Tamil Nadu
Andrew Cloete has put together what is likely to be the best four day side in world club cricket history. As far as stats goes he had the best side at the start of the season, however question marks on their ability to play in division one still hung over them. at the halfway mark of the season they are the pace setters and look like the team to beat on the run home. The round two victory over rivals South Australia was their most impressive of the season, a six wicket win at Adelaide as put Tamil Nadu in the box seat to claim their first ever division one title. The individual performance of the season was in round four by middle order batsman D Cowe who picked himself up a pair of centuries in the 433 run win over Kent.
One Day cricket hasnt been as kind to the Indian based team. They see themselves languishing in the bottom two in division two and look in real trouble. A Big win in Round five over Yorkshire has silenced the critics for the time being. But they will definately be looking for some more committed performances in the coming weeks. The batting has looked quite solid for the most part, with Cowe and Martin scoring good centuries in recent weeks, however their inablity to take wickets has really cost them.

Watch out for: O Cardew, hes sure to come good eventually and a big second half of the season is a real possibility.
Predicted finish: Four Day: 1st One Day: 4th

Lancashire
Quiet achieving side who always fly under the radar under the later rounds of the competition. After a difficult end to the four day season last year Graham Banks has gotten his troops line back up for another strong campaign. After initially expected to struggle in the tough division one competition in four day they have played some decent cricket. Currently occupying a top two position and keeping much higher fancied opposition behind them they are shaping up as one of the surprise packets. Innings victories over Kent and Queensland have been very impressive performances from the side considered the best English team in WCC. Mongia, Fernando and Dean have formed a formiadable bowling line up which is proving hard to get on top of. Youngsters Aronstam, Yapp and Stanton continue to dominate with the bat.
Lancashire are part of the lottery which is division one in one day cricket. All six sides continue to bes consistently inconsistent. An impressive chase of 290 in round three against Karnataka has been the real highlight. Opening batsman Anderton making 174, by far their best individual performance of the season. The batting looks pretty good but the bowlers have been too expensive and the lack of exprience has really cost them in the tight games. A loss by 1 run in round four to SA could be the difference between relegation and a top 2 finish for them.

Watch Out for: K Dean, hes had a very good start to the season and could bowl them to a higher than expected finish.
Predicted finish: Four Day: 3rd One Day: 5th
Grading: B+

South Australia
WCC's highest profile team has had more than its fair share of ups and downs in season 6. There was a change of managers when Simon Fitzsimmons decided to move to ND, injuries to key players H Midlane and R Dravid and their cricket has suffered as a consequence. The Redbacks continue to sit within striking distance but certainly appear to lack that killer punch needed to crack the top 2. They certainly have the ability to get up there but they need their best players on the paddock. Midlane is the sides captain and best batsman and he need to score plenty of runs this season for them to be a chance. The bowlers look weak and lack penetration. Robben's 12 wicket haul against Surrey and Snow's 13 against Kent remain the sole shining lights in an otherwise uninspiring South Australia bowling attack. Rookie O Foot became the first player to score a double century on WCC debut in round one. He needs to rediscover that form for SA to move up the table.
One Day cricket could be the Redbacks best chance of silverware in Season six. On paper they are perhaps the strongest side and possibily the most well balanced. Midlane and Allen continue to score plenty in the top 3 and Nisar is the key all rounder in the middle order. The round four win over Lancashire could be a turning point in my opinion for a great end of the season. Axelby and Bandara will need to spin SA to victory in all their home games as well as getting some luck on the road.

Watch Out For: B Allen, after a season an a half of disapointments for him his head is on the chopping block. A player of his ability wont play this badly for this long again. A sense a few very big scores coming.
Predicted Finish: Four Day: 2nd One Day: 1st
Grading: C

Queensland
Performing as was expected at the start of the season. After winning into the division through a play off at the end of last year, this season was all about survival. They have few stars but play a good brand of cricket with few weaknesses. A Draw in their first game against the highly fancied Redbacks made people stand up and take notice straight away. Four batsmen made centuries in that match for Queensland and they all continue to impress with their ability, even if they struggle for runs. The bowlers need to perform for Queensland to stay up in four day. Evans, Salvi and Lawson all look at home in the top division, but all have a break in concentration at times, leading to big scores from their opposition. An impressive round three win over Surrey has seen them sit comfortably mid table for the time being. Theres every chance they could win enough games to stay there.
The Form one day side in the highly competitve division two. They were sent crashing back down to earth after a heavy round five loss, they remain one of the teams to beat. Their best win came in round one against what many people consisder the premier bowling attack in one day cricket. Victoria were unable to defend 306 and Queensland came through and won in great style. While they sit comfortablt atop the table there remain real problems with the side. The lack of top class batsman showed when they were bundled out for just 136 against Colts. It will be interesting to see how they finish up this season.

One to Watch: P Marsden, Queensland's best four day batsman already has a couple of centuries to this name this season. Hes by far their hhighest profile player and he needs to make a lot more runs.
Predicted Finish: Four Day 5th One Day: 3rd
Grading: A-

Kent
A fresh approach was taken by Kent earlier in the season when they decided to install a new manager. They have been quite disapointing however, this side has some really class batsmen and their bowlers are among the best in the game. They havereally been hurt by having an inexperiened manager in charge, but i feel the club will be better for it in the future. Tharmi certainly has a good chance of returning Kent to the good old days for this club, but they need to learn some discipline. With only one win so far this season they sit in the bottom two and will struggle to get out. The bowlers lead the way in the round two win over Queensland. All Rounder R Stratton took seven wickets in a staring role in what has been a somewhat disapointing campaign.
Kent currently sit 5th in the division one log jam that is the fifty over game. With two wins and three loses they certainly arent out of it, but its going to be a struggle if they dont win their next few games. The round four win over Warwickshire was their best effort of the season. C Mpofu took 5 wickets and A Dave took 4 in the easy victory. It again proves the bowlers need to stand up and be counted. Only French and Hemp look threatening with the bat, Both made good contributions in the win over SA.

