Tasmania came out to bat and got a reasonable score of 331, not enough to avoid the follow on however, C Crowe getting 4-41.
Tasmania's second innings saw a magnificent batting display between R Ponting (153) and M Divenuto (170), a partnership of 249 runs, scoring a total in the end of 488. P DeFraitas getting 4-95
Leceistershire second innings of 1-22 (T Ward 20) was not enough to win the game, resulting in a draw.

2 Wins for Warwickshire means there may be a few problems retaining players now - they've redeemed themselves!

First up, a trip to Nottinghamshire.

Batting first, we were soon in trouble, slipping to 86-5, but Mark Wagh batted superbly to make an unbeaten 119 off just 166 balls, and give us a poor, but better than it might have been score of 237.

This was bettered by just 2 runs, after a fine effort from Alan Richardson to trigger a collapse of the the last 4 wickets for just 2 - he finished with 4-40, and bowled very tidily.

Powell (68) and Knight (119) then added a fine 124, and Bell helped add another 83 for the 2nd wicket, as the Bears took the game to Nottinghamshire. A more cicumspect knock from Wagh this time, but he still made 84, as we amassed 393 all out.

Nottinghamshire had no reply to a fine team effort 2nd time round, finishing on 172 all out for a 219 run defeat.

Next a game with Tasmania that represented "a clash of the lightweights" from the one day competition.

Again we batted first, and again Wagh was the star - scoring 94 this time, and with support from Bell with 57, and Pollock 63, we made it to 314.

Poor Jamie Cox had little support from his top order, and it was left to number 8 Pascoe to score 80 and help add 132 for the 7th wicket, as Tasmania fell 9 runs short.

The 2nd innings was a tale of 3 partnerships - 65 for the 4th wicket between Wagh (a comparative failure with 42!) and Troughton, then young Wagg helped Pollock (54 off 66 balls) add 75 for the 7th wicket.
Crucially, though, at last the strength in depth showed itself, as Piper (49*) and Carter (46) added 95 for the last wicket.

At 164-2, it was game on - but we pugged away, eventually the last wicket fell at 272 for a 54 run victory, Pollock taking his match haul to 5 as well has 2 half centuries :D

Game 1

Kent v NSW

NSW win but not without a gutsy fight from the Kent lower order

Kent wanted to test out it's batting and bowling departments in the two warm up games, for the NSW test batting was the key and went into the game with 9 front line batsman.

Kent batted first and the openers put on a good start and both openers R.Key and D.Fulton looked in good nick until B.Lee removed Fulton on the last ball of his over traping him plum in-front. Kent's innings went from bad to worse and G.McGrath then removed R.Key getting him caught behind... Kent needed to consolidate some what and E.Smith did just that.. Out for a golden duck caught in the deep by B.Lee. Kent were now in deep trouble three wickets had fallen for no extra runs (27/3). Kent really needed a big score from star batsman B.Lara and wicketkeeper G.Jones, B.Lara who will be moving to NSW in the season brake wantted to show his new employer Bug's just how well he can play. The pair shared in a valuble 75 run stand that produced some fine batting displays from both players, However G.Jones seemed to forget he was in a 4 day game a scored a quick fire 50 of just 65 balls before he was caught behind of NSW spinner S.MacGill.. M.Walker was the new batsman to the middle and but on another very important partership of 47 with B.Lara, the pair were playing well and looked to push the score on a bit for Kent when M.Walker fell for a short pitch ball and hooked B.Lee stright into the hands of spinner S.MacGill in the deep, Kent looked all at sea at just 151/5, when the number 7 bats man and Kent Wicketkeeper P.Nixon was promoted up the order to try to stablize the innings some what, but NSW made the big brake through by taking the wicket of Kent's star batsman B.Lara who had played a very solid innings of 45 from 146 balls; B.Lee again the wicket taker... this time M.Bevan was the catcher. Kent were now in complete disaray at 152/6. P.Nixon and M.Ealham were now left to try to sort the mess out that the earlier batsman had caused, Kent manager was now very happy that he chose 9 batsman to play in this game but now kewn that wahtever score his team managed to post wouldn't be big enough to defend against a very strong NSW side. P.Nixon didn't last long and went for just 10, S.MacGill picking up his 2nd wicket of the innings. M.Ealham was joined in the middle by fellow allrounder M.Felming who was about to have a very immpressive game. Both players played a nice steady innings and keept the score ticking over nicely before both M.Ealham 24 (61) and M.Felming 33 (61) fell in the same G.McGrath over which all but ened the Kent innings, both bowlers.. M.Saggers and B.Trott fell in McGrath's next over nither of them adding to the total.

