Here's the Twenty20 squad I'd like to see ...

MS Dhoni (c), Yuvraj Singh (vc), Virender Sehwag, Robin Uthappa, Karan Goel, Manoj Tiwary, Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik, Yusuf Pathan, Praveen Kumar, Piyush Chawla, Harbhajan Singh, Ajit Agarkar, Zaheer Khan, RP Singh

Gautam Gambhir for Goel, Niraj Patel for Tiwary (injured?) and/or Niranjan Behera for Bhajji would be alright, as well.

Official T20 squad: MS Dhoni (C,WK) Yuvraj Singh (VC), Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik, Gautam Gambhir, Yusuf Pathan (LBG/OB), Irfan Pathan (LMF), Joginder Sharma (RM), Piyush Chawla (LBG), Harbhajan Singh (OB), Sreesanth, RP Singh (LFM), Agarkar (RMF), Uthappa.

Dilip Vengsarkar at his blinkered best. Praveen Kumar's absence is absolutely baffling. They seem to only go one way- backwards.

How else can one explain the inclusion of Agarkar when youth is supposed to be the priority? Praveen Kumar was a far better pick, he's younger, taller, stronger and more productive. Agarkar's just a make-up-the-numbers selection, with no real return expected. Baffling selection. While they're trying to get Irfan Pathan back in action and in form, they could have waited a little. It's good to see so many all-rounders in the pack- Irfan, Yusuf, Chawla, Sharma, Dhoni and Karthik- but some of them are dicey selections.

Chetan Chauhan:
  • They should have picked more youngsters. Why was Agarkar picked? He's not young, and he isn't getting any better. Ishant Sharma or Yo Mahesh would be better.
  • Sehwag has contributed a lot more to the team, despite his age. He deserves to make the team.
  • I don't know why Yusuf Pathan was picked. There are already two spinners.
  • Why was Zaheer dropped?
  • This Indian team was not picked to win. Just to make up the numbers.

  • Youth is not a factor. McGrath and Warne should then have retired ten years ago. Lillee and Thomson were in their prime at 28.
  • Praveen Kumar should have been picked ahead of Yusuf Pathan or Irfan or Joginder. He's a fantastic all-rounder, very powerful and aggressive.
  • Karan Goel should have got a chance.
  • I'm surprised at that comment. This team was obviously picked to win!
  • Zaheer may be rested <he was prompted> but let's hope he doesn't go to England and play county cricket.

Irfan Pathan is presumably travelling to South Africa due to his batting ‘ability’… For if the Indians think he can be trusted to send down four overs then they will be going home earlier. Pleased to see Chawla in the 15 but Ramesh Powar for me should have travelled in front of Harbhajan Singh, whose record in South Africa is appalling.

Let's try and explain this.

Official T20 squad:

MS Dhoni: Skipper, good hitter, better finisher, wicketkeeper
Yuvraj Singh: Vice captain, very clean hitter, useful bowler, handy bowler
Sehwag: Strong hitter against new ball, handy bowler
Rohit Sharma: Don't know much about him, but seems to be good
Dinesh Karthik: Good fielder (except simple catches), good finishing batsman
Gautam Gambhir: Good agressiveness against the new ball
Yusuf Pathan: Good hitter, tight twenty20 bowler
Irfan Pathan (LMF): Don't get me started
Joginder Sharma (RM): Solid all rounder
Piyush Chawla (LBG): Class act all round
Harbhajan Singh (OB): Good tight bowler
Sreesanth: NO, would not have picked him.
RP Singh (LFM): Hard to hit medium pacer
Agarkar (RMF): Brilliant twenty20 record
Uthappa: Fantastic opening hitter

Looked awesome in the last Under-19 World Cup and he batted melodiously similar to Sehwag.

Cool. On second thought, Pathan is probably there for his all round ability rather than his bowling alone.

Powar's stocky frame probably kept him out of the squad.