One to Watch: T Hawkins, one of the all time leading wicket takers in FC history. I have high wraps on the bloke and he has the ability to bowl Kent ou of the relegation zone.
Predicted Finish: Four Day: 4th One Day: 6th

Surrey
How times have changed for this club. Since the departure of Marc Robbins the club has gone from runners up in season five to cellar dwellers in season 6. They arent in th position they find themselves in because of a lack of ability, but more a lack of confidence. I feel if they can crack it for a win soon there could be light at the end of the tunnel, but with some tough games coming up its going to be too little too late. Its hard to find a highlight for this club as its been very up and down. A good bowling performance in round one was followed up by some excellent batting in round two but poor bowling saw the suffer a heavy loss. Wth Guys like Panditt, Arlott and Denny in the side theres a chance they could win any game, but they will continue to struggle until they believe they can win. The bowling heavily relies on T Best. Hes a genuine wicket taker but has been short of a gallop this season and is really feeling the pressure as the leader of the bowling attack.
Surrey continue to languish down in division four in one day cricket and if they dont lift their game they could fall even further down the divisions. Jamee Gray has real ability as a manager, but i feel he wont be able to show his true potential until next season. He has inherited an unbalanced side really lacking in bowling ability. One day cricket has been dominated by the bowling heavy sides this season Surrey have very little chance of surviving division four with this attack. The round two win over Mumbai was their best win in either form of the game, but with Mumbai struggling like they are, anything but a convincing win would have been unacceptable. J Arlott scored a good hundred in that game, this remains their only outstanding individual performance of season six so far.

One to Watch: W Denny, one of their star batsman has had a reasonable season, but he needs to lift his game like the rest of the team for Surey to be a chance in either form.

Karnataka
After being relegated from division one last season it would have been easy to say they were a spent force. Hakon Mork took got them into a good position in both forms and then left for greener pastures in South Australia, the new manager has continued the success for the team and they are positioned well in Four Day cricket. Initially expected to struggle against the big name teams in the division they have held their own and have pulled off three impressive wins. A hundred from S Borde in round two lead to a great win against heavyweights Hampshire. Engineer and Liyanage also contributed with the ball in the big win. K Ali long regarded a one day specialist has also lifted his game this season bowling several important spells. Theres no doubt in my mind that these three guys need to continue to take plenty of wickets for Karnataka to stay at the top of the division two table.
The impressive season by this mob also extends to one day cricket. They still occupy a spot in division one, but theres every chance that could end this season. They in fact sit in first place, but one loss could send them straight back down the table. They have had some great wins including the six wicket victory over SA in round five. Ali, Maxwell, Wadekar, A Jones, there's plenty of stars in this line up and we could see some more great wins before this season out. They are no doubt a hit or miss team, They will either beat you comfortably or they will fall in a heap and fail miserably. One of the most entertaining sides in the competition and i will be following their progress closely over the next few weeks.

One to Watch: S Maxwell, leading wcc four day run scorer. The heart and soul of this team and their results lay heavily on his bat. If he continues his good season they could end up with two bits of silverware.
Predicted Finish: Four Day: 3rd One Day: 3rd
Grading: A

Warwickshire
A two and two record this season looks unimpressive for this quality side, but their two wins have been very very big. Their 24 bonus points mean they site above WP on the table despite winning a game less. Things didnt start well for Warwicks. The round one grudge match against Western Province was quite an ugly affair for them, their highly rated bowlers failed to deliver and the match was over before their world class middle order could do any damage with the bat. Dropping 12 points to their rivals in round one would have really hurt manager Kurt Christensen but they have hit back quite well since then. Mumbai felt the full brunt of Warwicks anger in round two and Howarth and Bradshaw smashed hundreds. The Bowlers again looked threatening and Warwicks appeared to be back to the side of season five.
Warwicks have been the surprise packes of one day in division one. Getting their first taste of action in the elite competition they have looked right at home and could have a say in the final outcome despite initial worries from the manager before the season. Bowling SA out for under 130 defending a small total in round 2 was their biggest win of the season, rookie G Rigby has looked the most likely of all the bowlers and this match was no different as he took five wickets.

One to Watch: D Howarth, The star of the side, possibly the best in WCC, has only made one or two contributions this season, but will make plenty more and will win some games for his side in the process.
Predicted Finish: Four Day: 1st One Day: 2nd
Grading: B

Western Province
One of my favourite teams. Have a great manager and some real world class players. One would suspect this will be their last season in diviion two for a long long time. They started in great style by hammering Warwicks. Despite winning most of their games they have looked unimpressive at times. The narrow loss in round three against Karnataka was very unlike Western Province. Its no coincidence that Funston failed to rack up the runs in their only loss and he is shaping up as a key man in the run home. The bowling is nowhere near as potent as the batting. Still relatively young N Kumble has the task of leading the attack, hes done a more than reasonable job but has struggled to get much support. Samaraweera is also doing a fair job as the all roudner. Funston's 129 against Yorkshire in trying conditions was one of the best innings played in WCC this season, his 170 in round one wasnt far behind.
We are finally seeing some results in one day for WP this season, even if it is in division 5. After less than acceptable results last season they have managed three wins from their five games and remain in the hunt to win the title. Birch's 107 in round two against ND got them to a 2 and 0 record and setting up their season. Ive pinpointed this as the most important innings of their season to date. They lack the skills of a Karachi in one day cricket, but great individual performances could be enough to secure a top two spot. A poor chase in round four against Guyana as the chance to ruin their season, but I think they will be too good to let that haunt them and they will come through and put up a good end of season performance.

