Just out of interest, when did Willis & Coney pair-up in the box?
Dunno about in the box, but we often get them summarising together when UK Sky carries NZ home internationals.

Willis an infinitely better summariser than commentator for me. His world-weary sardonicism can grate over a thirty minute stint, but cuts to the gist in a five minute summing-up.

Coney's gold tho; ridiculously underused.

As with his batting he's in a league of his own - he was guesting with TMS in the 5th Test - 'twas embarassing to listen to

I think I've figured out a way to attract the American audience to cricket. Get in loud mouth Texan commentators and play a laughter track after every other delivery.

1. Nasser Hussain.

2. Ian Bishop
No way is Bishop anywhere near being one of the worst. Hussain is rather condescending but can be tolerated.

These guys aren't in the same league as the Healys and Nicholases and the Sri Lankan guy whats his name...

Viv Richards by an absolute mile is the worst commentator
He doesn't commentate for UK listeners on TMS he just gives an expert summary between balls. It's true he's awful. He giggles a lot, says "Hmmmnnnn" (which Boycott has started to copy) even more and uses the term "body language" to describe everything that happens.

 Don't know why the thought of that makes me chuckle so heartily.

Yeah, I know . A friend and I were discussing why Arrested development had to be cancelled after just 3 seasons, and we figured (massive generalisation coming up, hold onto your handbags, ladies) the lack of a laughter track meant the Americans just didn't know when to laugh. Tying that up with the cricket was a natural extension.

Its true though, I have a feeling my ex girlfriend was American, because she used to sit down in front of Friends every evening and only laugh when the laughter track came on.. As opposed to me who would sit there and never laugh at anything American ever.. Except for the American Office which is a total anomaly, no laughter track and funny

Really? I've never heard him commentate, he can't be worse than the Channel 9 commentary team surely?

As one who is of the opinion that Viv is physically incapable of ever being the worst at anything, I'm truly happy not to have heard his work.

You have never laughed at Seinfeld or Curb Your Enthusiasm?

You've put your finger on it mate. It's a real shame hearing him commentate because it really does puncture the mystique a bit. I have the same sort of feeling about Gower - a boyhood hero of mine and a big disappointment (to my way of thinking, at least) as a commentator.

Nothing wrong with Bish, and I'm not sure if the West Indian writer who isn't Tony Cozia in the 20-20 stint has been said, but he was absolutely shocking, annoyed the HELL out of me, was biased, but at the same time kept repeating everything being said about how the Windies have had so little success over the past 10 years and are finally enjoying some now and turning it all around too, couldn't stand him!

To be honest the guy is an avid WI fan and has to have put up with a lot of **** in the last decade, the number of times I've heard him sound like he wants to die far outnumbers the false hope occasions
