Should the Ashes be downgraded to a 3 match series?

Yeah. Let's give NZ 5 test series everywhere so they can no longer fluke series wins with a single effort.

Make them test their depth of players or suffer over penalties from tired bowlers. **** ****s always play perfectly fresh because they only ever play two tests at most before a half year to recuperate.
I refer you to TJB

Who is this thread even aimed at? The reason NZ don't play more Tests is . . . NZ. It's not somehow England or Australia's fault
Maybe England and Australia should schedule less tests so they can also be perfectly fresh. That's not New Zealand's fault

Every Test series should be at least 3 games. I'm a big fan of 4 and 5 Test series in general, and if boards can afford it then by all means please do it. But 2 Test series are nonsense.
Unfortunately boards want money, not competition. Real shame.

What I'd like to see is a 2 x 3 test series home series per summer, per team. Make it spicy by having the two touring teams in at the same time and playing a triangular tournament so we can see how teams go on neutral territory in interesting conditions, and while the away teams play a match the home team gets to rest their players so they don't get burnt out.

Mmm because aus and eng never rest their players during endless odi series, while smaller nations go in full strength whenever they can.

This would be great. It would also make neutral venue a serious stat to create more opportunities for sifting.

Each major team should play three 4-5 test series a year (and maybe a few one-off tests against Zim/Ire/Afg)
Plenty of T20s(easy money) and Tests(pure cricket). ODIs should be limited to ICC events. Also, minnows should have a combined XI, I know this sounds very hard to manage but one good test team of 4/5 minnows is better for test cricket than one-sided minnow bashings. This would be good exposure for key players in lesser ranked teams.

NZ’s 2 test series can result in fluke series draws and stuff like with Bangladesh. Can be advantageous too ofc.

If England did that they’d have come away with a draw in India. India would’ve drawn in SA and England ‘18 etc.

2 test series suck.

It also prevents learning opportunities. 3-5 tests might hurt more short term, but teams rocking up to say India with no practice match for two games does not benefit long term improvement. NZ can play attrition wars on a slow mudheap and be skittled on a viper, who would have guessed?

Honestly believe it would be better for world cricket if the Ashes wasn't the be all and end all of it. The English and Australian media never stop talking about the bloody Ashes. Would probably be better for the players too.
It's the rivalry. India should play Pakistan and burn their own cricket memorabilia and I'm sure it might quickly take centre stage.

Clearly Australia, England and India should be taxed more by the ICC to accommodate the poorer nations who somehow outperform the richer ones by winning maces, beating the team with the mace etc.
ok this is true though the pig three should pay for tests in smaller nations to sustain them and ensure every team gets consistent cricket because that's the only way the really small teams can get consistently better, by playing a lot of highlevel cricket