One to Watch: F Funston, long underrated by yours trully. He's come out and really hurt some attacks this season, while hes not the absolute centrepiece of their batting line up, his performances certainly dictate the overall results of WP.
Predicted Finish: Four Day: 2nd One Day: 2nd
Grading: B-

Hampshire
One of the more under rated sides in the competition. Probably dont get the results the squad is capable of. Under one of the longest serving managers Rueben Verghese they have climbed their way up to division two contenders. They have real stars with both the bat and ball. For some unknown reason they struggle to win tight matches against other top teams. Perhaps this could all be changing after their impressive round four win against Warwicks. After making only 220 they bowled their way to victory against the top notch Warwicks batting line up. Best and the Gamage boys combine to form a leathal bowling attack, these three take nearlly all the wickets every week and are among the best in the trade. Rookie E Drake has shouldered much of the responsiblity in the batting line up this season, captain I Ul Haq's form has been the most worrying aspect and he needs to sort out his problLems if Hampshire are to challenge.
Like First Class they have managed to get to a division with sides that just have more quality in one day cricket. You wouldnt class the Hampshire line up as poor, they even have one of the best keeper/batsman in Thomas, but they are simply being outplayed by better teams every round. Having said that it cant be expected that this side will have just one win this season. They have underperformed in matches they could have won and if they dont improve, its bye bye from division three. The round five flogging they got from ACT will hurt them, a loss like that will be tough to get over and with hard matches coming up it seems their only chance of survival is a play off against a side from division four. Their sole win for the season was a last ball win against bottom placed WA, Drake proved hes one for the future with a great ton, id be guessing he will be looking for a move to a higher profile team for season seven.

One to Watch: T Thomas, One day keeper/batsman has real ability in both parts of the game. In my opinion one of the great all rounders in one day cricket and hes about Hamps only chance of survival.
Predicted Finish: Four Day: 4th One Day: 5th

Yorkshire
Yet another manager has taken charge of them in recent weeks. Its hard to say what was expected from them this season after they over achieved for so long. Theres plenty of ability in the side but they seem to lack that X factor. They can be brilliant one week, as showin in their massive innings victory over Hampshire or they can be horribly poor as we saw in recent one day games, particularly the loss in the cup first round. W Tendulkar is a top notch batsman whos being doing it for years, Simpson a quality all rounder whos in his last WCC season and Gough a tough nut from way back. They have the potential to be up there with the very best, but i feel they are still feeling the effects of being relegated from division one after being up there for so many years. New manager Greg Thomas is one of the most exciting coaches come through the ranks in a long time, Yorks have a career coach here and I just hope the current crop of players can save his division two status for the rest of this season.
One day has been quite successful thus far. They sit above TN and Auckland at this stage but theres still a long way to go. I consider them more of a Four day side, so its going to be tough to get out of this one day scrap. The best of their two wins came away at Auckland in round one when they chased a moderate 240 with Hemp scoring a good hundred. Things havent been quite the same them though, only managing one win from four matches. Nazir is another bowler who has the ability to keep them up with the front runners, but like his team mates he doesnt perform well enough at the essential times to really turn Yorkshire into a world class team. Good luck to them because it could be a tough end of the season

One to Watch: W Tendulkar, Hes been at the club for a long time now and enjoyed some real highs, unfortunately hes seeing the lowest point in the teams history, he has the ability to be the one to turn it around, im not sure if he will, but he needs to score a handful of centuries in the last 5 rounds.
Predicted Finish: Four Day: 5th One Day: 6th

Mumbai
How tims have changed, once the toast of the WCC community they have almost been reduced to a laughing stock. Its not for a lack of trying from their many managers though. Things just havent gone right since season three for them, their lack of top notch rookies has hurt them, while rival countrymen Tamil Nadu have brought in the youngsters at a rate of knots. Having failed to win a game this season its hard to find any positives. They did take WP all the way in round four, losing by just two runs. Their batting looks reasonable with experienced heads like Patel and Tendulkar up there as well as youngsters Clarke and Owen. Its easy to say the season is over for them, however it only needs a win or two to have the pressure back on the sides in front of them, while I admit all seems lost, its not over till its over.
One day cricket has been a little more enjoyable for the Indians. Three wins and two loses is enough to have them sit 3rd. They have played some wonderfully entertaining cricket and are by no means out of the chase for a top two finish. The huge round four win over Somerset was highlight of the campaign so far, chasing 337 in 46 overs could go down as the best win of any team this season. Roth and Tendulkar showing their quality by scoring hundreds. The one side also includes hot shots like A Flintoff and Y Hills who are among the best in he business.

One to Watch: W Adhikri, one of the stars of the season 5 academy series has impressed many with his talent without making the huge scores. Hes still young so I wouldnt be pushing the panic button yet. Hes got the quality to be a future star for this team.

ACT
Without out the best up and coming team in WCC. Since their addition in season three its been nothing but success for this side. Under manager Brendon Goff they have built a formidable team of rookies and experienced superstars. Four wins from four games to start the season was hardly unexpected for this team. Rookie K Agnew is an exciting prospect as is second year player F Platt. Former captain M Dawn hasnt lost any of his touch that saw him become one of the premier batsmen in the competition. The crunch match so far was against Somerset, ACT struggled early on but fought back to win by 70 runs, the great advantage of this team is their ability with bat and ball. On the rare occasions the batsmen dont put it together the bowlers can be relied upon to get them out of trouble. Laker's seven wicket haul in that match against Somerset was the difference between the two sides in the end. Platt's 124 in round one against NSW was the highlight with the bat so far.
Its been smooth sailing in one day cricket for ACT too. Five wins in a row, and no signs of letting up. Three scores over 300 batting first has been the real highlight for them so far. Back to back hundreds from WCC's best all rounder A Tweedie delighted the Canberra crowds early in the season, add to that Agnew's maiden century and Dawn's solid innings it makes for an almost unbeatable team. Ramage continues to spin teams out and at a very economical rate. Its hard to see anyone toppling them in season six and i can already hear division two calling. If anything could bring their downfall its the absence of their manager until late into the season, however by the time he returns promotion celebrations could be well underway.

One to Watch: F Platt: Young batsman with plenty of potential. Not as well known as batsman in the higher divisions but hes certainly just as talented. Has already made some very good scores in the opening rounds and i wouldnt be surprised to see some big centuries in the coming weeks.
Predicted Finish: Four Day: 1st One Day: 1st
Grading: A+

Worcestershire
Currently doing well to sit second on the division three table. Playing some good cricket, highlighted by middle order star A Lovell. Hes already amassed over 500 runs and is odds on to be the first Worcestershire batsman to topple the 1000 runs in a season mark. Its fair to say they are overachieving at this stage of the season, but their manager has done a top job to get them to this position. They only sit 13 points above fifth position so i dont think anyone is about to start celebrating yet. The big round three win at the SCG was something to behold. Lovell the star with a very big double century, I Cook has lead the bowling all season with some good performances and this match was no different, he took 7 wickets and followed it up in round four with 11 more. Their four day performanes were largely unexpected, however their loss to Western Australia could come back to haunt them and im not sure just how they're gonna end up.
Their one day performances have been up and down. In a season where a few wins in a row could set up a great position, like so many others they have struggled for consistentcy. They currently sit at two wins and three loses but in a reasonable 4th position. It's not looking all that rosy for them though, i see them battling with Hampshire for that all important 4th spot, by the end of the season it may well come down to net run rate. Their most impressive win of the season was against their great rivals Hampshire, chasing 270 brilliantly in round one. The real strength of the side was visible right then, as all members of the top four scored important fifties. Its hard to see Worcestershire challenging for higher honours this year and should be happy surviving relegation.

One to Watch: A Lovell, is a real chance of being one of the leading runscorer in wcc this year. His performances have carried the team this season and he will certainly need to continue.
Predicted Finish: Four Day: 4th One Day: 4th
Grading: B

Somerset
Much is expected of Somerset under manager Guy Kerridge. It's fair to say they belong in a league than division three. BUt they are making tough work of it this season. They are currently involved in a tough scrap for that second position behind ACT. It would be a great achievement for this club to get two consecutive promotions, however theres still a long way to go. Sitting at two and two they need to win four more games to finish where they want to be. They are another side who have few stars, partly owing to retirements they suffered last season, but they all combine well to win more games than they lose generally. C Donald is a world class batsman whos been long under rated, even by his current manager at times, now the captain of the side hes been a shining light in the batting line up with good support coming from Youhanna and Fry at times. Its hard to pinpoint the ways they can possibly overtake ACT on the run home, however i feel they have enough quality to be in division two in season seven.
They have done their thing quietly in one day this season. Out of the lime light in division four they are developing a quality cricket team. Theres no doubt their performances will come as a shock to many people, but under one of the best managers in the game they will be a force in both forms for seasons to come. I look to their round two win against Glamorgan as the start of an era for them. We've all known for a long time that this team can score runs, however the carnage in Wales that day was evident to anyone. Dhamika taking 6/9 as Glamorgan were out for just 85. If that wasnt enough, a classy performance against Jamaica saw them restrict the visitors to just 221 from fifty overs. Sitting second currently theres little doubt they will occupy a top two finish come seasons end, it will just be a matter of what position they finish.

One to Watch: D Prasad, A quality fast bowler who doesnt get the wraps he deserves. Taking plenty of wickets this season after somewhar underpar performances in season five. I thin this man holds the key to their run home.
Predicted Finish: Four Day: 2nd One Day: 1st

New South Wales
Another former division heavyweight that has fallen on hard times. Its a little surprising they have fallen away like they have. Its not for a lack of good youngsters or poor management. My feelings are the all round capabilities of the team are just not good enough. While they have some top class players like your Shetty's, Moore's and Kallis' their mates tend to struggle and in my opinion some are below the standard required to play in the best WCC teams. This season some thought the blues were good things. They picked up good players in the draft and some wise trading ment they had eleven solid players. However they are currently part of the traffic jam mid table on 2 wins.
After coming runners up in the preimer one day competition last season, manager Rob Malone had high hopes of winning NSW's first wcc title in years. With new blood like Griffith leading the way they were rated some chance by most experts. However they have been unable to break away from the pack and sit 3rd on net run rate. The round two thrashing of last years champions Lancashire was most impressive. a big hundred from Shetty in that match has set the standard for nsw for the rest of this season. They appear to lack the quality to really challenge, but that has never stopped them in the past.

