Women's football stuff that doesn't deserve its own thread

Why, as a general rule, is goalkeeping in the women's game still abysmal? I get that they won't be as tall or have the athletic ability to jump/leap as far as a male keeper but that doesn't explain the general incompetence when it comes to positional play and ability to literally hold onto a ball. It really stands out as a sore thumb given how much outfield play has improved at the top tier, even compared to a decade ago.

Outfield play is entirely lower body affair, whereas goalkeeping also includes a lot of upper body, something women aren't known to be the most relatively proficient at.

I think it's a size thing too, it's far more noticeable the difference between a man and a woman stood in the middle of a goal......which further highlights the truly abysmal nature of last night's shoot out.

For anyone who wants to watch it again (and boy is it comedy value), here are all the penalties. It's worth noting how they all had such short straight run ups, meaning they could really only put the ball one way, so very easy for the keepers to guess. By the time Bronze stepped up (she should've gone earlier) I was hoping someone would just put their foot through it and finally she did. Kelly needs to give them lessons, easily the best (and not for the first time either).
As for the game, good fightback from gifting 2 early goals (could've been more), Carter is an absolute liability at the back. Really should beat Italy in the semis now, but hard to predict this lot.

Carter was actually pretty sloppy against Wales, but the match situation meant that it didn't matter, and obviously her performance in that game by-passed the typically hopeless commentators due to the scoreline. Shame, because she was pretty good in the world cup, but not now. Williamson isn't as solid as she was before her ACL injury, but she did OK yesterday. Let's hope her latest injury doesn't keep her out of action for long.

It was a good comeback, and there's no faulting the attitude of the team. I've not previously been a fan of Bronze, to the extent that we have been known to entertain ourselves playing 'Where's Lucy?' when Engand concede, but she was very good yesterday.

Obviously your core and arms are stabilizing as you're running, you've got the odd header in there. But you literally can't use your hands or upper body strength to be manipulating the ball, unlike basketball or tennis, for instance.
