The legacy of Chris Cairns

bagapath

International Captain
if that is the case, doesn't tarnish his legacy at all imo
it absolutely does, even if one had only fixed a backyard game. you keep any sporting encounter absolutely clean of corruption or it is tarnished irreversibly. no third option.

Flintoff at his peak was a better batsman and bowler, but he had a lot of mediocrity outside it. Cairns maintained a decent standard more-or-less throughout his career.
No version of Flintoff was a better Test batsman than Cairns circa 1998-2004, even if he did embarrass you guys in 2005.

Flintoff's peak bowling you possibly have an argument.

He broke the glass ceiling for Bits and pieces cricketers like Jacob Oram and Ravi Bopara

Was there ever a time where Flintoff turned looking dangerous into genuine results with the ball? Cos Cairns definitely took bags of wickets at times.

flintoff retired at 31

he could have become a legend if he had had a full career or at least another 5 years like everyone else

That thing about Cairns maintaining a decent standard is laughable lol. It’s just another way he is comparable to Flintoff. He spent almost a decade being a mega-talented disappointment before a relatively brief period of delivering on the talent.

Is Flintoff the modern Sobers of bowling? Only guys to take 2.something wickets a test at an average of heaps and everyone reckons they were gun

Cairns took 19 wickets at 21 vs England in 1999, and that was just a relatively high profile series as opposed to a particularly prolific one

Anyway this probably isn’t the right thread to accurately dunk on Sobers’ bowling or Flintoff’s aSheS.

Seriously hope Cairns pulls through. Major childhood hero.
