Note Qeshile and van Tonder does not appear to be playing this round? Unsure about why?
I think Qeshile has form problems and not getting selected at the moment. But van Tonder apparently had to pull out morning of the game due to covid contact.

Ackerman is turning into a nice player, and I would like to give him a shot. I do think van Tonder needs to be the next in line. He was highest run scorer for previous two seasons and is probably the biggest talent in SA at the moment. I would love to give Hamza a shot as well and think he was treated terribly but I also dont want selectors picking based on a conveyor belt line. If they can bring in Jansen they can do it for the batsmen and picked with greatest potential. It would a very different scenario if we had a settled line-up, but we are building from scratch. Breetzke is another than is starting to perform.

If nothing else they should be brave and pick youngsters for the LO side.
What do you think of when Aus pick people like Michael Hussey at age 30 to debut in tests?

I think that people miss-understood what happened back when Aus had a settled atg team, and where looking for somebody to just contribute. Look at their selection policy now when they still trying to put together a team. Green has been picked at 22, and has now been given 8 tests on a trot at home. We picked Mulder at 22, and he has got 7 tests during various different series over the last two years. Has no idea what his role is and keeps getting dropped unnecessarily.

Selection is not a one idea fits all scenarios. We are rebuilding, picking batsmen that are going to be looking at retiring in 3/4 years time after having toured the world once, at best, does not build a team. Picking talented youngsters now that in 8 years will be on second or 3rd tours of the cricketing world is going to likely build into a far better quality team. And make sure you have a proper succession plan in place for the next 6/8 years time so you don't end up in the same mess as now.

Hussey couldn't get into the Australian team for so long because there wasn't an opening for him. We've had enough gaps in our lineup over the years that any player over 30 who hasn't yet been tried usually wasn't tried for one very good reason - they're not good enough.

You might occasionally get lucky with someone like Van Der Dussen who has been excellent in the shorter formats (but only the shorter formats), but he's very much the exception. We're just not sitting with worldbeaters who have spent years toiling in domestic cricket because ATGs were keeping them out of the side.

Personally I think age is a number depends on the player, wether he is 18 or 32 max as long as he can provide atleast 4 years plus , minimum to the side as test cricket isnt a developement thing and also guys groomed to step in straight away.

Have you guys been keeping up with the Domestic T20? Been a nice look at certain players who might have some Protea ambitions.

Been watching. Knights have been very disappointing.
Riley Rossouw missing making a big difference. The only difference last time to this team when they won, also the sa players available last time there was a bigger squad for the stricter bubbles so alot less proteas played, also more kolpaks back like wp have vilas and levi etc.

Sa definitely look like only 5 or 6 teams worth of depth unless they push these sa u19s through but not many look ready. Also possibly the coaching as look how north west are doing, donald doesn't have a lot to play with though look at lions team missing their proteas probably still stronger on paper than free state.

Anyone following the b league teams, there a few guys who should be playing a league like Leus du plooy for example.

Even without rossouw a batting lineup of kruger, van tonder, snyman, pite and behardien should put up better scores. They have been woeful.

Phehlukwayo with his first century in any format. There's been a number of centurions in this latest round of 4-day matches, including Keegan Petersen and Jonathan Bird, with 5-wicket hauls for George Linde and Delano Potgieter.

Just watched Mulder score a very good century for the Lions. Will definitely aid him if he bats up the order domestically.
He should be playing all formats domestically as much as possible and test team hasn't shown enough in other 2 formats yet,
would like him to bat top 5 in 4 dayers and play as much as possible also, he has hardly played domestic due to int call ups and injuries, his bowling is fine, need more of those 100s.
