Interesting looking down those stats, the likes of Hazlewood, Atkinson, Henry and Rabada have all had a very strong 2 years but not played as many Tests as the top few (Bumrah's top no matter what).

No surprise to see Root Number 1 in runs, he plays the most Tests and he's basically the best batsman at the mo too. Surprised at how low Head's average is, a remarkably similar record to Crawley's!!

Head has been garbage for the whole time barring a couple of good innings. Tbf they were very good match winning knocks though

One of the unique things about the WTC is that test sides have the possibility of playing each other at a neutral venue, which just doesn't happen all that much in Test Cricket.

The last Lord's Test match between Australia and South Africa was in 1912 !

Supposedly after we finally beat England in 1906 we demanded a bigger say in the cricketing landscape. Only 3 of us of course.

Abe Bailey ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abe_Bailey ) said : "Inter-rivalry within the Empire cannot fail to draw together in closer friendly interest all those many thousands of our kinsmen who regard cricket as our national sport, while secondly it would probably give a direct stimulus to amateurism."

The MCC liked the idea of Bailey driving this Tri test series but it kept being postponed until it was eventually going to happen in 1912 (by that time SA had lost a lot of their 1906-team & were crap again and there was a lot of in fighting). Hence The Tri-Series never happened again.

Went into that 1912 Lord's Test with 2 leg spinners (Aubrey Faulkner, Reggie Schwarz ) , a left arm wrist spinner (Charlie Llewellyn) and an off spinner (Sydney Pegler) .

Think our tactics will be a little different this time I reckon!

Sa test team is kind of untested in test, they have faced only weak teams on the contrary Australians have grinded themselves in the test.

Khawaja quotes are everywhere saying sometimes players have to bat where best for the team and that Labuschagne will do well at opener 😀

Bahseph

International Debutant
Wiaan (YJK) Mulder at 3. Just hope he is a positive at the crease like in Bangers.

Not going to say I fully understand this since he doesn’t do it domestically and only did it against SL because he broke a finger and had to bat the same day or play no further part in the test.

I don't think we have a 3. It allows Bavuma 4 and Stubbs 5

It's where he batted U19s but it's a call that could be a great surprise or just fail.

Bavuma on Mulder at 3 "I think Mulder is quite young in that position, but I think having played with him and seen the way he has grown in the last 2 years in the red-ball format, it is about giving him a lot more confidence and keep backing him and allow him to do what he does best He has an opportunity in a pressure situation, but he can take comfort from the fact that the guys are backing him and that we just want him to go out and play his game"

Bavuma on the Ngidi selection over Paterson "Probably one of the tougher decisions to have been made. It was more from a tactical point of view. Probably a little bit more pace from Lungi. He is taller as well. Lungs also has a good record, not to take anything away from Patto He will complement the attack a little bit more. We have a guy like Mulder who is similar to what Patto can do"

Marnus to open with Green confirmed at 3. Not terrible I guess compared to some other formations flying around but could be 2 down in no time

It's a big risk , Mulder hasn't scored any runs at no.3 in his career but I guess the same can be said of Cameron Green who will bat there in the final for the Aussies..

I will say I'm kinda disappointed that Bedingham didn't get the batting promotion to No.3. He has a lot of experience in English conditions, and he did promote himself up the order against Pakistan in our last test match. No.6 feels a bit too low for him considering his reputation as a run machine in these parts.
