Looking at the squads can see plenty of talent sitting around SA. It would be nice to see the Knights and Warriors do well this season, just to show case some of the talent sitting in those squads.

In the second division a few names pop. Particularly I note Marco Marais and Mangaliso Mosehle not making div 1 teams. Of the youngsters around 2nd div, hopefully Jean du Plessis and Jade de Klerk have a good season and can find themselves in div 1. And who the hell decided that the "Garden Route Badgers" was a good name...

Marco Marias absolutely smoked them over in the UK for Lewdown for a period. Great to see his name still kicking around.

Most excited to see how Mpongwana. Beyers Swanepoel & Codi Yusuf (who was remarkably effective for a seamer of his frame) fare... And if E Can't find any schedules. I really hope (but don't expect) they cancel one of the other T20 competitions because 3 would be a cruel joke.

Where are Rilee Rossouw & Kyle Abbott all of a sudden BTW?

Isn't rilee contracted per comp for the knights and not fultime?

Believe after this season relegation/promotion happens so some teams will be under big pressure.

Career Franchise / Div 1 averages for all squads... Boland (Rocks), NW (Dragons), and Free State (Knights) look to have very little squad depth. KZN may be the surprise package, if they can stop all their matches getting rained on...

How much better would that FS batting line-up be if you add Gouws & or Du Plooy. Frustrating player depth to lose.

Some exciting back up players on show in the first two rounds of fixtures... Brevis, Brand, Ferreira & Galiem for Titans; Roelofsen, Simelane, EBosch, Baartman for Dolphins. Lions with Evan Jones in his first division debut, Yusuf and Bokako; North-west have gone back to DJansen, Potgieter had a good performance with the ball and Wes Marshall, who on talent should be pushing for the Proteas, did a peak Wes Marshall and slammed the ball straight at someone's throat...

If Muthusamy really went unsigned in the sa ipl draft it shows how ignorant those bidding are...

Tbf his t20 batting stats are horrid in terms of strikerate. An analyst looking at a strikerate of 110 isn't going to recommend him.
Was last night an exception to how he normally plays or can he do does more consistently?

Bahseph

State Captain
He is a pretty valuable pick imo. Generally if the NW Dragons do well he is involved some how. But I think the auction was mostly stats based so his early career T20 batting stats don't play in his favour at all.

At work (then cricket practice) so missing a lot of matches, but excited to see how Hermann and BSwanepoel do in their first games for Warriors today! Also excited to see if van Tonder can figure out limited overs cricket this season and how Pretorius & Coetzee push for selection...

Even as a bowler he's one of our most skilled, and he's been finishing well for the last two three years. If you're basing big money decisions on analysing stats instead of actually watching players play, you're going to come acropper...
A lot of modern player acquisition is stats based whether cricket or football. Sure you might miss the odd one. But numbers in most cases don't lie.

Yes, they definitely do, unless you believe e.g. Fojela is one of the best South African FC bowlers of the 21st century... https://www.espncricinfo.com/player/phaphama-fojela-45206 . Plenty of players with stats with huge caveats. Even look at vd Dussen, especially his List A strike rate... 10 lower than ODI, because for the first 10 years of his career it hovered around 70 (T20 is more reliable because for a lot of that period he wasn't even selected for domestic T20s)
