For dominant play its 2007 the 87 win was best interms of underdogspirit. 99 was the most fairytail win.

2003. Remained unbeaten but looked in all sorts of trouble in 3 games (vs Pakistan, England, and NZ) but good enough to get through.
1987 - major surprise
1999 - needed a lot of luck
2003 - see above
2007 - boring tournament (shame NZ with Bond didn't make the final - would've been a much better game)
2015 - won because they got to host the final. Nasty sledging ruined their legacy

Why not 99? Heralded the beginning of their most dominant era, had the most memorable performances too, and was a come from behind effort.

2003 and 2007 it didn't feel like much of a competition.

and Semi-Final v Sri Lanka. Big trouble that game and Symonds dug them out

1987 - wasn't born, they probably cheated
1999 - robbed SA (?match fixing, Gibbs drop on purpose, Donald run out)
2003 - Ponting used illegal bat, cheated
2007 - Sri Lanka had to bat in the dark, cheated
2015 - Smith & Warner in the team, definitely cheated

Whatever it takes!!!
Have read that the 87 Australian ODI team discovered/perfected the art of the slower ball and its use in LO cricket.

Sounds about right, Steve Waugh & Simon O'Donnell get a lot of credit for bringing it into mainstream.

Though I'm sure Migara will tell you it was actually a Sri Lankan domestic fast bowler that did it
Every ball from Steve Waugh was very slow

87 seems like a gun tournament.

Two evenly matched groups some pretty close games some shock results (Windies missing on semis) both hosts getting knocked out in 2 competitive semis both results were slight upsets as well and then a close final between cricket 2 traditional rivals infront of 100,000 people.

Would have paid to watch this tournament.

That's generally the idea

I’ve often wondered why Garner and Holding didn’t prolong their careers until the end of that 1987 World Cup. Anyone know the reason they retired beforehand?