One to Watch: Q Moore, not half predictable! NSW rely on him more than any other team relies on a single player in wcc. the best bowler in the whole competition, only in his second season he continues to amaze with his stats. A future great.
Predicted Finish: Four Day: 3rd One Day: 4th

Western Australia
Another of the sides that can barely remember the glory days. Once the toast of the WCC community the names like Martyn, Gilchrist and Langer are long gone. However a new bread of stars like Jenkins, Hayward and Ferguson are starting to put it togethe. You can look at the table and say they're coming fifth, obviously struggling. But i think theres a real future for this club. Sure they might get relegated but i think theres more good days than bad ones coming up. I know they've only won one match this year but the quality of that win over Worcestershire shows what they are capable of. The batting appears a bit weak, but i rate their bowling attack as one of the best in WCC. Jekins eleven wicket haul in that game shows what he can do. Former Kent and SA fast bowler K Ferguson alo have the ability to destroy attacks. This season isnt over and they can still achieve plenty, but they definately are putting together a team for the future.
Five loses in five games doesnt make for good reading if you're a WA fan. The bowling funnily enough hasnt been able to convert their four day form into one day. The batting likes vulnerable and seem to get bogged down in tight situations. They achieved a new low in round five against Free State whe they were bowled out for just 67. The lowest score in the clubs history. While i see hope in the four day side, the one day team has a long long way to go before i tip them to even win a chook raffle.

One to Watch: H Jenkins, the talented fast bowler has been the outstandnig performer for WA this season. While his mates have failed to impress he has really stood up. If the rest of the team take a leaf out of his book they may finish better than where they are set to.
Predicted Finish: Four Day: 6th One Day: 6th

Canterbury
For mine they are definately the most under achieving side this season. Quality just doesnt describe this team yet they have managed just one win. After some impressive seasons in the lower divisions i was hoping for more from them, but they hae failed to deliver. The star is definately O Clarke, hes struggled at times and its no coincidence that Canterbury lose when he doesnt bowl well. You dont have to be a genuis to find out whats wrong with them this season, just look to the fact not one of their batsmen has managed to score a century. The bowlers have restricted the scoring at times, but give their players the bat and they run for the hills. Only K Mills and P Jaques can be moderately happy with their contribtuions.
Their one day form hasnt been much better. They have managed two wins but they have been largely unimpressive. I thought their round four win against Surrey would have been enough ti lift spirits and see them move up the table. However they feel back into their old habits and fell aprt again. That round four match was highlighted by 89 from Williams and four wickets from Tully. But no doubt their star has been Chopra. After making back to back 160's hes caught the attention of the higher clubs and he could be one for the future.

One to Watch: O Clarke, without doubt the key to this team. They play their best when hes in form and I think they have a real chance of avoiding relegation if he fires. BUt given hes recent inconsistentcy i wouldnt be putting any of the hard earned on it.

Karachi
Manager David Kearlsey is no doubt one of the best in the business. He's taken the one time strugglers into a major force. The days of this club struggling around in the lower divisions look set to end. With the additions of star players M Manhus, B Matthie and P Saradesi they have a set of core players that will carry them for seasons to come. Fast bowler M Sami is another that has been here through the hard times and theres few players in WCC who deserve a shot in the higher divisions more than he does. Four wins in four games this season mean they sit atop the division four table. Their wins have been convincing and entertaining, but none more so than their round two victory over Victoria. Mishra, Sami and Matthie were all among the wickets as B Khan scored his first ever wcc century. Such a comprehensive win over one of the divisions best sides sent chills down the spine of opposition managers. This is one team that sides like TN, SA and Warwicks will be looking of their shoulder at.
All was looking good in the shorter version for Karachi until round four when they were downed by lowly Tasmania. However things turned around their fifth match when they put ND to sword by scoring over 350. Opener M Manhus continued his impressive season by smashing 171. As much as you have to admire the batting ability of this entertaining outfit their bowling in one day cricket leaves a lot be desired. Despite making that huge total against ND they allowed their oppoisition to score 313. Their lack of bowling is highlighted by the fact only six wickets have been taken in their last two one day games, time will tell if this comes back to haunt them at seasons end.

One to Watch: M Manhus, one of the best batsman in the lower divisions certainly has been in good form lately. He'll need to continue his one day form in particular, if he does i dont think theres any reason for Karachi to miss out on both one day and four day titles.

Tasmania
Long time WCC strugglers. Despite never reaching any great heights its fair to say they've done well stay out of the bottom division. Currently sitting second in division four they are primed for a big end of the season and give their suffering fans some joy. Part of the log jam mid table they have won two games and lost two. The best of those wins was against Colts in round two. After restricting the Colts talented batting line up to a low score the Tasmanian batsman hit full flight and had secured a good win by the time the first innings was over. Former Warwickshire batsman T Rowell has looked the goods again this year and is one of the leaders of the batting line up. Rookie bowler U Sammels has added some much needed spark to the bowling, his stats have been impressive for a youngster and its hard to ask much more from him. His efforts peaked against Glamorgan when he took eight wickets, including six in the second innings. While being light on stars they have a solid line up and every contributes, they could be a darkhorse for this years title.
Many people expected Tasmania to struggle in one day cricket this season, however in several short weeks the proved the critics wrong. Wins over Tasmania, Mashonaland and ND have shown they are the real deal this season. Young bowlers Bradley and Sammels have stood up and bowled them to victory on a number of occasions already. The batting hasnt had to do a lot in the matches they have won, a Rowell century against Karachi was the stand out performance, hes been well supported all season by veteran M Goodwin. This season isnt even close to over so theres plenty of time for their season to fall off the rails or even improve. Im predicting a rough end of the season as the team is putting the faith in a number of rookies, this isnt their year but who knows that season seven will bring.

