Rate these players out of 10 in tests solely?

You could do it like the Mohs scale. The difference in hardness between Diamond (10) and Corundum (9) is much greater than that between all the other minerals.

So the best players after Bradman get nine, and you simply need to remember how big the gap is.
This is possibly the most Cricketweb post ever.

de Villiers is such a gifted player! Pity we didn't get to see the best of him. Would have loved to see him in Australia and England.

nobody who makes it to tests should really get 3 or under
Mitch Marsh?

This really goes without saying. Otherwise if Bradman is 10 then no one else would get above 5.

Bradman is a 7.

Maybe if he worked out a bit and did his hair in a stylish manner he'd be an 8 or a 9

Cook is a strange one. He is so unwatchable he fills out the bars and is not naturally talented yet by stripping away his strokeplay to two-three shorts, and for attritional perseverance alone, he has sort of budged his way among the greats. He has found something which works for him and sticks to it. But jesus, a Cook innings is dull. Cook, Strauss and Trott!! England bored oppositions to death during that era.

Fills out the bars is now a defunct saying considering you can watch cricket in bars.
