Whatever it takes!!!
Mushy is the most talented spinner I have seen from Pak. His googlies from around the wicket to hapless English batsmen in England were a thing of beauty.

But in terms of performance, Saqlain stands out from the rest easily IMO.

Another decent Pakistan leg spinner was Intikhab. Not a candidate for the best ever but good value and often effective. I'm sure stats guru will throw a paddy, but if being entertained on the day is more important than playing with decimal points fifty years later he's worth a look.

Saqlain had all the gears to perform. He can bowl extremely aggressive lines as well as fire it in, and keep it tight for extended periods of time. Qadir had only one gear, it was relentless attack. However he was not good enough to have that MO, and time and time again was taken to cleaners.

why have pakistan never had a spinner take 400 test wickets it bizarre stat
Because they always had one or two seamers who could take 350 wickets, and few others who were in form. Secondly they are not renowned to produce dustbowls as India. Pakistan is notorious to prepare roads, and when they had one or two seamers who were running hot, with reverse swing they managed to win even on roads. So it is not a very receptive place for spin other than in few places. Only one Pakistani spinner averages < 25 in Pakistan (East or West) + UAE. Note Warne and Pervez Sajjad. Warne had a nice time in UAE.

Also well done on omitting Ajmal.
Saw this too initially and was impressed

but now you've gone and added him ?‍♂

Qadir is an all time great, Saqlain, Mushy and Saeed in there too. Sad how Ajmal is viewed by posters on here when a lot of that chucking issue was out of his control and just 5 or 6 years earlier he would have been cleared same as Akhtar or Murali.
Do you actually believe this

Posters forget that Qadir was also an excellent ODI bowler which added to his sense of value to Imran's side. In terms of stature, he is no.1 in Pakistani cricket, but in terms of quality for me, Saqlain was the best. Really sad the way his career ended prematurely.

Mushtaq Ahmed had a peak of 19 tests between 95 and 98 in which he took 112 wickets @23, despite playing with Wasim and Waqar that time. He took 3 tenfers and all 10 fifers of his career in that period, including matchwinning fifers in Australia, NZ, England and SA. Outside of perhaps Murali, the best peak of any subcontinent spinner. Severely underrated he was.

Wow, really had an awful career outside that didn’t he?

It says in the opening post that Pakistan have had many great fast bowlers. Not sure that’s true. Three greats and a nearly man. :tooth:
