one day match of the season unchanged was overshadowed by reports filtering out of Perth overnight. Trouble sparked as members of the Western Australian side were enjoying a rare night off, spending the evening, and the early hours of the morning at trendy nightspot 'The Ice Factory.' Onlookers said the incident started inside the night club as several WA players performed an impromtu striptease and danced on the bar. Following complaints from fellow revellers, the players were asked to leave. What caused the subsequent brawl is far from clear, but the police, and condemnation were swift in coming.

The brawl in full flow

Western Australia's premier Alan Carpenter was quick to make a statement, calling the players 'irresponsible' and accusing them of having 'weak morals.' Though rumours persisted that he was just annoyed at not getting an invite.

Alan Carpenter was scathing in his criticism

John Howard said he was dissapointed, but claimed the majority of the blame falls on reality tv programmes, and Big Brother in particular. "Here is a great
opportunity for a bit of self-regulation and get this stupid programme off the air," said Mr Howard. "It is just a question of good taste."

Howard blamed the 'Big Brother' effect.

Fortunately no charges were pressed so the team is free to leave for England, the bar owners perhaps placated by the vast quantities of Smirnoff Ice consumed by the players.

TN Unchanged

The Tamil Nadu team is unchanged from last week after a win against Surrey. TN play away this week against Victoria in what is expected to be a crucial game.

TN manager Andrew had the following to say, "Yeah I've named an unchanged team because I know we can actually play OD cricket. Unlike the Four Day form I'm expecting us to put in a decent effotr against our main rivals this season. We MUST win to make up for the absolutely disgraceful display of last week against ACT."

This seems like a do or die fixture for TN who really need to come up with a good win to keep their season on track against a demoralising defeat last week.
