Karachi once again showed their class in the best season ive been involved in at this club. Great bowling all round and especially to Sami with 8 wickets for the match. Also to all rounder W.Kaye for showing us what hes got to offer opening in the first dig with a very good 98. Almost cementing our spot in the top two know in both forms of the game.

Somerset enjoyed a win over WA to put them in the green with 3 wins and 2 losses this season. It was an unconvincing display, however, with WA allowed to come within a glimpse of triumph following a terrible second innings batting effort by the English team.

Batting first in a match they were expected to win, Somerset set about compiling a healthy, yet not brilliant total of 339. In form captain C Donald was the chief run maker, with a spirited knock before falling short of his century for 4 runs. Rizan did well for WA, with 4 wickets.

The reply from WA was, in short, nowhere near good enough. Despite the best and most determined efforts of Rikki Clarke (72) and Somerset layoff O Hayward (40), WA only managed 213. For Somerset, Collyer and Prasad bagged triplets, whilst Dhamika continued his run of form with an economical spell.

At this point it looked like the match was over, but the team that Somerset have loved for the past 2 seasons through trading created panic with an inspired bowling performance, routing their opponents for only 208. Jenkins was on fire with 4 timely wickets, ably supported by Sherbourne and Ferguson. YA Singh made a chirpy 63, and Donald again showed class with 56, but they were the only two who looked the part for Somerset.

Fortunately for Somerset, despite looking down the barrel of defeat, they had no cause for alarm. WA were only slightly better in their second innings then their first, and although a miraculous comeback looked a possibility at one stage, Somerset never had too many problems. For Somerset, it was again Prasad and Collyer who took charge, taking 4 and 3 wickets respectively.

All in all, good to have a win, but a shaky game there, MUST do better next round or i'm in for a loss.

Guyana trounce Mashonaland

Mashonaland came crashing back to earth thanks to a convincing beating by Guyana. Mashonaland manager Andyc had left out paceman Khan in favour of another batsman, and he soon regretted his decision as Guyana avenged their one-day loss last round.

Guyana won the toss and elected to bat, and it wasn't long before Ramanayake had opener Francis bowled for only two. Lewis soon joined Francis as Sami took his first of four wickets for the innings. It wasn't long before spinner and captain Mushtaq joined in the wickets, with Jayawardene caught in the slips for 15, and the score was 3/72. Meanwhile, opener Clarkson had been watchfully making his way to a half century, and he joined with Jenkins in a fifty run partnership before Clarkson was caught off Ramanyake, his 55 runs coming off 125 balls. Jenkins (85) and Veron (100) struck up a partnership of more than 100 runs, before Mushtaq's decision to bring on part-timer Durrant paid off, as Jenkins was clean bowled going for a big hoick. It wasn't long before Sami got rid of keeper AB de Villiers and Satti, and at 7/309, the first innings looked over. Engineer, however, had other ideas. Batting with Vernon, they made a fourty-run partnership before Sami uprooted Vernon's stumps just after he had reached triple figures. He went on to form another fourty run partnership, this time with Zulch (26*) before Mushtaq finally dimissed Engineer for a fine 41 runs, giving Guyana 401 in their first innings.

Mashonaland have struggled the whole season to find an opener to complement Waragoda, and Andyc thought Edmund Durrant might hold the key. He failed to impress, however, trapped in front by Clarkson for 23. Waragoda (86) and Eaton (50) forged a 100 run partnership until Zulch had Waragoda bowled, leaving the score on 2/155. What soon followed was a nightmare middle-order batting collapse. Ul-Haq soon was out for four, followed by Burns for 12 and Eaton soon followed, as did Arnold for 3, and the score was suddenly 6/203. Thanks to all-rounder Barney Rogers (43) and keeper Quentin Carver (32), the visitors were not completely done for. They put on a valuable fifty-seven runs before London had them both removed, and Mashonaland stumbled to 276 all out, with Clarkson and London both taking 3 wickets.

With a substantial lead of 125 runs, Guyana went into the second innings with little pressure, only needing to ensure that their trademark consistency troubles stayed away. Thankfully for the home crowd, they did. The first Guyana wicket, Clarkson, fell when the score was on 11, and the second at 194. Francis (85) and Lewis (93) defied the Mashonaland bowlers to ensure the game was theirs. After Francis finally holed-out to Durrant off Rogers, Lewis was soon after caught at bat-pad off Mushtaq without a change in the score. The two new batsmen, Jayawardene and Jenkins were quickly polished off by Mushtaq for sub-ten scores, but Vernon (31*) and de Villiers (30*) put in a fine partnership before Guyana declared on 274/5, with Mashonaland needing an even 400 to win.

