Wagner, and I don't think Wagner is that good. Starc has been crap for a bit now
Probably tbh but surely they should have noticed that Starc was totally cooked after Sydney already. He wasn't great there and he only regressed as he got more tired. A shell of a player by the end.How unfit was Pattinson this last month? Was that why Starc played all 4 tests.
gee i completely forgot that, and i am/was firmly of the opinion you can't just drop 150kph left arm swing. australia has quality depth but it's not that good. 4th option pattinson isn't the player he was 10 years ago.I still think Starc is a pretty good Test bowler and, when not completely cooked, a real asset to this side. But, y'know, it says something that he played one out of the five Tests in England -- the series that they clearly decided to plan down to the letter.
It was Andre Adams. Starc should’ve reached into his coach’s old playbook and brought out the double bouncer when things started going awry.gee i completely forgot that, and i am/was firmly of the opinion you can't just drop 150kph left arm swing. australia has quality depth but it's not that good. 4th option pattinson isn't the player he was 10 years ago.
starc mentioned before last summer he'd done some work with a coach and credited him for fixing him up. he should probs go find that dude again because starc was goooood.

Perhaps he oughtn't. During the Perth test against NZ (or perhaps the Adelaide one against Pakistan, it was a D/Ner), I noticed Starc bowling an outswinger (to the right-hander) and thought it might perhaps be some reverse-swing (or the commentators may have said so). Come the series just concluded, and he was consistantly swinging the new ball out* when he'd always swung it in before. In Sydney, when he finally began to actually bowl well in the final session, I'm pretty sure those also swung out. Whilst he seemed to have trouble landing the yorker for some time before, I doubt that helps. He also seemed to be bowling slower that season and was IMO definitely down on pace this series. So perhaps he fixed he rhythm—which tbf is important—but he seems to have lost venom as a consequence.gee i completely forgot that, and i am/was firmly of the opinion you can't just drop 150kph left arm swing. australia has quality depth but it's not that good. 4th option pattinson isn't the player he was 10 years ago.

Only tangentally relevant, but it astounds me people still think dropping Starc for Peter Siddle at the Oval was the right call. If it was Patto coming in, sure, but no way in a million years was Siddle the answerI still think Starc is a pretty good Test bowler and, when not completely cooked, a real asset to this side. That and bowling first probably the difference between 2-2 and 3-1Only tangentally relevant, but it astounds me people still think dropping Starc for Peter Siddle at the Oval was the right call. If it was Patto coming in, sure, but no way in a million years was Siddle the answer

Or Lyon fumble. Or ump getting a plumb lbw right. Or an extra review. Or probably 100 other things. That and bowling first probably the difference between 2-2 and 3-1
Tim Paine single handedly made sure Aust doesn't qualify in to WTC the finalsOr Lyon fumble. Or ump getting a plumb lbw right. Or an extra review. Or probably 100 other things.
yeah I realise this is a 5 month old post
Eh I make a distinction between split second errors in skill that can happen to anyone at any time and just flat out bad decisions made with plenty of time to think about it and the obviously correct decision staring you in the face.Or Lyon fumble. Or ump getting a plumb lbw right. Or an extra review. Or probably 100 other things.