Kent's innings fell away and a very dissapointing score of 224 all out left Kent manager, wondering what lay ahead.

NSW bowled well and three players stood out

G.McGrath 21 - 7 - 47 - 5
B.Lee 19 - 5 - 57 - 3
S.MacGill 15 - 2 - 52 - 2

NSW 1st innings started in very ominous form with the whole top order all firing. Kent’s decision to play only two bowlers and two all rounders was always going to allow NSW to get a big score while batting. However anything in the region of 350 would have let Kent back into the game, however this was short lived as NSW racked up 455ao including a brilliant 136 (197) by star batsman M.Bevan. NSW innings also included two half centuries from M.Waugh 57 (98) and S.Lee 66 (137) and 49 from Australian captain S.Waugh who will be one of three players heading to Kent from NSW over the season brake.

Kent’s Bowlers were expensive and not the usual performance standard that they are capable of.

M.Ealham - 27 - 4 - 105 - 1
M.Saggers - 35 – 5 – 112 - 3
M.Fleming - 29 - 6 –74 - 0
B.Trott - 30 - 6 – 143 - 6

Kent would start their 2nd innings a mammoth 228 runs behind and it would take a better performance than the first innings to get NSW to even bat again. The innings started badly with R.Key falling for just 8 (3) leaving the score on 22/1. Again NSW got an early wicket and the innings looked to be following a similar pattern to the first. Again NSW didn’t have to wait too long for their next victim with fellow opener D.Fulton falling for 25 (36) yet again the story of Kent’s game was another batsman getting a god start but not going on. B.Lara was joined at the crease by E.Smith who was hoping to improve on his golden duck 1st innings display…well he did but only just falling for just 6, trapped LBW by strike bowler G.McGrath. Kent were reeling at 3/53. Soon to become 4/53 with B.Lara falling for a poor innings of 11 (46). Kent were looking at a innings defeat when a partnership of 74 from G.Jones and M.Walker recovered the situation slightly. But M.Walker 36 (68) fell to a dubious LBW decision from G.McGrath the NSW bowlers sensed a chance to finish the Kent innings off. At 127/5 Kent were still in deep trouble and still 101 runs off making NSW bat again. Kent added just another 22 runs before G.Jones fell for 41 (77) just 9 runs short of making a half century in both innings, 149/6. Kent all rounder M.Ealham made just 9 more runs before being caught behind of spinner S.MacGill, 158/7. Fans could be seen leaving the ground now and that was the biggest mistake of the day. With the wicket of M.Ealham…M.Felming coming in at number 9 was bought to the middle and he turned the game on it’s head with a absolutely scintillating knock of 95* (135) he was well supported by P.Nixon 40 (74), but when he was out it seemed that M.Felming 35* would run out of partners… But for a change the Kent bowlers started to make the NSW bowlers looks silly as B.Trott made 40 (90) and M.Saggers 21 (36) which allowed M.Felming time to run riot at the other end and proceed to 95*. This lower order onslaught ment that Kent total of 349 all out would give them a 120 run lead…Although not likely to be a match winning lead, but it did give the players to show their manager that they could bat and dig in deep when needed.

NSW bowling was ok but nothing sparkling stood out apart from the fact that G.McGrath went at nearly 5 an over (must be a first :))

G.McGrath – 28 – 8 – 100 - 3
B.Lee - 24 - 5 – 83 - 4
S.MacGill - 18 - 3 – 52 – 3

NSW required to score 118 to win the game and started as badly as possible with C.Richards falling for just 2 (9). But it didn’t take long for M.Waugh and M.Bevan to rule out any chance of a Kent win being on the cards with a 60 run partnership before M.Bevan fell for 27 (40). M.Clarke continued where M.Bevan left off and was left 20 not out of 39 balls at the end of the match. However before the match was won M.Waugh fell for 54 (76). Kent bound players M.Clarke and S.Waugh 7 (29) scored the few runs left for victory and wrapped up a conniving 7 wicket victory.

Kent’s bowling

M.Ealham – 8 – 3 – 23 - 1
M.Saggers - 11 - 4 – 45 - 1
M.Fleming - 8 - 2 – 32 - 0
B.Trott - 5 - 0 - 16 - 1

NSW win by 7 wickets

M.Bevan was declared the Man Of The Match for his fantastic 136 in the first innings

Being the first matches in WCC that Canterbury played they decided to play all players in their squad. Big mistake as Canterbury suffered 2 heavy losses. It ended up causing more problems then solutions with some players playing better then expected.

