I was surprised to find that Gower had been used as an opener successfully. This gave me more flexibilty.

Judging by ICC ODI player rankings, this side will be hard to toss. Of the current players (Bairstow, Azam, Shakib and Santnor) two are currently ranked number one in Batting and All-rounder rankings (Azam & Shakib) while the other two are in the top 5 or 6 of Batting and All-rounder rankings.
The other 7 are all ranked in the Top 10 of All-time rankings with Richards and Garner topping Batting and Bowling and Richards and Chappell in both Batting and All-rounder categories.
Santnor was my final selection. I almost went for another opener but he gives the side great flexibility. He's a capable bat, his left arm orthodox bowling is effective and he has kept wicket. The 'keeping aspect would allow him to take over from Bairstow if needed (eg If bowling first to allow Bairstow to prepare for opening the batting).
The side bats right down and the bowling attack is formidable.

No proper spinner and 4 #11s aside, that is a good side. :)

Solid batting lineup - think Ganguly can be an underrated ODI player at times and gives us a 4th seam bowling option on green pitches. Tamim Iqbal obviously a pick decided by a dictate but a solid record and he isn't a minnow basher - has decent records v the likes of England, Australia, Pakistan, West Indies. Williamson gives us a rock at 3 who can ensure we aren't facing a top-order collapse too often and are followed by de Silva and Rhodes - capable of scoring quickly but also capable of setting a platform for the side.

Buttler as keeper gives us an elite finisher and is followed by an ATG ODI cricketer in Kapil Dev (95 SR in his time!) Pollock can more than bat too and Warne isn't a mug with the bat either giving us solid batting depth. Think the bowling is our strength. 5 legitimate top bowling options in ODI cricket and 2 of the 3 best ODI spinners ever I'd argue. We've seen in recent years what a quality spin attack can do in the middle overs - especially on flat pitches. Dev, Pollock and Donald all top quality seamers too even if they aren't in the top couple in terms of ODI cricket.

solid side. Wud have preferred a 4th seam option but otherwise very good.

It was a reasonably deliberate choice not to have a 4th out and out seamer. I maybe could have gone for Stokes but wasn't actively looking for a 4th seamer. If they batted in the top 5 and bowled seam it was a bonus. I think Mushtaq and Warne are both more than good enough to bowl in the latter overs so wasn't actively seeking a 4th seamer for death bowling. On seam friendly pitches we have Ganguly who has had plenty of bowling experience in ODIs although no doubt is a significant drop off from other 4th seam bowling options in other sides. On spin-friendly pitches we have the best spin attack due to having 2 of best 3 ODI spinners in my view. Kapil Dev not the worst seamer to bowl on a potentially dry, wearing pitch either.

This is a seriously good team. That top 7 and then bottom 5 in separate views make for awesome viewing as batting and bowling line-ups. Both Afridi and Jaya are good spinners too.

Only major issue is 4 bunnies.

9 bowling options, guys who can hit sixes and make important runs all the way down to 11 and genuine 50 scoring batsmen till 9, WC winning captain, excellent new ball and old ball fast bowlers, nice middle overs seamers and pace off guys and a very good leggie backed up by very good part time spin from Yuvi, Til Dil and Root. ATG batsmen in Root, Miandad and Steve Waugh and one of the best wicket keeper batsmen even in this format in Gilly. Amazingly good side I have managed to assemble this time.
