Wil be interesting to see whether Spark bother investing in speed guns for the domestic T20 games this season. A couple of Sears deliveries flashing up as 153 in a televised game could easily be enough to get him fast tracked into a T20 debut v Pakistan later in the season.

That's good signs from sears...very good. Hopefully stays injury free. The energy he puts into his bowling action + his stick thin physique reminds me of early Adam Milne. Worrying.

i want super cricket aotearoa already

give me first class conference cricket with all test players in it.
Yes. Super Rugby Aotearoa has been insanely good, cricket should have a crack too

Thank god we're not going to a massively pumped up T20 comp like Australia are. I think. David White, don't get any ideas.

New look website, like the looks of it. Easy on the eyes.

Was thrilled about WI v Eng series but in the end only caught few glimpses of it. The timings is a bugger.

It's been a long time with no Black Caps games... hoping for a good domestic comp but IPL and CPL may pull our super stars away.

Said for a long time now, Sears is the real deal. He will go for runs sure but the boy is capable. He'll rough up some batters around the world if he can stay fit. Hopefully NZC and Firebirds trainers can do a good job with him. Hoping they don't get him to go to the gym and build up like tarzan. He'll end up bowling mid 130s if that happens. Hope he stays like a bean pole and bowls heat.

Couple of months or three and we're into domestic cricket yay... looking forward to Finn Allen this year. Hoping he can turn things around. Read on cricinfo Peter Fulton rates him highly. Lot to look forward to this season.

just learned taranaki loosie kaylum boshier (brother of lachlan) played in the same under 19 cricket side as rachin and co.

what would be the cricket rugby side? must have chosen rugby over cricket (so no southee or mccullum) but been good at cricket

Dan Carter was a handy club player. Possibly better than handy if he hadn't concentrated on rugby.

My (cricket) team in Oamaru had a former Highlanders coach on it: he'd faced Dagg in a inter-squad "social" game at Carisbrook and had to call for a helmet, he was rapid.

Kieran Read could've made the Black Caps. He basically had to choose which sport he wanted to play.

i thought you were joking until i found the below. premier club cricket at thirteen plus a certain starter for the ND under 19s until injury...which made him choose rugby. rip.

.

article also gives us hawke cup winner and all black utility back leon macdonald.
Kieran could really play. He was a technically sound as hell, reasonably dour opening bat. Played 1st XI at St Kent's in the one year he went there (fourth form/year 10).

Jason Spice played for ND and Super Rugby as well off the top of my head

Not sure how many of you remember Allan Hewson. I was way too young to remember his All Black days but remember the long range penalty against the springboks early 80s talked about plenty in Wellington circles. He was a pretty good wicket keeper and played for firebirds as well. He continued to play for Petone riverside first XI for years to come. His son was a reasonably good left arm spinner but never quite took off.

Ofisa Junior Tonu'u is another very accomplished cricketer. Played both cricket and we all know about his rugby prowess. He may still be active playing cricket.

Kaylum Boshier was the captain of our under 19 side couple of years ago. Not sure why they named him captain to be honest. Probably to ease the pressure on the likes of Ravindra and Allen but I would have thought he was too good a rugby player to give up rugby.

I think younghusband and Bhula are going to struggle to find a spot in the long format. One of McPeake, Van Beek or Sears is going to miss out every game. Bennett, Newton can't be dropped. They are way too good.

Jarrod Kimber on Neil Wagner the ultramodernist and ace first-change bowler
That match against SL where Wagner decided to bounce Angelo Matthews has to rank alongside Hadlee using a short run in the Sunday Leagues in terms of Eureka moments. The guy went from being a journeyman (averaging low 30's) to a weapon almost instantaneously.

newton is decent in red ball cricket but far from undroppable. he's your third best quick tops, and sears is going to overtake him soon. if i were nzc and sears didn't play at every opportunity this season i would confiscate him to NZ A like they did with rachin.

the shield isn't super rugby levels of managed (central ignoring nz wishes and batting young in his preffered #3 would get them in deep trouble if it was) but it has been noticeable in the past couple of years nzc have run out of patience with domestic sides selecting meme teams or allowing young talent to degrade in club cricket.

in one day cricket newton's been very successful. discovered the other day he averages 21 lol

Newton is definitely a white ball specialist, from what I've seen.

Heads up to all that Spark has just put some new old highlights up ... just watched the first day from the 1993 third NZ vs Aus test at Eden Park ... Danny Morrison and Willie Watson ripping through Boon/Taylor/Waugh/Langer/Martyn ... great to watch! There's also even older stuff like the match where the lawn bowl gets rolled out as Greg Chappell walks on to bat, so there's some pretty classic stuff in there (although not heaps of it, I really hope they add more from the 80s and 90s).
