Amazing that Steve Smith is still #1 inspite of the penalties he may have faced. I am not in agreement with the methods and I dont like rating current players, but this was a good exercise. Very well done and provoked good discussion.

I would love to see your methodology with this factor removed.

After removing the penalty for high SR, Sehwag ranks at no.17 with 127.7 pts, Gilchrist ranks at no.25 with 118.7 pts and Warner moves up to no. 30 with 114.4 pts. Everything else remains unchanged

Excellent work, enjoyed that. No need to be disappointed, tweaking and tinkering is part of the process. There will never be a perfect system of ranking anyways. Cheers !

I find your ranking system quite close to my liking esp. that it puts someone like Graham Thorpe ahead of Gilly which I find plausible the way I used to be a fan of his unsung gritty batting which was pretty consistent, also the fact that there is very little margin between Smith and Tendulkar, which, I also believe in future would see Tendulkar back at number one when once Smith's form slumps inevitably like most batsmen at the end (there's also a big part of wishful thinking there)

The low margin is only due to longevity penalty which implicitly bakes in some form slump. I.e. Smith's form would have to TANK in order for him to go to #2. I think another couple years and smith for me is #1 (and #2 after bradman)