One to Watch: U Sammels, young bowler who was another star of last years academy series. Hes stepped up into WCC and bowled like a guy whos been doing it all his life. He should be the centrepiece of the Tasmanian team for years to come, if they can keep hold of him he and the club has a bright future.

Glamorgan
Its easy to be negative about Glamorgan. They've had more managers than any team in WCC history and have always lacked stability, so its no surprise they continue to languish in the lower division. The old saying "Not everyone can win" is appropriate for this team, they dont win a lot of matches, nor do they challenge for the end of season spoils, but they try hard, so im delighted to see them currently sitting third on the table. I cant see it lasting too much longer, but theres no denying their start to the season has been unexpected. Their only star in the batting line up is A Strauss, he was the major factor in their only win on the pitch this season as he scored un anbeaten 90 in the win over Colts. Glamorgan's other four day win this season came courtesy of a forfeit against Auckland. With young players Dial and Cole in the team they are capable of putting in a good show against most teams, however winnnig too many games this season is out of question im afraid.
One day cricket has seen nothing but disapointments for this season. Five straight losses and things dont appear to be on the improve. Bowler S Gill whos in his second season at the club has tried hard all season and is by far their most accomplished one day cricketer. His 3/39 in the loss to Canterbury and his 2/20 against Somerset proves hes not giving up yet. Its unfortunate hes had very little support from the rest of the team. To say the batting looks pedestrian is a compliment, there simply isnt any emphasis on attack and the team at times like happy enough just to get close. Things wont improve this season and next season could be tough unless manager James Steadman starts to get things right now.

One to Watch: T Bucknall, genuine all rounder in the longer version. He's had quite a poor season so far but i sense a turn around. Four day will Glamorgan's fans only chance to cheer over the next three months, who knows what could happen if Bucknall fires.

Victoria
One of the more bizare teams in WCC. Manager Stephen Pearson has maintained a squad largely of Victorians. In a way you could say thats stopped them movign up the divisions in four day. This season they have played some good cricket and had some unexpected results, but theres much more potential in this team to be sitting fourth in division four. With two wins and a draw they shouldnt be too disapointed so far. Both the batting and the bowling has fired at different times, in the draw against Auckland M Elliott smashed a great hundred, which may be the last for the great batsman. On the other hand Harwood has destroyed Tasmania, Colts and Karachi in successive games to prove that if this side puts it all together in one match theres few teams who could knock them off. His twelve wicket haul against Tasmania was one of the most impressive individual performances of the season and the big fast bowler has plenty of batsman in all divisions running scared.
Their one day performances over the years have been a lot more impressive than they have in the longer version. After the thrill of being in division one last year they find themselves back nar the top of the division two table once again. They have been quite brilliant at times, including a big win over Tamil Nadu in good conditions. Their bowling is certainly one of the stronger aspects of their game. Moss, I Harvey and Harwood all do a job for the Vics and are the talk of the WCC community at the moment. Harwood's seven wicket demolition of Colts was one of the more remarkable bowling performances in WCC. The highly rated Asian side were bundled out for only 68 in what can only be described as breathtaking. Beasley has been a standout in the batting line up headlined by his 79 against Yorkshire. M Kaif was also looking the goods before his injury ruled him out long term.

One to watch: S Harwood, the first bowler to take 200 wcc wickets, his form is better than ever and is the key for Victoria's charge towards both titles. If he falls away at all you can say goodbye to Victoria's season.

Auckland
One of the more disapointing sides of the season. Have plenty of young stars and have performed brilliantly over the past few years, unfortunately for them this competition has been a nightmare. A forfei against Glamorgan cost them a net second position. They are definately within striking distace but they just seem to be missing something. Captain J Smith has continued to perform even when his team mates havent, J Godwin and Raja Ali at the top have set the platform quite well and with Smith coming in at three they have had more than one acceptable start. However the middle order just hasnt done the job and coach Liam Camps must be mightily concerned. Godwin, just one of two players to hit centuries in each innings of a match this season took on the Victorian bowlers in round four as he smashed his way to 114 and 104. Tudor is leading the attack without much success, its been noted in recent weeks that the lack of performances from all rounders Plummer and Kemp have really hurt the side, Auckland should be entitled to think they will get more out of the pair of them in coming rounds.
After three consecutive promotions in the last few years high hopes were held for this season. Unlucky for them they have hit the brick wall of the division two. Without doubt the strongest one day competition this season they just havent had the performances required to play at this level. Only one win in five games is probably a couple of wins from where they expected to be at this stage. They havent been completely disgraced, a good performance at highflyers Queensland probably showed what they are capable of. Roberts comes into his own in the one day game and he forms a leathal opening combination with keeper J Senior. However one has to question the wisdom of the decision to keep Smith down the order, hes their best batsman and in my opinion he needs to bat three.

