Surprisingly, 2 of the greatest 5 ever WC allrounders are S.Waugh and Yuvraj Singh

Klusener is always an interesting one... single best performance from a player ever seen across a WC. That SA side was highly rated but if you look at the SA performances as a team, should not even have been in the semi except for Kluseners unbelievable form.

Some great discussion here but what beats me is that none of the stats have batting strike rate and bowling economy rate. Any discussion on ODIs definitely need these 2 metrics to bring the value of the players to the right perspective.

They both only played in the '99 WC but Neil Johnson and Robin Singh returned decent stuff and are fairly forgotton

Johnson 367 runs @ 52 and 12 wickets @ 19

Singh 157 @ 31 and 8 wickets @ 19
Neil Johnson was unlucky as **** to have to play the same WC as Klusener. Any other time he'd be a serious contender for MOTC.

Whatever it takes!!!
Its harder to bring it into the picture unless you just want to create a random cut off of SR of 90 and ER of less than 5 or something.

Here are players with >500 runs and >20 wickets across world cups:

PlayerMatRunsHSBat AvWktsBBIBowl AvAve Diff
Yuvraj Singh (INDIA)2373811352.71205/3123.129.61

ST Jayasuriya (SL)38116512034.26273/1239.25-4.99

Probably cut-offs are bit stiff given Klusener doesn't make it, but I just doubled cut-offs in the previous table for a single world cup.
Among the below players, if we apply equal weightage to average and strike rate, we get the below order.

Waugh's strike rate quite good for the era. He was not much of a striker generally but did lift his scoring rates in world cups.

On the other hand Yuvraj's bowling average is astonishing. And I do recall in 2011 he was routinely picking wickets proper batsmen too.

It's pretty amazing that Steve Waugh ended up having as good of an economy as he did given he was a death bowler when he bowled.

Having said that, he benefited greatly by bowling mostly early in his career when strike rates were lower across the board.

Still, Waugh won two world cups - one off the back of his bowling and the other his batting. Nobody else has ever done that afaik. Though tbf only Australian or West Indian cricketers could have done so.

His 175 off 138 balls (SR 126.81) v Zimbabwe in 83 would have been a big factor then throw in lots of cameos.
True, but that was an ATG innings - India were what? 17/5 or something when he came out. And he does have 650+ total runs - still pretty amazing for a time when 70 was a great SR.

Yeah that was an amazing world cup from one of the great all rounders. Hard to believe that India are only just now finding better fast bowlers than him.

Yep, and to think that India only won that match by some 30 runs(needed Kapil to bowl well as well). Zimbabwe had beaten Australia in that WC hence were hardly push overs.

That 175 has to be one of the most influential innings ever in ODIs.