Western Province v Canterbury:
Poor bowling and poor batting resulted in an innings defeat. Bowlers such as Bond and W Cornelius performed as expected both taking 2 wickets each, while Hasting took 3-58 which suprised the Canterbury management as they were going to release him but now things may change. On the other hand C Cornelius virtually guaranteed his release with 0-154 off just 33 overs. What he did do was show that there are less economical bowlers than Brett Lee. As for the batting, a line up of 4 batsmen, an allrounder, a wicker keeper, and 5 bowlers didnt work just scoring 146 and 320. Overall a disappointing performance.

Queensland v Canterbury
Could things have gone any worse than the other game? Well no, at least for now. This time the Canterbury bowlers actually dismissed the opposition, although it was for 502 it was still an improvement on the 8-513 dec. from WP. None off the bowlers really stood out with all bowlers taking 1 or 2 wickets which is good to see. Centuries by Stead (123) and Harris (162 :D) were the highlights of the batting. Unfortunately Stead is leaving to NSW which should please Bugs. Other than that no stand outs in Canterbury's 418. Qld declared their 2nd innings at 2-233 with Wiseman taking 2 wickets. Canterbury were unable to reach the tarket and fell 115 runs short with Harris scoring 47. An improvement but still a long way to go. The Canterbury management will be looking for a win in their upcoming one day match where their best side will be played.

LANCASHIRE v COLTS

Lancashire batted first and were dismissed for a disappointing 163. R.Dravid(46), A.Swann(30) N.Fairbrother(22) were the main contributors with W.Vaas(16-4-57-4) and D.Hettiarachchi(16-3-51-3) doing the damage for the Colts.

The Colts then amassed 275 in reply to take a handy first innings lead of 112 runs, but only after the lower order fought back from 138/5.
D.Samaraweera(41), R.Kaluwitharana(38), D.Liyanage(32), M.Mendis(29), K.Upashantha(23), K.Weeraratne(23) and S.Fernando(22) all helped to put their side in the box seat.
J.Wood(14-1-50-4) stood out amongst the Lancashire bowlers, giving manager GrahamB further headaches in deciding which players will miss the end of season cut. M.Smethurst(15-3-31-2) and C.Schofield(20-4-58-2) also turned in solid performances with the ball.

Lancashire fared little better in their second innings as W.Vaas(16-4-42-4) again impressed. K.Upashantha(12-2-32-3) also turned in a devastating spell as Lancashire were dismissed for 174, leaving the Colts a meagre 63 runs to chase for victory.
N.Fairbrother(68no) was the mainstay of the innings as all and sundry fell around him. R.Dravid(25) was the only other Lancashire batsman to pass 20.

R.Kaluwitharana(47no) and fellow opener S.Fernando knocked off the necessary runs without loss and at 66/0 the Colts had achieved an emphatic 10 wicket victory over their Division One rivals.

3rd Umpire
LANCASHIRE v NORTHERN DISTRICTS

ND batted first and put together a competitive total of 315.
M.Parlane(77), M.Hart(59), H.Marshall(44) and J.Marshall(31) all looked to be in good form.
For Lancashire A.Flintoff(22-7-45-3), C.Schofield(23-7-55-2), G.Maiden(21-4-59-2) and P.Martin(24-7-46-1) all bowled well. The youngster J.Anderson(18-1-85-2) was a little too erratic.

In reply Lancashire scored 369 to take a slender first innings lead of 54 runs.
R.Dravid(118), G.Lloyd(66) and C.Schofield(44) were the main contributors with M.Chilton(26) and P.Martin(21) adding cameos.
G.Aldridge(23-8-63-3) and S.Styris(11-4-27-2) bowled impressively for ND.

ND let themselves down in their second turn at bat as collapsed to 105/6. H.Marshall(56) and B.Martin(63) showed some fight with a 98 run partnership for the 7th wicket, but the only other contributions came from M.Bailey(32) and S.Styris(20) as ND were dismissed for 239.
C.Schofield(10-5-41-5) weaved his magic and P.Martin(15-3-56-4) put in a performance that will please his new manager, Jaganjai(TN) for next season.
Lancashire would require 186 for victory.

Lancashire lost just the one wicket in their second innings as A.Swann(82no) and R.Dravid(79no) put together an unbeaten 149 run partnership in taking their side to victory.

Kent vs Hampshire

As predicted by board member and fellow mate Reuben manager of Hampshire , Hampshire beat Kent , as said before they didnt oppose at all and Hampshire were never at any point of the game in danger of losing ..

You wouldnt call kent a " world class side " after their string of losses to teams like South Australia and Northern Districts and Hampshire itself :P

Hampshire looks in fine form for the 4 day even though it lost to a really good Worcestshire team , the better English team won there :P

Ill be sipping on ma english tea and prepare well for the upcoming friendlies and Season 2