Mashonaland got off to a terrible start, with an opener again falling cheaply. This time, however, it was Waragoda, bowled by a fine yorker from Engineer for one. Eaton (25) was again dismissed by Satti, Durrant (34) was soon out thanks to a London outswinger that caught the edge. Ul-Haq redeemed his first-innings 4 with a superb 82 under pressure, but the game continued to slip away from the visitors. Guyana could see this, with Burns (14) run-out going for a suicidal run. Arnold (16) and Rogers (0) were soon on their way, and at 6/149, Mashonaland's only hope was to salvage a draw. Keeper Carver (52) combined with Ul-Haq to try to save the match, but when London finally had Ul-Haq lbw, it was all over for the guests. After Mushtaq fell first ball, however, Ramanayake came out determined to claim a draw, his 28 runs coming off 72 deliveries. Unfortunately, niether Carver or Ramanayake could keep out the Guyana bowlers, and it was soon all over for the visitors, all out for 290, a loss of 109 runs.

In the post-match press conference, Mashonaland manager Andyc praised Guyana's efforts and gave a warning to his players, "Simply put, they outplayed us in every aspect. Their batting was a lot stronger than ours, as was their bowling. I'll have a talk to the selectors about the next game. The boys need to know that their are other players waiting to get into the team, and they need to play their best every game."

Guyana 401
Vernon 100, Jenkins 85, Clarkson 55
Sami 4/104, Ramanayake 3/85

Mashonaland 276
Waragoda 86, Eaton 50, Rogers 43
London 3/38, Clarkson 3/73

Guyana 274/5 dec.
Lewis 93, Francis 85, Vernon 31*
Mushtaq 3/55

Mashonaland 290
Ul-Haq 82, Carver 52, Durrant 34
London 3/53, Zulch 2/39

Guyana win by 109 runs

Glamorgan produce their best in innings defeat of Victoria

Glamorgan today lived up to their potential handing out a thrashing to struggling Victoria. The dragons trounced their opponents by a innings and 171. Victoria won the toss and elected to bat with Hussey and Schiller at the top of the order. Fazil and Agarkar bowled well together to get two top order wickets before Gordon came on and dismissed the other opener. Victoria were struggling at 3/58 and Strauss went for the kill. Sensing the pitch would take spin Yuvraj Cole was brought into the attack and had immediate success, ripping through the Victorian batting lineup to finish with career best figures of 7/30 and leaving Victoria in a heap who had collapsed to 114 all out.

Strauss' attacking captaincy was supported with the bat and he and Head got off to a good stand. Head fell and van Jaarsveld followed shortly after but Strauss didn't take a step backward. He batted cautiously with Dial and the pair put on 140 the third wicket. Dial fell one short of fifty but Strauss went on to hit the team's first century of the season. Chandana then battled hard and Victoria's lack of spin was showing as none of their medium pacers could produce the same results as Cole had earlier. Lewis bowled long spell but Chandana remained not out at the end as Glamorgan were bowled all out for 440.

Victoria needed 326 runs just to make Glamorgan bat again. Fazil lacked penetration and Strauss brought Bucknall on to join Agarkar. The pair ripped apart the top order and had Victoria at 4/54 and looking in terribly bad shape. Gordon got the wicket of Beasley and then the spinners came back on. Hero from the first innings Cole struck in his first over back and Chandana who didn't get a bowl in the first innings continued his consistent season taking two wickets as Victoria were all out for 155.

It was a huge turnaround for Glamorgan who suffered a humiliatin defeat in the CW Bar Cup at the hands of Tasmania. Today they all performed with stand out performances from Cole and Strauss as they charged to second on the four-day table.

Victoria 114 (Beasley 33, Cole 7/30)
Glamorgan 440 (Strauss 122, Chandana 76*)
Victoria 155 (Moss 31, Agarkar 3/29)

Smith and Roberts steal amazing win

A massive 252-run third wicket stand between Jack Smith and Zaheer Roberts powered Auckland to an entirely unlikely victory, as they chased a target of 419 in 116 overs. With keen bowling performances from Terbrugge (5/54) for Auckland, and Akram (4/77) and Rice (4/45) for Tasmania, the first innings cards read fairly evenly with just 4 runs between the teams.

It was the second time around that Midlane took hold of the game, though. Having registered a duck in the first innings, the opener lashed 16 fours in a knock of 179, with the second highest contribution being 53, from his fellow opener Rowell. Tasmania reached an impressive 414 all out, as Doshi took 4/73 for Auckland.

The massive Auckland chase started solidly, but nothing more, as Godwin (41) and Ali (26) added 61 for the first wicket. However, two quick strikes from Akram (2/105) put Tasmania in control at 88/2. Not to be denied, Jack Smith (130) classed his way to his 3rd hundred in 6 FC games this season, whilst he and Roberts (139) completely owned the Tasmanian attack.

When both batsmen were finally dismissed, the score read 373/4 and the impossible seemed nothing more than a cakewalk. Burley (29 not out) and Khurasiya (24 not out) ensured this to be the truth, presenting a stroll to the target.

