Gavaskar basically becoming a tail ender when Lillee bowled is why he can't be rated in the truly top echelon of all time opening batsmen. Did well here on the 77-78 and 85-86 tours when we had joke attacks riven by WSC and Rebel Tour defections. I went from being a total non-believer to a big fan right after his first innings in South Africa. He only got around 30 off, but left the ball absolutely superbly against Steyn in the first session.

Well, not really. Say Australia bats in half of them, then you've got a whole heap of pre 1990 or so tests where teams would go all day and be 3/190 or 200 at stumps. Good knock though, the SMarsh fail notwithstanding.