One to Watch: J Smith, hes made plenty of runs already but hopefully for Liam and the boys in Auckland theres a lot more to come, because hes gonna need it. He's part of a very good top three that will the Kiwi side out of danger in four day, but one day survival could be asking too much.

Colts
Nothing short of abismal can describe their four day campaign so far. Its well known just how much emphasis manager Andrew Garven placed on one day cricket this season but their performances in the longer version have been disgraceful. They still have a talented crop of batsmen starting with superstar T Darden. Other capable players include Butt and keeper Prosser. But their bowling has been poor to say the least. Only managing to take three bowling points has been their downfall. The only match points they have managed to pick up were in a disapointing draw with Auckland in round one. Three straight losses have followed since then. Disapointingly theres been few performances of note for the side, in the narrow loss to Victoria Razzaq played a fine all rounder match scoring a fifty and taking a bag full of wickets, however not much else has followed from him or his team mates. A pair of hundreds from Troughton and Darden in round four gave the fans something to cheer about, but the match was over as Colts were following on. The end of the season cant come fast enough for this team.
One Day cricket has been a completely different story as the stridetowards relegation. Its as if they dont even bother to train before First Class games but they are deadly serious come time for pyjama cricket. Three wins from five games seems reasonable enough, but given the recruitment drive in the off season nothing short of five wins was acceptable in my books. They have had some outstanding wins but some terrible losses, capped by the disaster against Victoria. Centuires from Butt and Madanagopal as well as four wickets to young quickie B Edwards in round five against Queensland has been the top performance so far. It should release some pressure off these guys as they attempt to win the title and move into division one. If they fail in their stride towards the top of the table it will be classed as a failure of a season, something i know the manager isnt keen on.

One to Watch: T Darden, batting down the order this season hes played ok. Not even the great man himself can save their four day campaign but im sure hes still got some things to achieve on a personal level.

Guyana
Recently moved to the top of the four day table after an indifferent start to the season. On paper they are without doubt the most talented side in the division and in all reality shouldnt have too many problems winning the title. But trouble seems to follow manager Kyle Wrigt like a bad smell. Not through any fault of his own hes had some tough injury problems and then the added bonus of under performing stars, but through all the troubles hes managed to get his side to the top of the table. The massive round one win in which Jayawardene and Jenkins made double hundreds got his season underway on a positive note, its was widely accepted that Guyana would steamroll their way through, but somewhere along the line, including a terrible loss to Free State things just havent gone the right way. Two wins since that loss have moved this side up the table where they will stay for the rest of the season.
Everyone loves the fun of one day cricket, except Guyana that is. How this team is still in division five is anyones guess. Unfortunately for them they will be spending another season there next year. A costly tie against ND will cost them come seasons end, but you would think think that if you tie with Northern Districts you probably dont deserve promotion anyway. D Zulch has been a handy pick up for Guyana, his 5/42 against Tasmania won them the match and hes definately one for the future. The batting has been quite solid without setting the world on fire, ill be expecting more from a fully fit J Jenkins over the next month or so.

One to Watch: Y Satti, Division five is full of great batsman, but a bowler this good cant be bought cheaply. Hes had an ok season, but bowling below his ability, i expect him to bowl Guyana to the division five four day title.

Free State
Long time one day speicialists finally have a four day side they can be proud of. Under the management of Dave Watt they have played some exceptionally good cricket in the four day game this season. The season couldnt have started any better for them after beating Mashonaland by an innings. We've seen good contributions from Ambrose, Iqbal and Halse with the bat and Bent, Ul Hasan and Iftikhar with the ball. Ul Hasan's seven wicket innings in that match against Mashonaland was the most impressive individual performance from a FS player this season. The emergence of D Hussey has been a welcome addition to the fragile middle order, hes hit some solid scores already and has attracted the attetion of bigger clubs, but i think Free State will be very keen to hold onto him.
Like four day they have quietly plodded along in one day, they have a very capable side who dont command much attention but play some cricket. Currently sitting second behind the all conquering ACT team they should beproid of their efforts this season. The only match they did lose was to the Comets, so they can safely say they are the best of the rest in division three. 63 from Hussey in round one set up their finest win of the season. Leicestershire were expected to win but the South African side proved they would be no push over and successfully chased 280 to win. Their round three win against Hampshire wasnt far behind, Arendse smashed 159 to set up the win and Free State were well placed at such an early stage of the season. Things continue to look good and they should push for futher honours this season an beyond.

One to Watch: D Hussey, first round draft pick for this season hasnt let anyone down. His performances will only improve and he has the ability to steer the side into a top two spot in both forms. I think the pressure of being such an important member of the side so early in his career will be too much.

Leicestershire
David Comley certainly has everyone in WCC talking about this team. While not as strong in four day yet there is plenty to work with. They have had a taste of leading the division already and its not beyong comprehension that they will find themselves in division four next year. The season started well when they easily beat ND to send them into the top three. The star has no doubt been J Wilkes whos scored two centuries with the best of them coming in the round two demolition of Jamaica. Leics won by an innings with Wilkes contributing 226 of them. While the batting looks very good the bowling doesnt. Apart from Gallage their attack looks terrible at the best of times and I can see this costing them big time this season. All rounders Bradshaw and Kingsley have done a reasonable job, but neither are front line bowlers capable of performing week in week out.
Leicestershire have long been one of the most under rated one day team despite having two of the best batsman. I Underwood and R Piggott are unrivaled in the shorter game and both have records which most people could dream about. Underwood started the season like a house on fire, scoring his 12th score in a row of fifty or above, his peaked with his 131 against Hampshire in round two. The form of the side overall has been quite good. They sit reasonably in third place and if they continue to perform theres no doubt they have the team to finish top two. The brave chase against ACT in round four proved that they are the real deal. Chasing 262 they were all out for 252, struggling Y Ogden managed his best performance of the season with an unbeaten 89. They certainly need him and the rest of the batting line up firing.

