Might as well call this the "how underrated was Greig actually" litmus test, as I hear it quite often on CW.

I'm going to put my money where my mouth is and say he is actually underrated enough to be a slightly better allrounder than Dev. Batting Greig >>>Dev, and bowling Dev>>Greig, but I think the magnitude of the batting difference is actually more significant in this case to swing it in Greig's favor.

Yeah I'm not generally one for relying overly on longevity in comparisons between players who both have big sample sizes, but I think Kapil's body of work wins him this one, though Greig is definitely under rated in general. 58 tests seems a decent enough sample size I suppose, but Kapil playing over 130 and those over a much longer time frame than Greig's five years is a factor in this one, though not decisive on its own for me.

Okay, then forgetting about the longevity for a moment, how much better of a bowler is Dev than Greig in your mind? How much better of a bat than Dev is Greig?

Greig obviously more versatile, but Kapil labored on some pretty dead decks for a lot of his career, so I'd have him a fair way ahead. Then again, Greig batted a lot in England on decks which were probably livelier. Then again, they both averaged pretty similar in Blighty. It's not an outrageous comparison between them but I think Kapil's bowling overall was further in front of Greig's than Greig's batting was of Kapil's.
