Right, so that was a pretty embarrassing outing and we must now look forwards. The Quaid e Azam Trophy had a pretty successful season under the new format with a tied final to fittingly finish things off. The major find of the season was Kamran Ghulam who broke a 34 year old record for most runs in a season with 1249 runs in 11 games with 5 tons. Surely a breakout season if there ever was one. He usually bats at #3 where Azhar Ali has performed rather well so there's no replacing him. I'd bump him up to opener again and bring in Ghulam at #3. Haris Sohail goes out for Babar Azam obviously and Naseem Shah is clearly not test standard yet. With 47 wickets in 9 games at 20 Hassan Ali would be my replacement, although apparently he's copped another injury. Think it's time to move past Yasir Shah, at least outside Asia too. At home we'll be playing 2 spinners anyway. Not sure about domestic spinners but they've gone with Zafar Gohar so I'd stick with him or Shadab Khan at #7. Giving us:

Azhar Ali
Abid Ali
Kamran Ghulam
Babar Azam
Fawad Alam
Mohammad Rizwan
Faheem Ashraf/Shadab Khan
Hassan Ali
Yasir Shah/Zafar Gohar(?)
Mohammad Abbas
Shaheen Shah

I'm not really sure what to do with the bowling, really. Abbas has fallen off a cliff but there's no replacement for a bowler of his class when he's at his best. Think PCB really ****ed up his recovery. Azhar Ali reportedly had issues with his elbow too when he was in that extended slump and the PCB doctors had no idea what to do. Some guy in UAE apparently got him better. If true, that's ****ed. Shaheen shows enough promise but 600+ is an indictment on any attack. This thread doesn't get much traction so I'd be happy with what @Prince EWS thinks.

id be saying to ghulam 'do it again' and put him in the A team before shuffling azhar (again) to accommodate him.

abbas looks toasted tbh. he should be doing better in nz.

yasir's all good.

i'd recall hasan ali. i was disappointed when he couldn't hold his spot. he's a good bowler.

Shan Masood needs to go. 4 ducks in his last 8 innings. So there's a void at the top of the order. Azhar Ali ain't going anywhere. He's probably in the same boat as Ross Taylor right now.
The guys who have put their hand up for selection (Saud Shakeel, Kamran Ghulam, Usman Salahuddin) are all middle order batsmen as far as I know.

Just remembered Imam Ul Haq exists so he should come in for Shan.

Hassan Ali coming back in is a no brainer now but his injuries are concerning.

Domestic spinners are hard to judge for me. He's 32 though. Not sure what Bilal Asif has been up to either. Yasir at home is still fine I guess.

Imran Butt, Mir Hamza, Amir Yamin and Junaid Khan are of the guys who've been ****ed with by the selectors. Yamin did pretty well in NZ last time and then disappeared off the face of the earth. Junaid Khan especially hard done by. Waqar needs to **** off.

Whatever it takes!!!
Faheem, Rizwan, Shadab (and hopefully Haris if he can figure out how to make runs overseas) is a good 5-8 for most conditions as long as you have good specialists around them.

Fast bowler Hasan Ali with a 60-ball 100 in the Quaid E Azam trophy final. Hit it in the 4th innings chasing 350 odd. The match ends up being a tie

Never change Pakistan cricket. Never change.

Kamran Ghulam scored runs against B class bowling attack. (Our top 35 players were in NZ with National & A team)

I think we should build a side for next decade. So, NO 30yo players (except Fawad)

Imam
Haider Ali (scored 645 runs @49.61 & S.R 57.95 in 7 matches of QeA Trophy 2019). He should get a chance later this month on Home Soil vs Saffers
Saud Shakeel / Imran Butt
Babar
Fawad
Rizwan
Faheem / Shadab
Shaheen
Hasan
Usman Qadir / Yasir Shah / Zafar Gohar
Nasim / Musa / Hasnain / Irfanullah Shah (has best FC Avg. among active pacers of Pak)

These Rockies will at least play better than non-performing seniors. This side will play with Flair & Spark.

If you're only allowed one 30+ player (which is a silly rule to begin with), I still think Azhar is a fair bit better than Fawad. The fact that he bats higher helps too -- Test teams that aren't Pakistan don't usually debut their promising young middle order bats at 3 or 4. If you want to blood youth then having Azhar at three helps I think.

Neither Nadir nor Musa are anywhere near test standard, indeed they're not even first class standard.

There needs to be a total overhaul in thinking, focusing on proven first class performers (easier with the bowling now the pitches are no longer greener) rather than the next wunderkind fast bowler or the same failures being recalled again and again. The aversion to picking people (probably) in their mid-late 20s needs to stop.

yea you'd think they'd learn something from misbah ul-haq and mohammad abbas. old pros can win lots of games.

i'd stick with abid ali because i think there's something there but shan masood needs to go. azhar, babar and fawad pick themselves then rizwan and faheem. yasir and zafar gohar at home with shaheen and abbas. away from home i don't know enough to pick a 3rd quick except naseem needs to return to his old style and sohail khan is not your guy.

edit - hasan ali, duh phlegm. if he's back in form, get him in the squad.

Misbah is part of the problem, he's why you see guys like Sohail being dredged up. Waqar ain't much chop as bowling coach either, with the changes to Naseem's run.

Abbas is doubtful with the way he's been bowling recently.

They are not going anywhere though. The entire thing is a bit of a nexus. Imran - Wasim - Inzy - Misbah - Waqar. There is another group that are being routinely ignored. The Wasim Akram-Miandad group.

i meant as players not coaches.

and abbas might be toasted post-injury but he got them a lot of success beforehand. my point is i agree, they shouldn't feel the need to pick kids without fc wickets.
