Akhtar and Asif would make it a formidable line up IMO but how likely is that attack to happen?
Asif will be in team for long time, Akhtar will either make return for only a short period or he will lose his way forever if he act stupidly again.

If Akhar gets out of team then Asif can replace Tanvir.I personally prefer Gul and Anjum over Asif in Onedayers.

Tanvir has a weird action but I can see him getting exposed a little in the longer shorter version of the game. ;)

Rehman and Afridi have been playing well lately and are probably quite underrated. Gul is a gun half the time while the other half he gets hit.

Never rated Ifikhar but he's being proving me wrong.

It's still not the best attack in the world by a long way, not even the best Pakistan could be fielding IMO.
Well, if Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif were available then it would have been interesting. I daresay Shoaib would come into the side for Sohail Tanvir and if Mohammad Asif could develop a few more variations he'd definitely be a better bowler than Rao Iftikhar Anjum. If Pakistan are looking for another all-rounder to fill the void left by Abdul Razzak's retirement then they need to look no futher than Yasir Arafat.

Yasir has always struggled whenever he has been given a chance in onedayer.I think for allrounder they have three candidates in Tanvir,Yasir and Fawad Alam. I would like to see Alam being given a chance in onedayer.

I meant for the bowling all-rounder to bat at #8, whereas I can see Fawad Alam as a middle order batsman who can bowl a few overs.

is easily the best team we can field in an ODI.

In Afridi/Gul/Asif/Akhtar/Arafat/Tanvir you have six different kind of bowlers. The batting line up is nothing to write home about but it'll have to do.

Unless the selectors want to introduce a few youngsters and get rid of people like Misbah/Arafar/Butt...

Why would you want Younis Khan to stay in the team? Also, Malik batting too low IMO. Should be at #3 or #4.

Because Younis is Pakistan's second best batsman - his problem has been the lack of a settled place in the batting order. With the departure of Inzamam, number four provides him with the opportunity to play his natural game.

Malik is perfect for the number five slot.

Unless Tanvir does something special with the bat, i can't see why he should be preferred over a vastly superior bowler in Anjum

there are chances that this team might not even play a full series. first i see a big problem with opening.. if pakistan want to solve their opening problems.. they have to look for spacialist batsmans.. first of all pakistan has to seriously think about kamran akmal's future... his keeping right now isn't even domestic level.. just recently he droped kailes in the first test match and he end up being the difference in the match... in upcoming tours like india if he repeats these mistakes... lets say if he drops catches from batsmans like sachin, dravid, ganguly.. it is like inviting defeat...or giving the match to india...
second as wicket keeper which is supposed to be his first priority Kamran isn't reliable,, how an he be reliable as an opening batsman? i think if pakistan is looking for a decent opener pair.. they have to try the pair of yasir hameed and salman butt for at least a series...this includes test matches and one day matches..
as far as shoaib's playing goes... there is posibilities that he might not play a full series of a tournment.. he is pron to injury more than any other fast bowler.. when selecting shoaib for test squad or even one dayers spacially for away tours.. pakistani selectors should consider about selecting a good substite for him also.... sami, rao, navid, and yasir arafat has already proved themselve that they aren't test level quality bowlers. their odi record might say different but it is time to bring someone new.. maybe giving youngsters a chance..

I expect SA to come back strongly in the fouth OD match and then to play the decider with teams being 2-All.Kallis has struggled so far and i expect him to fire in the fourth match. The wrong footer might getting a thrashing in fouth match that will led selectors to drop him from the final match to accomodate Akhtar

Pakistan in a very good position, I believe they dont have a problem in winning this series now . It will be a very interesting contest tomorrow as South Africa would be looking to bounce back and why is Mohammad Asif not playing? I thought he was ruled out for the first two matches only. He should have played the 3rd ODI.

I'd like for him to play the fourth ODI if hes fit. No point in wrapping him in cotton wool all the time. If the series is won after that then you can rest him again.

And which XI in the history of Pakistan has ever played a full series???

first i see a big problem with opening.. if pakistan want to solve their opening problems.. they have to look for spacialist batsmans
Both of the openers I listed are specialist batsmen.

. first of all pakistan has to seriously think about kamran akmal's future... his keeping right now isn't even domestic level..
Load of tosh. His keeping isn't significantly worse then it was when he begin. Also, I am sick of the hyperbole you seem to insert in every single sentence - have you ever actually seen the keeping in a domestic match live?

just recently he droped kailes in the first test match and he end up being the difference in the match...
Yup, he dropped a single catch. OMG. HOW DARE HE! Lets roast him on a spit and lynch him.

in upcoming tours like india if he repeats these mistakes... lets say if he drops catches from batsmans like sachin, dravid, ganguly.. it is like inviting defeat...or giving the match to india...
So you can come up with nothing better than ifs and buts. What if your precious Asif or Gul fail to perform and bowl like absolute morons? What if Younis and Yousuf gift their wickets away? What if Mount Vesuvius errupts and Karachi is wiped out in a tsunami triggered by an alien invasion? I mean, WHAT IF!!!!!!

second as wicket keeper which is supposed to be his first priority Kamran isn't reliable,,
A reiteration of your earlier point which has already been tackled.

how an he be reliable as an opening batsman?
Ah, I am impressed by the inductive logic at display here. I am glad that you were to prove a positive co-relation between batting and keeping abilities - a feat millions of people over dozens of years have failed at. Here's your Nobel Prize.

And so on....

Pretty much agree with that lineup. I can never figure out why the hell Yousuf won't play one down when he averages something amazing at that position.

In my opinion Afridi should open the Innings regularly bcoz there is no point in sending him lower down the order when the fate of the match is almost decided and if he gets going the pressure on middle order will be reduced to some extent.

The other thing is that people like Hafeez, Butt,....etc are not scoring any big scores on the top. They are just eating away too many balls and are getting dismissed when it is time to utilize the remaining power plays. This demands Yousuf and Younis to play two roles building the innings and looking for some boundaries in power plays which I think is not a very easy job to do regularly.
