I am not comfortable writing off the entire cheating episodes on the disgusting behaviour from the RSA crowds. For starters, I think it was obvious they had been doing some form of this for a while, and as you yourself pointed out, they had been appointing someone to do the sledging each series etc. For me, quite a lot of this would have happened regardless. Anyways, its all done and dusted now and no point in arguing about it. So that's my two cents. I am out.
I'm not saying it made what happened inevitable; unfortunately many, many cricketers have copped vile personal abuse from away crowds over the years. Not many have taken that as a green light to try to use sandpaper on a cricket ball (and rope in a newbie to the team to do so no less). But it does give context to what Warner's headspace was like; even if they had been tampering with the ball before, that's actually not especially remarkable as far as international cricket goes. What was remarkable was how brazen it was, and that's actually what prompted so much outrage.
