a big effort boys and one to be really proud of. despite the loss it was a pretty high paced and quality game and we really did match it with the tough opposition

They were christened "Dad's Army", and it appears that age and 4 consecutive hard-fought games have caught up with Jamie Lyon's Invitational XIII as they were outpaced and outperformed by an energetic, young Crusaders side, especially in the backs.

However, the game started with an early try for Dad's Army, as Blacklock used his experience and pace to slide past young Patrick and go over in the corner, with Jamie Lyon converting to make it 6-0. But the Crusaders showed how hungry when FuiFui MoiMoi brought the ball up for the second tackle after the restart and was met by a hit from little scrum half Crampton delivered with such ferocity that MoiMoi spilled the ball. From the resulting set, Patrick received a chance to gain his early revenge on Blacklock and he duly wriggled free and set off down the touchline before, Wide to West style, tossing it inside to the captain and second rower, who bombed his way over. Brumby's effort, followed by Fuller's cool convertion, cancelled out JLI's lead within two minutes. The Crusaders still haven't managed to eradicate their over-aggression problem, and a penalty for dangerous tackle, which was put on report, allowed Lyon to regain the lead for his side. However, the lead was soon regained when quick hands through the backs led to an opportunity for McNamara to stab a kick in goal for Patrick to punce on and get a try of his own.
The game remained close until the 21st minute, when whistle happy ref Ashley Kline rather harshly sin binned Tommy Martyn for stealing the ball and, in the very next set, rightly penalised the JLI for the same offence. Sean Fuller had no problems when getting the two points. Soon insult was added to injury when the short handed Dad's Army struggled to deal with the Crusaders' pace and Fuller burst over, then converted to build a 10 point lead. Missing Martyn's creative genius and extra pair of legs in defence, the JLI started flagging and by the time he returned to the fray the damage had been done.

The Crusaders started the second half brightly, and Mørk's try in the corner looked the final nail in the coffin for Dad's Army, who looked totally demoralised after this. Even when Rose and Mamesh managed to get themselves sin binned within 2 minutes of each other, the influential Brumby brought himself back on from his well deserved rest, and not only did the 11 remaining Crusaders weather what was more a spot of drizzle than a storm, but they actually increased their lead when hooker Sriram Gurunathan picked a way through. Just after the hour, Rob Malone capped off a very good first appearance with a try. He may be crucial this year as, in their first game with a proper loose forward, the Crusaders looked alot better balanced. However, Malone's stellar debut was tarnished somewhat by a sinbinning for the last 10 minutes of the match for a high shot on Blacklock. This mattered not a jot to the remaining Crusaders, who were on a roll. Mørk and Borcich combined to score another try with less than 5 minutes left and Fuller's convertion meant CW had scored 32 unanswered points. Bryan Fletcher finally scored a late consolation for the Lyons with the last play of the game, but ultimately the Crusaders coasted it.

Great work by the boys. Bit worried about the number of sin-binnings, but it really was a much improved effort from the boys.

Standings after 5 games

CW Scorpions - CW Crusaders

Right. It's a day late (as neither me nor Kenny cba witing it up), but i'd better put it up as final is tomorrow.
The maths is simple:
If Crusaders win or draw, the final is Crusaders - JLI
If Scorpions win by less than 33, it's an all CW final
If the Scorpions win by more than 33, it's a Scorpions - JLI final

Have fun with this.
