The Second Round of 20/20 World Cup starts Sunday 16th September after the Preliminary round is completed . Group E in the second round has the following 4 teams- A1,C1, B2 , D2

At this stage it seems it will most likely be South Africa (A1) , NZ (C1), England(B2) and India (D2). Unless a 3rd ranked Tean in any of these groups upsets any of the 2 teams in these groups.

South Africa odds on to finish top of Group E and the second Semi finalist will be a tussle between India and NZ , IMHO.

All 4 teams could end up being average or worse. I would say India is the outsider because fielding loses or earns you runs which are tough to get back. In 50 overs cricket you can simply attack a bit earlier or a bit more, in 20 over cricket you're already playing on the limit so extra runs gained and lost here and there make a big difference.

At a push I would go for England and NZ, with SA and India turning in dire performances - but anything can happen obviously.

Indian fielding is not defensible of course. But some of the poster boys of bad fielding are not in the squad (thinking the 30+ folks, Powar, Munaf).

Some other Indian liabilities, like Pathan being good only for the first 3 overs or so in bowling and Sehwag in batting, are also fine in this format.

Dont dispute your primary point, that India has the weakest hand here.

Yes. India is not a great fielding side and an untried bowling side as faras this format goes. Batting is a bit closer to odi's so thats not such abig worry barring the inexperience.

A final side of

Sehwag
Karthik
Dhoni
Yuvraj
Uthappa
Gambhir/Rohit Sharma
Pathan I
Pathan Y/Joginder Sharma
Harbhajan
Sreesanth/Agarkar
RP Singh

may/could spring a surprise. I still feel they will miss Sachin very badly. Add just him in this line up and it looks much better. Though I agree with his decision to stay out due to physical reasons. Any talk of his not being right for this format is pure garbage.

Could Scotland go through , If India lost to Pakistan?

They would have to lose by a bigger margin than Scotland .:)

Cue a fantastic diving catch from Smith off KP, with KP going for a duck first ball...

Seriously, I think South Africa's bowlers are there for the taking. They don't have a spinner and no change of pace. Ntini, in particular, has looked absolute cannon-fodder so far. South Africa have to bowl first if they win the toss.

Not Terrible
This should be a belter of a match. Great looking day.

Its kind of funny to think that those dancers are getting paid almost as much as the players for this.