Score Summary:

Tasmania 1st 267 ao
N Charlton 79, A Symonds 56 not out
H Terbrugge 5/60

Auckland 1st 263 ao
R Campbell 44, A Khurasiya/J Smith 40
M Rice 4/45, F Akram 4/77

Tasmania 2nd 414 ao
J Midlane 179, T Rowell 53
R Doshi 4/73

Auckland 2nd 419/4
Z Roberts 139, J Smith 130, K Godwin 41
F Akram 2/105

Result: Auckland won by 6 wickets
Man of the Match: J Smith (Auck)

Warwickshire have beaten Karnataka by 325 runs to go to the top division 2, four day. Warwickshire's depth certainly proved the difference, and now we should be able to charge onto the title from here.

In a match which at the start of the 4th day could have gone any of three ways, Auckland pulled through after a massive partnership between Smith and Roberts.

The pitch was flat, and Goodwin elected to have first use of it. Auckland seized the early initiative with Midlane gone for a duck. Tasmania progressed to 145-3 after some fluent batting by Nick Charlton, who was supported by Rowell, Banks and Goodwin, who really should have something from their starts. 2 wickets fell quickly, and Symonds and Sharma shared a partnership to take them to 226-6. Terbrugge had Sharma caught in the deep, and Canning cut the next ball straight to Smith at gulley. The hat-trick ball was unconvincingly dealt with by Rice, who was lucky not to chop the ball onto his own stumps. He fell next over, with keeper Rayn Campbell taking a simple catch. Hardwick and Akram didn't last long, leaving Symonds of 56 not out and Tasmania on 267 .Auckland's reply could have been a lot bigger. Most of their batsmen got starts, but couldn't carry them on. Rice and Akram took 4 wickets each, and Tasmania led by 4 runs.

Both teams had not made the most of the pitch in their first innings, but Tasmania made amends second time out. Both the openes reached fifty, until Rowell was trapped lbw by Doshi. Charlton and Banks both fell for single figures. Goodwin and Midlane then shared a cracking partnership of 67, with the former scoring 41 at a run a ball. After Goodwin was dismissed, Symonds and Midlane took Tasmania to 336-5. Symonds scored just 38 in a partnership of 133, as Midlane took the attack to the bowlers. He brought up his hundred with a lofted drive over extra cover, silencing those who had questioned his place in the team. He fell shortly after Symonds for a brilliant 179 to Doshi, who bowled well for his 4-79. Tasmania's tail took them to 414 all out with Plummer taking the last 2 wickets with consecutive balls, leaving him on a hat trick for his next game.

419 was a big ask for Auckland, even with the pitch still relatively flat. Akram took the wickets of the openers Godwin and Raja Ali to leave Auckland on 88-2. Smith and Roberts progressed to 129-2 at the end of the days play, with neither side really having any significant advantage. Tasmania bowled poorly on day 4. Smith and Roberts took advantage of this, scoring at nearly 4 an over in their mammoth partnership of 252. Both fell near the end of the innings, but the result was still inevitable, with Auckland winning by 6 wickets.

Tasmania First innings: 267 all out N Charlton 79, A Symonds 56*. H Terbrugge 5-60
Auckland First Innings: 263 all out Campbell 44, Smith & Khurasiya 40. Rice 4-45 Akram 4-77
Tasmania Second Innings: 414 all out, J Midlane 179, T Rowell 53, R Doshi 4-79.
Auckland Second Innings: 419-4, Roberts 139, Smith 130, Akram 2-105.

Manager's Comment: " I was disappointed to lose this obviously, especially considering the big target. The bowlers were good in the first innings and just seemed to lose it in the second, but credit to Smith and Roberts, they really took it away from us. We also showed that we can bat today, but the bowlers just couldn't back them up."

Man of the Match: J Smith.

Guyana Finally Find Consistency - but for how long?

Guyana exacted revenge on Mashonaland and went a long way to promotion in the process. Lead by rookie Vernon Guyana put too many runs on the board and the Guyana bowlers were able to put pressure on the Mashonaland batsman.

Guyana's first innings started in familiar fashion with early wickets, Francis (2), Lewis (11) and Jayawardne (15) all fell early. Another familiar story then followed with Jenkins again amongst the runs, he made 85 in an impressive partnership with Clarkson (55). He then combined with Vernon (100) in a 118 run partnership that set up the game for Guyana. With a late order revival Guyana passed 400 and went a long way towards victory.

No bowler stood out for Guyana, and a team effort saw Mashonaland fall for 276. Waradonga (86) and Eaton (50) were impressive early, however no-one made the big score needed. Spinners London (3-38) and Zulch (2-55) combined with allrounder Clarkson (3-73) to ravish the Mashonaland middle and lower orders.

Franics (85) reached his first half century in two seasons in four day cricket and combined with Lewis (93) to set up the game and eventual victory for Guyana. Once Jayawardne had enough runs and enough overs left, the declaration was set with Mashonaland needing exactly 400 to win.

It was too much, again Mashonaland had contributors, but nobody made the big score.London was again in the wickets and kept his name in front of selectors after some recent poor performances.

Guyana will want to beat the struggling Jamaica in be in full flight as they confront main contenders Free State in round seven.
