The idea is simple, excluding Lara and Tendulkar, what would be your top 10 bats from the list below of those who made merry in the 2000 to early 2010s batting bonanza era.

Dravid
Sehwag
Sanga
Jayawardene
Younis
Yousuf
Inzi
Andy Flower
Ponting
Hayden
Hussey
Clarke
Amla
Kallis
ABDevilliers
Graeme Smith
Chanderpaul
KP

Flower only played 24 tests in the 2000s. I’ll rank them as bats overall career wise rather than looking exclusively at periods as some of them played only in 2000s and almost all of them played mostly in the 21st century except him. Might try and look exclusively at their 21st century production only later.

Ponting
Kallis
Sanga
Dravid
ABD
Chanderpaul
Khan
Inzamam
Flower
Amla
Smith
Hayden
KP
Sehwag
Clarke
Yousuf
Hussey
Jayawardene

A few of them I’m not 100% on.

AB is way too high - only averaged 43 from 2004-09.

In contrast Smith opening averaged 49.6 from 2002-09.

I'd have Hayden and Sehwag higher too.

Yeah tbh it’s just a ranking of overall careers. I will look at 2000s for each player and make that list tomorrow.

Highest averages 2000-09 (minimum 4000 runs):

(In descending order - highest 1st)
58-59 Kallis, Moyo, Ponting
55-56 Inzy, Jayawardene, Sanga
54-55 Dravid, Lara
53 SRT
52-53 Hayden, Sehwag, Chanderpaul
50 Younis Khan
49-50 KP, VVS, Smith
48-49 Langer, Martyn
46 -47 Gilchrist

I wouldn't consider anyone else.

Ignoring Tendulkar and Lara I'd go:
Ponting
Sanga/Kallis
Inzy/Dravid
Hayden/Sehwag/Smith
Younis Khan
Moyo/Jayawardene/Chanderpaul
KP/Gilchrist
Langer
VVS/Martyn (these two were the best to watch though)

If dropped to 3,000 runs you can also include:

Thorpe 3145 @ 53.3
Hussey 3638 @ 52
Samaweera 3938 @ 51.1
Kirsten 3497 @ 50
Clarke 3926 @ 49.7
Prince 3137 @ 45.5

Katich, Strauss, Gibbs, Trescothick, AB, Collingwood, Cook all averaged 43-45

Hey, do one bit at a time. One angry react for Kallis over Ponting and leaving out YK seems insufficient.