One to Watch: I Gallage, by far their best bowler, like most teams they have a talented batting line up but i think the bowling is a bit short of a gallop. Gallage is their only one with any real class and hes gonna have to take a lot of wickets to see Leics into a position they belong.

Mashonaland
Since joining WCC back in season three they have struggled to make an impact, they briefly enjoyed some time in division four but they are currently attempting to save their division five status. In Andy Cameron they have a manager of real class and certainly one that is capable of bringing them up the divisions. Its a shame for him that he doesnt have the squad at this stage to show us what hes capable of. Its all about survival for them and with the season half over they have done enough so far. A win and two draws in four games is enough to have them sitting fourth and with no signs of letting up it they may well finish in that fourth spot they need. Their big win in round four has given fans real hope for this season an beyond. WCC newcomers Waragoda and M Ul Haq showed their quality with big centuries in that match, but like most division five teams the bowling appears weak. In S Mushtaq they have one of the best spinners in the lower division and his performances in seasons gone show he still has what it takes.
Its much of the same in one day cricket for Mashonaland. They have already managed to put a three point gap on the bottom team which may be enough to see them miss automatic relegation. Theres many reasons to be negative about the one day side, the draft picks of this team concentrated on their four day team and the fifty over team has suffered because of it. The sole one day win showed just what they could be capable of, easily disposing of lowly ND. The 229 run total proved no total for Mashonaland as Petal and Arnold got amongst the runs. As usual Mushtaq lead the way with the ball as he took 3/37.

One to Watch: S Mushtaq, veteran spinner whos looking better every season. Always escapes the annual clean out at Mashonaland has taken plenty of wickets already, but he needs plenty more to give Mashonaland a chance of saving their division five status.

Northern Districts
Another of the teams onto their second manager of the season. Simon Fitzsimmons look control after 2 rounds and has already gotten the best out of his players. The highlight was the round four win over highflyers Free State. No one at ND is under any illusions about the goals for this season, avoid relegation in either form will be a bonus but doing it in four day is probably a little bit more realistic. The team in the longer version looks quite balanced and has two very good batsmen. In A Holland they have the best up and coming batsman in WCC, hes already managed over 600 runs, a mark no one else has yet to topple. The one win and a draw is an acceptable result thus far, this sees them equal on points with fourth place. The recent promotion in the batting order of B Perera already looks the goods, his one match at the top he managed a pair of fifties, it will be interesting to see if they have the ability in the squad to stay away from the bottom two.
One Day cricket has been an expected failure. Very few batsman have any ability but its just a chance for the younger guys. In the recent loss to Karachi, keeper L Reddy played well above his weight for a great hundred, captain G Smith also hit a very good ton in that innings. The single point managed so far came in Fitzsimmons' first game, a tie against Guyana was a terrific result in a match that they were given no chance in. The bowling looks quite solid in one day and it could be the only chance of even finishing 5th, Aldridge's 3 wickets in the tie in round three was probably the standout performance. The recent results suggest things are on the improve, however theres only five rounds to go and i dont think theres enough ability in the team to win the two or perhaps three games required to move up the table.

One to Watch: A Holland, entered WCC with huge wraps on him. Hes already justified his standing as the first draft pick by scoring over 600 runs. His century count is already taking off and if ND are to stay out of trouble hes going to need a couple more.
Predicted Finish: Four Day: 4th One Day: 6th

Jamaica
An up and down season for Jamaica thus far. Their form has been quite good while not setting the house on fire. Since being hammered by Guyana in round one and Leicestershire in round two they have steadily improved. You could have been forgiven for thinking at that stage that it was going to be a very long season for them, but the form did get better culminating in the round three win over Free State. Pears and Naqvi got amongst the runs in that match and still continue to be their top batsmen. If they can get one or two of the other batsmen contributing on regular occasions theres a chance of improving their current league position. Ahktar is without doubt carrying the team with the ball, his seven wickets in their only win proved just how vital to the team he is. I dont think they can stay up with only two batsman and one bowler playing at the peak of their powers.
One day cricket has been pleasently different for Jamaican supporters. They are occupying a spot in division four currently and have been more than holding their own. The recent win over Surrey was their most impressive, number three batsman H White scored 133 in the flogging with W Quinn taking 5/29. While their four day side is struggling for regular contributors, they are queing up to score runs and take wickets in the shorter version. While they do sit top of the table now you would have to think one slip up will cost them. On one hand the division is quite weak and their opposition are struggling for consistentcy, the history of this club suggests putting 8 wins in a row together is going to be quite tough. im not sure if they are up to overpowering the likes of Somerset.

One to Watch: S Ahktar, their top bowler and long time contributor to every side hes played for. You know with this bloke you will get quality every time, he definately cant do it all by himself so i'll be looking to see if the rest of the attack follows his lead particularly in four day cricket.

Yeah, a little to accurate for my liking... :@

Some home truths there - AND THE TRUTH DOES HURT!

Although, it is not still out of the question that we can have a divsion play off in one day this season (either way). If we beat Karachi in our next One Day fixutre, we are still a chance.
