Ian Markus, who was penalised and later reported for fighting in the Scorpions V Jamie Lyon game, was cleared of striking charges. The IRL board issued this statement:

"Upon viewing the video footage of the incident, no action will be taken against Ian Markus. His actions were rather justified, as Brian Fletcher was not playing at the ball, he was in fact, playing at the balls."

Sloppy play by Jamie Lyons Invitational XIII
Ellery Hanley knocks-on
SCRUM: Ball to CW Scorpions
Hanley is going to be in a world of pain tomorrow, his skills will clearly have gone off the ball with his dabbling in yawnian, and if i get off the bench i'll be making sure he's on the receiving end of some massive hits
Hanley you cacked yourself

So proud of the whole squad to get this great result (even Reubs, Andrew and Jellett who done a super job on the bottles), hopefully we can build on this result and finish the rest of the pre season undefeated.

For the remaining game vice captain Ian Markus will be taking control of the last two games as i will be sitting them out/abusing Jamie Lyon from the stands.

Two tries in the last five minutes stole Jamie Lyon's Invitational XIII an unlikely victory. Tommy Martyn's sidestep making Dave Richards look like an idiot, run and pass to put fullback Shaun Briscoe over in the corner just seconds after Jamie Lyon grounded Chris Thorman's grubber broke the CW fans' hearts and snatched the win from the more deserving team's grasp. Indeed, despite going 2-0 down after being caught offside just a minute into the the match, the Scorpions had bossed most of the game.
After a slightly slow first 7 or 8 minutes, the Scorpions burst into life, helped by a little wake up call when the video referee had to deny Steve Renouf a try. In the 12th minute, big prop Richards forced his way over on the last tackle, but was held up. Within the next 5 minutes, "Dad's Army" were saved twice by knock ons from Wright and Dobson when, had the ball not been spilled, certain tries were on. On 18 minutes, however, the Scorpions were finally rewarded, when giant forward Chris Butler powered his way through his opposite number Danny Ward and held off Briscoe's last ditch attempt to stop him to give his team the lead. Kenny Dobson slotted the convertion a cool as you like. From then on, the CW team had complete control, but a silly penalty allowed Lyon to score his second penalty and bring it back to 6-4 followed by Lyon being allowed to equalise when Stephen Burke was penalised for a head high tackle on FuiFui MoiMoi. The Scorpions retorted in the best way possible, but the Video Ref said Markus had lost control of the ball. A Kenny Dobson penalty just before half time gave the Scorpions a deserved lead at the break.

The NRL newcomers looked to start the second half in the same fashion, but soon after losing Andrew Garven to injury, Robertinho Dela Cruz knocked on to give JLI the ball just 16 metres from the Scorpions' line and young Wigan forward Lee Jewitt managed to capitalise to regain the lead for the Invitationals. From that point the JLI had the upper hand, but the Scorpions held firm, putting their bodies on the line to stop the Invitationals with the consequence being that Weber, Wright and Burke picked up knocks. The Scorpions managed to see off the worst of it and eventually started winning the arm-wrestle that had settled in in the second half. In the 68th minute, Darren Murphy broke the stalemate and Kenny Dobson gave the Scorpions a two point lead, then shortly afterwards captain Ian Markus added an extra 4 points and, although Kenny Dobson missed the convertion, he made up for it in the 73rd minute with another penalty goal to make the lead 8, and with the CW forwards well on top, the game looked over. However, when Richards' excitement at forcing Ellery Hanley back into his own 20 metres got the better of him and he got in the way of Hanley's play the ball, two kicks from Thorman changed the game. His huge kick found touch inside the Scorpions' 20 metres with a kick from within his 20 metres and 5 tackles later, his "foot of God" dabbed a little 5 metre grubber into the in-goal which the ever dangerous Lyon pounced on. Then in the very next set, with less than 100 seconds left on the board, Martyn's neat footwork left Richards sprawling on the ground with his fists full of air and the rest, as they say, is history.

Very close one indeed there. Hopefully we scorpions can get up next time. Good to sea close competition but, with nice tight games.

too many errors this time, at least we kept the penalties to a reasonable ammount...

Good to see the Scorpions playing well even if we aren't winning every game, everyone is putting in good performances.

Personally. 3 games = 3 injuries. :@
