Specialist squad?

Would be?

He's already played 17 games and only averages 22. Being a good agressive ODI player doesn't mean you are a good 2020 player.

Why not?

17 20-20 isn't enough to judge a player anyway.
Because they are different forms of cricket, just as being a good ODI player doesn't make you a good test one, each form of cricket should be judged on how good at player is at that form.

But we know that Pietersen can score runs quickly, because he does it day in day our in Tests, and in ODIs, what's the problem?

Ali Brown and James Benning have probably the two highest strike rates from top order batsmen in England yet are no where near as good 2020 players as they are 50 over ones.

So no Peitersen in your squad? Crazy...

In Australia players like Michael Dighton performed well in last years tournament, is he going to get a run? of course not..

Well as we're discussing specialist squads not reality whether he plays is of little importance.

And no, i wouldn't have KP in my specialist squad.

Hmm.. ok so in the Australia specialist squad out goes Gilchrist, Lee and Clarke, in comes Ronchi, Lewis, Dighton?

I see your argument before about them being different games, but surely you can understand that 20/20 is more similar to 50 over, then 50 over is to Tests?

A star performer who still averages 22 in 20/20 in limited games isn't completely shocking, he needs to play.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to exclude Clarke, but to leave out your strike bowler and vice captain would be silly. Now why would you do that?

Exactly why would you do that open365? just because they've not performed at a high level in a few 20/20 games doesn't mean they can't..

Gilchrist has only played 4 2020 games, i would still pick him, though i'm not sure what the alternatives are.

Brett Lee has only played 3 2020 games, again he keeps his spot.

1)Gilly
2)Hayden
3)Ponting
4)Hodge
5)Symonds
6)Hussey
7)White

For Australia I'd go with...

Matthew Hayden
Adam Gilchrist
Ricky Ponting
Cameron White/Michael Clarke
Andrew Symonds
Shane Watson
Michael Hussey
Brett Lee
Brad Hogg
Shaun Tait/Mitchell Johnson
Ben Hilfenhaus

Would it be best to pick Twenty20 specialist players in a squad for such games, esp with the Twenty20 world cup coming up? In my opinion, specialists such as Adam Hollioake and Mark Ealham should be in with a shout.

Twenty20 XI:
1) Loye (Wk)
2) Benning
3) Maddy
4) Ali Brown
5) Pietersen
6) Flintoff
7) Hollioake (Capt)
8) Masceranhas
9) Ealham
10) Blackwell
11) Broad

Perhaps a batsman short?
Graeme Hick perhaps? Just had a look at his 20-20 record and it is nothing short of spectacular, and a heaps ahead of every other batsman in that side.

Pietersen isn't a very good 2020 player at all, he only averages 22, there are loads of English batsmen with a lot better records than that.
I agree with you on that. Pietersen is the sort of player that needs to get in before he starts hitting the ball around the park, 20-20 on the other hand is for players who can play what i call 'stop-start' innings that involve being able to score runs from ball one (unless you are an opener in which case you might be able to get away with it). His record proves that
