A win is important first up for SA. A selection shock when one day specialist D Nisar was chosen in the side over spinner Heath Axelby. The selection commitee has decided on the fast deck that its not wise to play the extra spinner and this line up hopefully will allow us to only have to bat once. Nisar who is the sides one day all rounder is unlikely to bowl but we are hoping he can contribute with some handy runs down the order...

On this pitch at The Brit Oval, it's not very conductive to the spinners, but we feel that Petal, can really contribute a few wickets, and help with our batting efforts, we bat down to 10 and feel that whatever match situation is thrown at us we can handle. With out Porter, Tamil Nadu will not be at full strength and we need to take advantage of that fact. Shrinivas will take the captaincy for the first time. It would obviously be good to get a win on my managerial debut but Tamil Nadu are a tough team so we'd settle for a draw. I'm looking forward to my return to the big leagues, and my first foray into Four Day Division 1.

Kent hope the balance of this side with 5 bowlers and 9 batsmen is enough to get them over the line. Spinners Hawkins and Butt are expected be the main wicket taking option on the spinner friendly Canterbury pitch. Their were some thoughts to go in with 4 bowlers and play an extra batsmen in French, but the selection commitee believed that the batting was strong enough with only Hawkin and Dyer not recognised batsmen.

Bit disappointed (HUGE understatement) with the injury to Porter. His injury means V Harkness (batting avge 24.1, bowling s/r 38.3 eco 3.45) will step into the side. Harkness is excellent back-up but is obviously not at the same level of Porter. Will still be looking for a good win, it's likely to be our bowling which performs best with Surrey's bowling attack being quite good while their batting line-up leaves a bit to be desired. Anyway, let's get off to a good start!
