New Zealand Black Caps Thread

Be interesting to see who we pick, I'm predicting David Houpapa to be playing. Guys like Andre Adams, James Franklin and Brendon McCullum (could play as a specialist batsman) will be vital to our cause.

Houpapa? Obviously someone sees a lot more in him than I have!

Do you expect to see a 'specialist' 20:20 squad? Given the team that played down in Wellington, that probably means McGlashan (I'd rather see Don McGlashan playing in an NZ shirt to be honest)

Houpapa can hit the ball a long way and looks pretty good when doing so, he is definately in contention if we choose to broaden our squad a bit more.

I don't rate McGlashan at all, I think Reece Young is a better innovator, although is nowhere near McGlashan as a proper batsman.

20:20 isn't all about smashing the ball though, but I get your point. Reece Young is an awful batsman, and if we needed an innovating batsman, then we might as well use Mark Gillespie who is probably the biggest innovator (and most annoying opponent) for any bowler!

Andre Adams should be there, but I wonder if the disciplinary issue after he rammed Bevan Griggs' grille in his face still count against him? I don't think Bracewell either rates or likes Adams very much.

I've been very impressed with what I've seen from Houpapa. Admittedly I've only seen him play in a few 20/20 games but he's a very good striker of the ball and looks a decent prospect.

I'm so tempted to go on another Houpapa rave but for the sake of everyones sanity I won't.:)

Adams is average and should not play ahead of other better allrounders.

With regards to a specialist squad or development squad, the question "Do we want to win this thing?" needs to be answered. If yes, specialist squad. If no, development squad.

I think I may have missed Houpapa in the 20:20 and only seen him in one-dayers. I don't think he did too well. Fair play then.... Give him a go, should be more exciting than some of the other batting options!!

I know that, but Houpapa plays very good cricket shots. Usually they just end up going over the rope. Reece Young is a shocking batsman, but is well suited to Twenty20 with his dinky little sweeps and nudges.

I don't rate Adams much either, but Twenty20 is perfectly suitedto him and I would be very surprised if he didn't make the squad.

I know what you mean, but I think I'd have a sick feeling in my guts to see Reece Young donning international colours. It makes one wonder how far one could have got onesself if such a poor player gained any sort of international cap.

Yeah Adams is probably best suited to 20/20 just as Afridi is.

I think Tama Canning has a copyright on that, or possibly Murphy Su'a.

Also, I have the cleanest caps of anyone to ever play for New Zealand. I could never bring myself to wear them for fear of messing up my hair do.

I was thinking Royden Hayes or Carl Bulfin
